Marie Curie (1867 – 1934) begründete die Radiologie und die Radiochemie und entdeckte die Elemente Polonium und Radium. Gemeinsam mit ihrem Mann Pierre legte sie den Grundstein für die Radioaktivitätsforschung des 20. Jahrhunderts. Für ihre Arbeiten erhielt sie 1903 als erste Frau einen Nobelpreis (für Physik), 1911 bekam sie auch den Nobelpreis für Chemie.
