About the Author

Lois began her first Mandie story when she was only eleven years old. But eventually the manuscript was tucked away in a drawer and forgotten. Lois went on to attend Furman University and studied music for several years in New York City where she and her sister sang professionally. Some years ago, Lois was prompted to pull that old manuscript out and began to work on Mandie's story-of her childhood in the South at the turn of the century and her Cherokee heritage. The rest is history and now the MANDIE BOOKS series have sales nearing six million copies! Lois writes from her home in South Carolina. Enthusiastic young fans fill her mailbox with their insightful responses to her stories.

When her father dies Mandie is left with her unfeeling mother and cruel sister. Things don't get better when she is sent to a neighbor's farm two miles away to live. Mandie's two friends are Joe, an old schoolmate and great comfort, and Uncle Ned - her father's faithful Cherokee friend. Will she be able to run to safety with Uncle Ned? Will she finally get to know the truth about her family? Where does the secret tunnel lead to? Does God still love her? This book teaches important life lessons. Why does God take our loved ones? Is it because we did something wrong? Will God love us after this? Can we trust God fully? The whole focus isn't so much on God, but He is certainly very important. Mandie and the Secret Tunnel will entertain you as well as show that God really cares. This is the first book of the series Mandie books. Extremely interesting!!!

This book was amazing and very unpredictable! I advise this(these)book(books) to all children. It is about Mandie,a 12-year-old girl who's father died, running away to live with her Uncle John. But, when Mandie gets there she discovers her uncle had died in Europe. Mr.Bond, the caretaker, still allows her to live in the house and help him find her uncle's will. While on the third floor looking for the will,Mandie and her friend,Polly, uncover a secret tunnel. What story does the tunnel tell? Will Mandie find the will? As you turn through the pages, you will find out!

This was a great book! It taught me that even through hard times God still cares about me. I thought the romance between Mandie and Joe was a little too much but other than that you should read this book!

I have been reading the Mandie books since they were first published. I was 8 when this book came out, and I'm now 25...I still read them, and I can't wait to pass them on to my baby daughter. This book is the BEST!

This mandie book was so good I've read it 2 times I love itand all the other mandie series. And I think lt was so sad how mandie lost her father. And I also think it was so sweet how Joe takes care of mandie and then asked her to marry him when they get older.

I loved ALL of the Madie Series! They are one of my favorite series and if you want to read a fun mystery you should try some of the Madie books.

I read the first four Mandie books in the late 80's/early 90's. While I enjoyed the stories, I felt that Mandie was a little bit too perfect, and had too much of an appeal too too many boys in the stories. Really enjoyable books, but not fully realistic.

Okay, The Mandie books are the worst. Buy Nancy Drew. Mandie might be less expensisve, but it doesn't matter if the books just put put you to sleep (which they do.) So if you're thinking about buying any books, make sure they're not Mandie.
