Miss Kane's Christmas (A Christmas Central Romantic Comedy, #1) by Caroline Mickelson

With Christmas only three days away, Carol Claus agrees to her father's request that she leave the North Pole on a mission to help save Christmas. Joining single father Ben Hanson and his children for the holidays seems an easy enough task until Santa informs her that Ben is the man behind the disturbing new book 'Beyond Bah Humbug: Why Lying to Your Children about Santa Claus is a Bad Idea'.

Posing as Miss Kane, the children's new nanny, Carol pulls out all the stops to show Ben how fun Christmas can be, all the while struggling to understand how one man could hate the holidays so much. How could she, Santa's only daughter, be so attracted to a man who refuses to believe her father exists?

Miss Kane's Christmas is an enjoyable Christmas novella that will get you in the spirit of the holiday season! Author Caroline Mickelson weaves a sweet romantic comedy that follows Carol Claus aka Miss. Kane as she is sent on a mission from her father, Santa Claus, to share the true spirit of Christmas with a widower and his two young children. Ben Hogan is a non-believer who has issues with Christmas. He is a sportswriter who is working on a book that has Santa worried: "Why Lying To Your Child About Santa Is A Bad Idea." Carol's mission is to teach Ben to learn to love Christmas and turn him into a Christmas Ambassador, who will keep the tradition and magic of Christmas and Santa Claus alive. Carol assumes the role of Miss. Kane, a nanny that Ben has contracted to help him with his two children: eight year old Hillary and six year old Patrick. Carol pulls out all the stops to spread the true joy and magic of Christmas to the Hanson family, but an unexpected thing called love happens along the way ... Can Carol change Ben's feelings towards Christmas or will she get her heart broken trying to keep her promise to Santa? This was such a sweet holiday story that captivated me from the beginning. I am a sucker for everything Christmas, and this quick little novella sure left a smile on my face. You can't help but get drawn into Carol and the Hanson family's story, it will tug at your heartstrings, and also keep you laughing at Carol and her helpful trio of elves crazy antics that they pull to get the Hanson family in the Christmas spirit. I fell in love with little Hillary and Patrick, I wanted them to experience the magic of Christmas like other children do, and I wanted to box Ben's ears for denying them the chance to believe in Santa, but I also wanted to hug the whole family for what they've gone through too. I loved following Carol's mission, she is a sassy girl with a heart of gold that shined throughout the story. I was thoroughly entertained by the romance and comedy in this story. I could easily see this story as a Lifetime or Hallmark TV movie. I think the author sprinkles her own kind of holiday magic dust on the readers, Miss Kane's Christmas is a must read that will make you believe in the joy and magic of Christmas, and it will definitely put you in the holiday spirit!

Miss Kane's Christmas is a charming story about magic, miracles and love. Ben Hanson is writing a book to debunk Santa and encourage parents not to lie about his existence to their children. Carol is sent to bring Christmas joy to him and his two young children. Ben is a hard sell, but he's easily attracted to Carol's warmth and affection for the children. He's not so fond of the decorations and hopes she brings to the children, which he's sure will be dashed. Will Carol be able to bring change to Ben's heart in just three days? Find out in this wonderful Christmas story.

Recommended for a light-hearted Christmas story. The book is for readers of all ages. It is a very cute, romantic story where Santa's daughter tries to bring cheer to a family where the father does not have one speck of it.

Three days before Christmas Santa Claus sends his daughter, Candy Kane, on an assignment to get Ben Hanson to believe in Christmas and the magic that surrounds it. Not only does Ben not believe in Santa, etc. but he is writing a book called Beyond Bah Humbug: Why Lying to Your Children about Santa Claus is a Bad Idea. Santa hopes Candy can get Ben to stop writing the book because it would ruin Christmas for children everywhere. In order to get into Ben's life Candy pretends to be the au pair he hired so she was able to live in the home and make Christmas fun for his two children. This is a cute story about the magic of Christmas with trips to Christmas Central at the busiest time of the year. I liked the sleighs being pulled by flying reindeer and the hundreds of elves working hard to have everything ready for the big day. This is a fun story to put you in the Christmas spirit.

Carol Claus, aka Carol Kane, must go and do the impossible. In three short days, she has to find a way to convince Ben Hanson that Christmas is a magical time of year. I will admit her way of going about it would have driven me bonkers, but then again, I'm practically a prime candidate for Ben Hanson's book: "Beyond Bah Humbug: Why Lying to Your Children about Santa Claus is a Bad Idea". So I sympathized a great deal with his point of view. Though there is something magical when children believe in Christmas and Santa Claus. And Ben's children, Hillary and Patrick, are more than ready to join Carol in celebrating Christmas. Written in both Carol and Ben's point of view, the reader gets a terrific view of both sides. Their viewpoints are fairly realistic and fun to read. Since this is a novella, everything moves at a quick pace. It felt more like Carol had a week or two to pull everything off. But she was a master at elf management, so she put her skills to work to get everything done in record time. While the ending was predictable, it was done well. After all, happy endings are expected in Christmas stories. Caroline Mickelson's writing is quick paced with just the right amount of detail. I know I won't hesitate to read another one of her books in the future.

There is something about the Christmas season that makes most people smile a little brighter, laugh a little longer and forgive a little faster. It is the one time all year that we go out of our way to live the 'goodwill towards men' lifestyle. Why? Maybe because for most of us, we retain memories and echoes of the feelings of magic and hope from our childhood Christmases. Dreams of Santa, the elves, North Pole and a sleigh pulled by magical reindeer, were encouraged and built upon year after year. Only a true Scrooge could deny the beauty of seeing the wonder in a child's eyes during the Christmas season. And that is exactly what we have in this book, a Scrooge.  He can't even seem to help himself, even though he is not actually deliberately trying to remove all the joy from his children's young lives. The story opens on Santa giving his daughter Carol an assignment. She will be playing the part of a nanny for a young girl and boy who's father, Ben, doesn't believe in Christmas. She has just a matter of days to show him the true meaning of Christmas and restore his Christmas spirit.  Otherwise his book, Beyond Bah Humbug: Why Lying to Your Child about Santa is a Bad Idea could affect Christmas for an untold number of children around the world.  I will be honest, the romance portion of this book, just didn't do it for me. It didn't make sense to me how they managed to fall in love so quickly. But changing Ben's mind about Christmas was well played. I enjoyed watching him see his children change before his eyes and his realization of what he was doing to them was well written and touching. I adored the elves, especially Rapz, and wish I had gotten to see more of them and the kids were hoot. Overall, if you are looking for a feel good story, with a reminder of why the Christmas spirit is important, then this was a great read. I have it 3 stars on Goodreads.
