She's running from her past, he's unsure about his future...

Officer Garrett Jamison lost faith in his ability as a police officer after unwittingly setting his sister up with a dirty cop. Garrett ended up getting shot, and his nephew kidnapped right out of his own bed. He takes a leave from the force, in need of some time to make a decision about his future. Too bad he can't get a decent night's sleep thanks to his sexy new neighbor and her howling cat.

Jessica McGovern moves halfway across the country to start a new life in Green Bay, Wisconsin after her ex-husband is convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of their young son. Her new neighbor is as infuriating as he is handsome, but when her ex is released from prison early and shows up in town, Jessica discovers she's never needed anyone more.

He just wanted to get to know the obstinate woman...

"I'm a pretty good listener, Jess. And anything you tell me would be strictly confidential. You have my word."

She looked up at him with those big blue eyes, and the temptation to pull her into his arms nearly overpowered him. Their earlier kiss had been cut short, and he hadn't been able to think about much since.

"There's nothing to tell," she insisted. "I got married too young, and he turned out to be a total loser. End of story."

Having hoped she would open up to him, Garrett felt a surprising sense of disappointment. "Fine. If that's the way you want it, I won't push." He swiped his fingers through his hair. "Your business is your business."

"Finally," she said with a playful roll of her eyes. "Listen, it's been great fun and all, but I have to get up early for work. So, if you wouldn't mind..." She gestured toward the door.

Garrett shook his head and chuckled. "Woman, you are hell on a man's ego."

"Somehow, I think you'll live."

"Well?" He stood up and motioned her forward. "Aren't you going to send me off with a good night kiss?"

She let out a delicate snort. "You act as if we're dating or something. Hell, we just got past our mutual dislike of each other."

"Is 'mutual dislike' what you were feeling when you wrapped your arms and legs around me in the kitchen?" he asked, annoyed by her casual attitude. "Because it's definitely not what I was feeling."

"I see your ego isn't as delicate as you thought it was."

"Great romance, excellent character development. I've kept the book on my tablet and read it over several times." -Wendy, Amazon Reviewer

About the Author

USA Today Bestselling author Donna Marie Rogers inherited her love of romance from her mother. Romance novels, soap operas, Little House on the Prairie--her mother loved them all. And though it wasn't until years later Donna would come to understand her mother's fascination with Charles Ingalls, Donna's love of the romance genre is every bit as all-consuming. Though Donna loves to read anything from vikings to vampires, her heart is with small town romance.

A Chicago native, Donna now lives in beautiful Northeast Wisconsin with her husband and children. She's an avid gardener and home-canner, as well as an admitted reality TV junkie. Her passion to read is only exceeded by her passion to write, so when she's not doing the wife and mother thing, you can usually find her sitting at the computer, creating exciting, memorable characters, fresh new worlds, and always happily-ever-afters.

This was a great fast read. Jessica McGovern is running from a painful past and packs up and moves to WI. Her neighbor Garret Jamison is a police officer who has taken a leave of absence to clear his head after he starts questioning his own ability to do his job right. He and Jessica do not meet on the best of terms and her pesty cat keeps irritating Garrett. Jessica's past and ex catches up with her and Garrett's family gets pulled into the mess. Garret and Jessica end up falling for each other. After the incident between her ex and Garrett she runs back to Seattle to her parents. Garrett comes to Seattle to work things out with her and I found my self routing for them to reconcile. This was an easy read book and Good!

It was a good read. Thought Garrett’s was a little slow on the draw. He missed the mark with his partner in book one. That was understandable. He helped send an innocent man to prison because he didn’t have the balls to trust his instincts in book one also. However, how was it that Jack (the same man he helped send to prison) could pick up on Jessica’s fear and he (who was supposedly in love with her) couldn’t? Why did Jack have to stake out Jessica’s place and watch over her? Why was it Jack who prevented a tragedy from happening with Muriel? For him to be a cop he sure dropped the ball too many times. Still a good read. I love Uncle Luke (as well as his love life) and it was nice catching up with Sara and Mike.

It is goo & funny, but for Pete ' sake stop making girls so hard to communicate, try to teach that the only way in a relationship is respect, love & open wide communication.

I was looking forward to this after readind the first in the series, but what a letdown! Jessica has to be the most unlikeable, unsympathetic character I've met in a long time. Garrett deserved better, but he evidently was too stupid to realize it.

Book 2 was just as good as book 1! Garrett is grumpy, domineering, and brooding...except when it comes to his nephew. Enter Jessica, his next door neighbor. Garrett and Jessica quickly realize that while they live to push each other's buttons, it's only to hide their attraction for each other. Jessica's past comes back in full force, while Garrett's future are hanging in the balance as well. Are they Meant To Be? This series is wildly entertaining as I found myself chuckling at some of the things they say and do. Plus, throw in suspense and you have a great series. Can't wait to check out Danny's short story!

Read both books in the series. Enjoyed them, but author has a problem with the physical descriptions of her characters. All the men are 6 plus in height and the women 5 to 5 feet with great racks!! Get real!!! Would be nice to have a little variety much too much cookie cutter descriptions.
