When danger lurks behind a familiar face...

Successful architect Rachel Granger loves her job and her life, but when a terrorist on the FBI's most wanted list targets her, there's only one man she can trust. She hasn't seen Jake in years but her former college friend told her he'd always be there for her and she definitely needs him now. Even though her feelings for him go far deeper than friendship and just being around him risks her heart, she would do anything to keep those she loves safe from a madman bent on unleashing hell.

Only one man from her past can help

FBI Special Agent Jake Evers made the biggest mistake of his life when he let Rachel slip through his fingers over two years ago. It doesn't matter that he hasn't seen her since then--if she needs him, he'll be there. When he learns that she's the target of a domestic terror cell, he'll do everything in his power to keep her safe. He's never gotten over her and won't risk losing her again now that she's reappeared in his life. But the threat is more widespread than they realized and now it's a race against time to keep her and scores of innocent civilians alive.

I should start this review by stating that I have never read a Kaylea Cross book that I didn’t love and MARKED is no exception!!!! I have been waiting for Jake’s story ever since we first met him in the Titanium series. I was thrilled to finally read his story and see him get his HEA with Rachel. Jake Evers is a true Alpha male --- strong in strength and honour, brave in love and combat, he knows what he want to achieve both professionally and once Rachel came back into his live, personally and nothing is going to stop him from getting what he wants…….not even an international terrorist!! Rachel is Jake’s match in every way. She is a strong, intelligent, independent woman who loves Jake with all her heart. Even though they’ve been separated for years, she still believes in his abilities, especially his ability to save her when the going gets tough! In MARKED, Kaylea takes us through a journey of intrigue, suspense, romance and passion……and she does it in her usual well written, well researched style. The action makes you hold your breath as you wait to see what happens next and the passion, OH, OH, OH the passion, well, it makes you wish you were Rachel!!!! My advice to lovers of Romantic Suspense or Military Romantic Suspense or just lovers of a darn good read……..grab MARKED as fast as you can. It’s a fantastic read and a wicked good start to a new series!!!!!

I loved every minute of reading this book! I the Titanium Security Series before reading this series. The Titanium Security series was really good. I have reread the books. I always wanted to know what happened to Evers and I got my answer in this book! The HRT boys are just awesome! There were times I wanted to yell at the characters, but is it all what makes the story even better. I loved this book and others in the series. All the books are good! You don't really need to read the Titanium Security books to understand this book.

I thought the story was well told in spite of it's short length but the end didn't have me on the edge of my seat. But liked it as a whole.

It says this is a stand alone book but with characters from previous books. I felt lost and could not get into it. Maybe i need to read the series.

All my reviews are available on my blog (along with giveaways, excerpts, chapters, features, cover reveals and more). Marked (Hostage Rescue Team Series) Military Romance Series Book 1 of 6 Reading time: 3 hours – with interruptions (kids) Quote: “Ugh, can’t you at least wait until the game’s over and then I’ll go to bed so you guys can…whatever?” What I liked: I am a bit biased in my love for the name Jake, so there were instantly a few brownie points there. Anyway (lol) Jake’s character was strong and often without hesitation (except when it came to Rachel). I enjoyed his ability to go into things with no fear and do what needed to be done. HOT! What I didn’t like: Jake was fearless EXCEPT when it came to Rachel. I mean, honestly – why deny feelings for so long when basically work is your only excuse for doing so? What bugged me: 1) So long apart – I mean I get jobs and military and such, but come on. Who really allows a fire to go unnoticed that long? An email, a need for help. I don’t know just bugged me. 2) Such a quick ending. It’s like they’re apart – he’s saving her – they’re together – the end. I was looking forward to a bit more steam. Review: Jake and Rachel had known each other for years and seemingly were great friend that never dated because they were always dating other people. Years later, during some down time, Jake sends an email – basically ignored. However, when Rachel finds she may be in danger, she decides to email him for help. (Hey, and of course her responds.) The story had plenty of action and some back and forth play on emotions for Rachel and Jake. There was also instances of regret from both as they weren’t too sure of where they stood with one another all the time and often wished things had been different when they were younger. It made for a solid, but quick, story. Will I read more in the series?: Yes

In Marked, we are introduced to the team in the series. I think that some of the guys may have been introduced in the Titanium Security Series books but I have not had the chance to read through all of those yet, so, don’t quote me on that. Marked follows HRT member Jake Evers and architect Rachel Granger. These two haven’t spoken in a couple of years, but Rachel reaches out to Jake when she finds one of her brother’s friends on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. She knows he is the only one that may believe her and be able to do something about it. The entire story flowed well, the actions scenes were intense and the romance between Jake and Rachel was right on given their history. Even though the love scenes were hot, I they were very sweet and gave me “aww” moments. Now, 180 turn from that was the villain. I often wonder how authors can create such evil villains. I had the chills while reading the villain’s point of view in this book, especially after what he did to his hostage! Marked was the perfect story to kick off the series and introduce you to all the characters, some more than others. Targeted was set up very well and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Tuck and Celida’s story knowing what might be coming up next. The characters in the series are all very well developed. Sometimes in a series, you can run into the same old things with characters, but Cross does a fantastic job of creating different, unique, layered characters in each of her books. The plots are original to each book as well, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The intimate scenes fit each of the characters perfectly and are well placed in the stories. Each one brings out the heat whether it is slow and sweet or hot and heavy. They are tailored so well to each story and plot that you never know what is going to happen or when. Each book is set up nicely to introduce the next one. I love it when we get a glimpse of what is to come from the characters. Cross is a fabulous storyteller, too. She knows just how much detail to give you during each operation the team is tasked to keep you in the thick of the action but not so much that you get a little lost and drift away from the scene. It is a great balance. If you are fan of romantic suspense, I very highly recommend you give this series a try. You will be glad you did.

Rachel is an architect. Some of her USBs are taken and they contain building plans. When she recognizes one of her brothers friends as a terrorist on the FBIs most wanted. She reaches out to Jake, an agent for NSA and he is more than happy to help. Then her brother is kidnapped and they want the building plans in exchange for her brother. I'll be honest it just couldn't hold my attention for some reason. You have sex, terrorists, and hunky military men.
