Overview

Mister Hockey: Hellions Angels by Lia Riley

Her biggest fantasy is about to become a reality. . .

Jed West is Mr. Hockey. The captain of the NHL’s latest winning team, the Denver Hellions—and the hottest player on the ice—at least according to every magazine. .and Breezy Angel. Breezy has been drooling over Jed at games for years, and he plays a starring role in her most toe-curling fantasies. But dirty dreams don’t come true, right?

Then Jed saunters through the doors of her library, a last minute special guest for a summer reading event, and not only is he drop dead gorgeous up close, his personality is straight up swoon-worthy. He even comes to the rescue when she has an R-rated “Super Book Worm” costume malfunction. But when he mistakenly assumes she’s more into books than pucks, she’s too flustered to correct his mistake. And then comes a big kiss, followed by a teensy-tiny problem. Jed’s dating policy is simple: Never date a fan.

So what’s a fangirl going to have to do to convince her ultimate crush that he’s become less of a perfect fantasy, and more like the perfect man. . .for her?

Breezy Angel is a librarian with a big heart, a great sense of humor and a huge collection of uber fangirl items picturing her favorite hockey player and captain of the local team. She’s also suffered from the feeling of never being “enough” when compared to her beautiful, petite and successful older sister Neve. She’s always felt as if her choices (and her figure) are a disappointment, and while she’ll always choose a book over every activity but a hockey game, she can’t seem to connect with her mother otherwise. Jed West is the captain of the team: handsome, hardworking and having just had back to back winning seasons, he’s reached a fork in his own path. See, in game seven of the finals he took a stick to the head, and has been experiencing some double vision and blurriness since then. With an older brother now suffering concussion related issues – he’s certainly got plenty to think about. And then, when in the midst of an interview with Neve Angel, a sportscaster, he agrees to step in to a guest appearance for a children’s reading challenge at Breezy’s library. So, the relationship and connection between Breezy and Jed was quick: super fast. And she’d discovered the man behind the fantasy superstar she dreamed of regularly – so sharing her fangirl status was just TOO weird. But Jed was truly a nice guy – interested in her, her life and her feelings He loved her humor and good nature, her warmth and openness, and even finds her crazy and outspoken grandmother amusing. Sure, there were moments that were completely silly – and others that seemed to skip the ABC of getting to know you as they got to know one another, but each had what the other needed, two halves that fit well together. With plenty of steam (and ooh baby the steam) and a moment where Jed shows that he’s not always thoughtful, but can realize a mistake when he makes one, the story packed plenty of heart and most importantly, presented both Breezy and Jed with people who saw them as people, not celebrities, not sisters who never feel good enough, and most of all, as someone they want to spend more time with. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

I'm not usually a fan of sports romances. They're just not my thing. But honestly, I'm just going to come out and say that I absolutely adored MISTER HOCKEY. You definitely don't have to be a hockey fan to appreciate it. One thing I do love about sports romances is that sense of camaraderie and the importance that teammates and coaches play in each others lives. It ensures that you not only fall for the heroes, but become invested in the lives and love-lives of supporting characters. It makes you crave their stories which makes for a brilliant start to a successful series. There are so many things that I loved about the characters that it might take way too long to break down. Breezy is a quirky, smart, funny librarian who gets to meet her celebrity crush and somehow, despite some awkward mishaps, ends up with him back at her place. I feel like this is the kind of fantasy any woman can get behind! Plus, I have so much love for the fact that she's a librarian. I'm always a fan of bookish, curvy babes getting the hunk! Especially when they're sassy and spunky to boot. There was something so special about the way Breezy's family was portrayed. I love that they're a group of such strong-willed, distinct women. And I thought it was an amazing touch to have hockey, which is typically seen as something men bond over, be the thing that always brings them together. Breezy and her mother don't see eye-to-eye very often but I thought their relationship and their ups and downs felt very honest and relateable. Jed is really the whole package. He's sweet, charming and deliciously dirty. Plus it doesn't hurt that he's ripped and has a thing for geeky, curvy girls. Be still my heart. He might be a famous hockey player and the captain of his team but he's so thoughtful and down to earth when he's with Breezy, her family and his friends. He's a stellar book boyfriend and one of the reasons I can't wait for the next installment in the series. Lia Riley might have just made me a hockey romance convert. This novel was funny, sweet and all kinds of sexy. The best kind of dirty, sexy fun! The characters were brought to life with such heart, humor and personality that you can't help but fall head first into their romance. And trust me, it's one hell of a ride. If you're into contemporary romances without the cookie-cutter characters, then this is definitely one you need to read! Disclosure: I received this book free in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions shared are my own.

4.5 Stars I really enjoyed this book, Breezy made this book for me. She's so delightful and so relatable. She gets to live out her fantasy with Jed which as a sports nut can completely appreciate. I also really liked Jed, He's at a cross roads in his life and tough decisions have to be made. I'm glad he met someone like Breezy because she's just perfect for him. There is plenty of humor that had me chuckling a lot while reading this. One of my favorite parts of the book. It's my first book by Lia Riley and it won't be my last. I liked the little build up for the next book in the series.

If you are looking for a sexy romance sprinkled with humor, a loveable, funny heroine, and a truly swoonworthy hero, then Mr. Hockey is the perfect book for you! I LOVED it!!!! Breezy Angel appears to be a normal woman. A woman anybody would love to have her as her BFF! She is a children’s librarian and loves her books! That right there made me adore her. But, she isn’t just normal, she is extraordinary. Her name truly fits her. Her personality comes alive! She also has a major crush on Jed West, Mr. Hockey, the captain of NHL team, the Denver Hellions. And, who wouldn’t crush on this sex god? The star of her fantasies becomes her star guest for her children’s reading hour after his coach isn’t able to make it. One thing leads to another and the day ends with the two of them in a hot and heavy make out session in her living room! Jed really tries to get her out of his head, but it’s impossible, so he decides to get to know her better. As they spend more time together, she discovers that he isn’t just her celebrity fantasy but an actual man. He does fix-it jobs, makes her laugh, and a heart of gold rests underneath that sexy exterior. More importantly, he makes her feel good about herself. She doesn’t feel like the woman who doesn’t measure up to her sister. He sees her for who she is and likes what he sees. She makes him feel normal. He isn’t Jed West, Mr. Hockey. He’s just Jed! “For so long he’d fought tooth and nail to be extraordinary. The best of the best. A champion. But an ordinary heart beat in his chest, one who yearned for simple things. A home, not a high-rise condo with a fridge empty except for beer and protein shakes.” The two of them have an amazing chemistry, as Breezy says, “a mad-scientist-crackling-in-the-laboratory insane” chemistry. That definitely leaps off the pages creating lots of butterflies in the stomach! Even their innocent encounter in her kitchen talking about a mixer was crackling with sexual tension! What makes their romance perfect is the sweetness to it. These two are constantly trying to live up to their parents’ expectations and always somehow falling short. When they are together, no of that matters. Of course, there is some angst, Jed has some health issues going on. Plus, he DOES NOT date fans, so you know there is going to be repercussions when he finds out that Breezy is his number one fan! Can Breezy prove to him that he so much more than that, and she loves him for who he is, not Mr. Hockey? You can bet your bottom dollar it’s worth the ride to see this couple get their HEA! Great story with great characters!!!! ****Read and Reviewed for Devilishly Delicious Book Reviews***

3 stars There are 2 things I love in books. Sports and romance! I wanted to love Mister Hockey, but it fell a little short for me. Hockey player Jed is on an off season and he is dealing with the lingering effects of concussions. Jed is at a fork in the road when dealing with his career. And it is off season, so there is no hockey action in this one. Jed has plenty of off time on his hands to do other non hockey things. Breezy (I did not love them name, to be honest, it irked me) is a librarian. She has low self esteem and a hug thing for Jed. So when she meets him and becomes involved with him, it is like a dream. Breezy's lack of confidence and always putting herself down was something I really wasn't a fan of. At times, it got old. I realize she would feel a little insecure dating a famous hockey player, but she was a little much for me.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This was a really different kind of hockey romance. It is big on cute and funny, so if you want to laugh a lot and read about a hockey player, then you will love this story. It is heavy on laughter but very light on the hockey part. It is more centered on laughter, fan girls and the bad part of sports, traumatic brain injury. Between those three subjects it made this book beyond wonderful. In the first scene of the book we meet Jed West aka Westy. A BIG hockey star and we also meet him as he is eating lunch with a reporter, when said reporter gets a call from her sister. Her sister is Breezy and she is a librarian in need of a storytime reader and her sister asks Jed to be the reader. Meanwhile Jed is having some issues. His eyes have episodes of blurryness and he had a brother who hadhas tramautic brain injury so he knows the dangers of the sport he plays in. He is hoping it is nothing and goes away. He goes to storytime and its not a boring storytime that is for sure. He in fact meets and falls into lust with very curvy Breezy and through a series of events she ends up taking his rain jacket home with her. So Jed follows and thats how he ends up in Breezy's home. What Jed doesn't know is that Breezy is his biggest fan. She has memoribilla all over her place so she tries to hide her fan girlness because she finds it embaressing. This is part of the funniest scenes in the book. I loved how real this story was. Jed is hot and sexy but he is also a serious guy. He falls for Breezy because she is real and seems to see the guy not the star. Breezy is far from perfect. She is voluptious. She is not the successful sister in this story. She constantly feels like the screw up family member. And Jed while he is a success, he feels alientated from his family and especially his brother. Plus he has some real issues as he knows what can happen if you get one brain injury too much. This story was beyond great and I highly recommend it. It is very a very different sports romance than I have ever read before.

When Breezy Angel comes face to face with her heart throb hero, the team captain of Denver Hellions Jed West when he steps in to read at the library where she runs the children reading programs she's stunned speechless, its like having her wildest fantasy walk right up to her. And when he's charming, sweet, and totally attentive to every kid there, her heart rate kicks up another hundred notches. So imagine her horror when she has a costume malfunction, right there in front of a library full of children, and her dream man. When she shows up on her doorstep later that day, she's both mortified, and in seventh heaven. Jed can't help but be fascinated by Breezy, and when he realizes she ran off with his jacket, he's more than happy to run by her house to pick it up. And when she has a problem with a leaky roof, he can't seem to resist staying to help her out with that too. This book was such a blast to read. Lia Riley writes great romance, and the quirky side characters bring life to the story. The comedic timing was great, and Breezy - oh, she is one (unintentionally) funny girl. I read this book through from start to finish because I just could not put it down.

Poor Breezy! She meets her biggest crush in quite an embarrassing manner, but Jed (like us) can only be charmed by her. She’s fun loving, funny and so very real. Every time something awkward happens I just want to give her a hug. Jed knows there is a version of himself that most people see and it is so appealing to be seen as just a guy. A hot, sexy guy but just a guy. He’s got a lot on his plate between family pressure and some issues with his career, so having found Breezy gives him that bright spot that he needs at a difficult time. You can totally relate to both Jed and Breezy – why he wants to be seen as him and how she ends up hiding her fan status from him. You know that it isn’t going to go well, that something is going to happen to blow things out of the water. The best you can do is hope that Jed gets his act together and figures out what a great catch he has in Breezy. I have to say that he does do pretty well for himself :) (Can’t wait to see what comes next … Riley has set us up for quite the doozy of a stand off between Breezy’s sister and Jed’s coach!)

This was so entertaining and refreshing! I love it when a book unexpectedly make me laugh. I had so much fun reading this. I feel like I found a gem! Mister Hockey was just pure fun with great humor. I thought Jed and Breezy were extremely likable characters. They had such a hilarious first meeting and they kept going strong from there. Jed and Breezy were so sweet end genuine and I loved their banter. I thought they had great chemistry and were flirty and fun together, I loved their playfulness. I loved the build of them coming together. There are some things they're both dealing with, him a hockey injury and her some self esteem issues and I like how they were addressed and how it played out in the story. This was an easy read with a bit of drama and some emotion mixed in but the big take away is that it was highly entertaining. I loved the building heat and the sexy times. The writing was really good. This was a fast paced read with really good details and descriptions, not overly in depth but enough that was totally hooked. There were a few transition issues in the front half for me but after that it was smooth sailing. This story was seriously a winner! It was just one of those stories that was outright fun to read and I kept giggling throughout. It wasn't sports heavy at all but him being a hockey player definitely plays into things. I love the set up for the next story, Head Coach. Great way to kick off a new series! Complimentary copy received for honest review.

Briana AKA Breezy has a sister who brings her hottest fantasy to her library to fill in for another celebrity guest. He is everything she has always wanted. Too bad she is told by everyone around her she can never win a man like him. Jed is happy to fill in for his coach. Meeting Breezy is like a breath of fresh air. He has no idea she is his biggest fan. Is it possible to have too much in common? One of my favorite lines from this fantastic book is: "Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, I am Sexy, Screw You All." Lots and lots of humor in this story. Full of serious heat, hijinx, and lots of heartwarming moments this is a book for all romance lovers. There is something in here for everyone. I cannot wait for the next book in the Hellions Angels series. ***This ARC copy was given in exchange for an honest review only.

A librarian meets--and dates--her hockey crush? Yes, please! :) This book was so much fun to read. I absolutely loved the beginning, when Breezy first meets Jed and can barely string two words together...and then, OMG, her costume malfunction. Absolutely too funny! Their relationship progresses along nicely, if a bit quickly, though the specter of her stalker-like "Jed closet" is always hovering in the background (and yikes, it's more than a little scary how closely I resemble Breezy's fan persona...funny, but scary. And when she's talking about where she is in her Goodreads challenge for the year? I'm pretty sure we were separated at birth). Still, they're really adorable together. Not to mention H-O-T... Certain parts of the story (Breezy's mom's turnaround, for one) seem a little bit too easy, but overall I enjoyed this story too much to really mind. I absolutely cannot wait to see what's going to happen with Breezy's sister Neve and Coach Tor in the next book, especially if Jed and Breezy are going to be hanging around... ;) Rating: 4 stars / A- I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

4.5 of 5 Stars Librarian, Breezy Angel, is stunned when the man of her dreams (and literally in her dreams) walks in as a guest reader at her event. Denver Hellions team captain, Jed West, is the hottest player in the NHL. One thing lead to another and they have an amazing kiss. The only problem is, Jed doesn’t date fans. This story is suitable for adult audiences. Mister Hockey is an entertaining start to the Hellions Angels series. There are realistic obstacles and occurrences. The plot was witty and believable. Lia Riley character development was noteworthy. Jed is an interesting individual. He is getting older and understandably concerned about a recent injury that he received in game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals. He has a complicated relationship with his family. I appreciate that he wants to be in a relationship with someone who treats him like a regular person. Breezy is a likable character. She is funny and sweet. Her visuals are amusing. She feels like she has lived I her sister Neve’s shadow, but still has a good relationship with her. I appreciated Breezy’s insights on her relationship with Jed. It was interesting how she went from fan girl to girlfriend. I could totally understand why she would be embarrassed to admit that she had a crush on Jed. I liked the realization that he is a person like everyone else. I like how Breezy and Jed met. I also, love that helps her at her house. They are compatible in many thought-provoking ways. MISTER HOCKEY is a well-written and fun read. The story flows well and is easy to follow. This is the first book that I have read by Lia Riley. I enjoyed her writing style. I plan on following this series. I’m looking forward to Nave Angel’s and Coach Tor’s story next in HEAD COACH expected to be released in November 2017. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Imagine meeting the biggest fantasy of your dreams. That star sports player who you'd never in a million years think you'd meet in person. But that's what happens when Breezy Angel meets Jed West, captain of the Denver Hellions NHL team. And it's so better much better than she could have imagined. Jed West...*sigh* He may be the star player of his team, but there's much more to him. He's kind, caring, and oh so into Breezy Angel. He likes everything about her, especially her curves. Breezy, head of the children's section of the local library (which I love) is all about the books and hockey of course (the women in her family are die-hard hockey fans), but she doesn't let Jed in on a little secret that she's his biggest fan. She's got the Jed West memorabilia to prove it. She doesn't want him thinking that is the only reason she's into him. Because after meeting him and sharing some hot kisses, Breezy knows it goes way beyond that. But Jed has secrets of his own and it could be what tears them apart. Breezy's family hasn't always been supportive of her and she's been in the shadow of her "perfect" sister (who's a sports columnist). She loves her sister and her family, she just wishes her family, especially her mother could see how special she is too. She does have an awesome 90 year old grandma, who I loved! Hot chemistry, sexy scenes and a couple I was rooting for from the beginning, Mister Hockey is a great start to the Hellions Angels series. I can't wait to read Breezy's sister Neve and the head coach's story! **I received an ARC from the publisher through Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review**

Breezy lives life in her namesake; running the children's section of her library and escaping to her romance books was all she needed. But when her sister comes through when her special guest star can't make it...she walks in with none other than Jed West...Breezy's all time hockey-star crush. What can only be described as a romantic getaway ensues. And not only can this book win you over but it'll make your heart burst with pride! This read went so quickly for me because Jed and Breezy were such a fun duo. Breezy has always been the more introvert of her family except for one area: her hockey team The Hellions. Her love for them knows no bounds and watching her get all flustered around Jed was so stinkin cute! Jed is so sweet and caring with her from the get go and finds himself wanting to have more excuses to spend time with her, Jed West doesn't have the typical persona of a professional athlete but alas the life of the captain is hellish. He's charming and handsome alright but when he meets Breezy he's able to drop the persona and just be Jed, the man. She's not in to him for his fame and he's finally able to let down his guard. And the sparks between them ignite a fire he's more than ready to burn in. Ugh...a whirlwind romance filled with passion, humor and some crazy hot hockey players! So sexy! Hope there's more of these Hellions!
