From the award-winning author of The Summer Bride comes the first in a charming new historical romance series where marriages of convenience turn into true love matches.

Major Calbourne Rutherford returns to England on the trail of an assassin, only to find he’s become Lord Ashendon, with the responsibility for vast estates and dependent relatives. Cal can command the toughest of men, but his wild half-sisters are quite another matter. They might just be his undoing.

When he discovers that Miss Emmaline Westwood, the girls’ former teacher, guides them with ease, Cal offers her a marriage of convenience. But strong-minded and independent Emm is neither as compliant nor as proper as he expected, and Cal finds himself most inconveniently seduced by his convenient wife.

Emm knows they didn’t marry for love, yet beneath her husband’s austere facade, she catches glimpses of a man who takes her breath away. As pride, duty and passion clash, will these two stubborn hearts find more than they ever dreamed of?

I must say that this author is my favorite romance writter. And as always I was wholly entertained. The hero was sigh worthy and the heroine strong and warm. Good chemistry. Just a well rounded story from beginning to end, I hope the Rutherford girls get their own stories too,

The writing is good, maybe a bit wordy sometimes, but the story line was easy to follow and a nice read

Major Calbourne (Cal) Rutherford has but one goal: to capture an assassin who is running rampant in the post-Napoleonic era. Just one goal. Until he is forced to become Lord Ashendon (after his brother’s death). And assume care of his two sisters (who don’t obey his commands as well as his troops ever did). Why was war easier than controlling two girls who aren’t even out yet? Life is so complicated...Fortunately for Cal, life becomes so much more convenient for him when he devises a brilliant solution to his problem: find a woman to take on the care of his sisters and launch them into society. But what if his suggestion doesn’t suit her? What if she says - no? More than once. But even when she finally agrees, does the “convenient” marriage solve his problems? Ah, the best laid plans of mice and men… Anne Gracie excels in the much-beloved trope of the marriage of convenience plot. As always, she gives the reader much to admire in the engaging and memorable characters she creates and the obstacles she sets in their path. Not only did I love Marry in Haste, the first in Gracie’s new “A Marriage of Convenience Romance” series, but I can't wait until the rest of the books in the series are available.
