Overview

About the Author

Octavia Burney is a South Hill, Virginia native who earned a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in psychology from Liberty University. She is currently pursuing a Master's in clinical social work from Virginia Commonwealth University. With over twenty years of experience in healthcare and infectious disease, as well as two years of experience in crisis counseling, Octavia is well-versed in providing support.
As a burn survivor who suffered second and third-degree burns in December 2018, Octavia is an author and poet. She uses her personal experience to understand trauma firsthand and focuses on using art therapy, including writing methods, to help individuals cope. Octavia aims to improve support and healthcare services for this demographic.

Apart from her professional life, Octavia is an avid reader, adventurer, modern dancer, and music lover. She is currently practicing the acoustic guitar and believes that faith, courage, and creativity lead to excellence. Octavia strives to empower others and bring joy to every situation. She is eagerly looking forward to opportunities to collaborate with others.
