Overview

Moonshadow by Thea Harrison

From bestselling author Thea Harrison comes the first in an explosive new trilogy set in the Elder Races world….

Her past is a blank, her future uncertain….

Recovering from a shooting, LAPD witch consultant Sophie Ross leaves her job and travels to the U.K. to search for answers about her childhood. When she encounters a Daoine Sidhe knight of the Dark Court, she becomes entangled in an ancient hatred between two arcane forces.

He has given his body and soul to fight for his people….

Barred from his homeland along with his surviving brother knights, Nikolas Sevigny is embroiled in a conflict that threatens everything he holds dear. Only by uniting his people’s resources can they hope to prevail against Isabeau, the deadly Queen of the Light Court. He will do anything and use anyone to return home to Lyonesse.

When Nikolas encounters Sophie, he sees a tool to be used. The insouciant witch might be the key to unlocking every passageway that has been barred to the knights of the Dark Court, even as a fascination for her takes root in what’s left of his soul.

Sophie has no intention of becoming anyone’s pawn, yet the fierce Nikolas is so compelling, she can’t deny the temptation that endangers her guarded heart.

As magic threatens Lyonesse, Queen Isabeau unleashes her merciless Hounds, and Nikolas and Sophie become embroiled in a race for survival. Meanwhile, the passion that ignites between them burns too hot to be denied and quickly turns into obsession.

Thank goodness they both know better than to fall in love…

Totally unfair to give 1 or 0 stars, when the problem isn't the book, it was a technical glitch with BN that was quickly fixed. The book itself is excellent!

This was the first book I've read by this author, and I enjoyed it. The heroine was smart and capable, and had great banter with the hero. I plan on getting the next book in the series when it comes out.

This first book in the MOONSHADOW series also of the same title is set in Thea Harrison’s Elder Races world, but these stories take place in the United Kingdom rather than the US. Sophie Ross was a magic user consultant for the LAPD when she was wounded on duty. When an unexpected chance to leave her job and possibility inherit a manor house in Great Britain arises, she decides to take it as well as look for answers about her unknown parents. Sophie was raised by witch foster parents; however, her magical heritage is nebulous. Her unusual talents and fighting spirit make Sophie very attractive to a Daoine Sidhe knight of the Dark Fae Court, Nikolas Sevigny, who has been battling to get back to his homeland in another dimension. The nasty Queen of the Light Court, Isabeau, is doing everything she can to wipe out Nikolas and his knights including unleashing her monstrous Hounds to destroy what’s left of his fighting force. Sophie and Nick meet first in a vision, and then in a small English village when she comes to claim the property if the house will accept her. This enchanted house straddles both places, existing in her world and the Other Land. Nikolas sees her as a weapon to be used in the fae war, and as an aide to the way back home which he is desperate to find. Sophie is quite a saucy woman of exceptional and creative talent who is less than thrilled with the handsome knight’s attempt to order her around like one of his troops. Despite their clash of wills, they are strongly attracted to one another with intense passion burning up the pages. Although some of the characters have been introduced in the Elder Races series, this book can be read as a standalone. MOONSHADOW is a great new spinoff of the Elder Races; I enjoyed it immensely. For readers familiar with the first novel in the Elder Races called DRAGON BOUND, Sophie reminds me of Pia, who is one of my favorite characters. Sophie’s personality is an appealing combination of strength and humor as well as kindness for the lost and hurt in the magic and non-magic world. Her strong, compassionate heart is a good counter to Nik’s war-hardened one showing him in her quirky and sometimes infuriating way that love is the strongest and greatest magic of all. This is Thea Harrison at her best crafting a fine story of adventure and romance; fans of her work will be well pleased.

Great characters and story. At first had some trouble with the preordered file but BN fixed it quickly so no longer an issue. If you are a fan of this series I highly recommend.

A must read! Moonshadow is packed with action and adventure, humor, romance, evil sorcerers, brooding heros, and a beautifully strong heroine. Thea Harrison is one of my favorite authors, and her latest novel has worked it's way to my top favorites list. This Elder Races spinoff start to the Moonshadow trilogy is set in the United Kingdom, and sets the stage for more to come. You definitely do not have to read the Elder Races series before reading Moonshadow (although I recommend them as well because it is a great series!). Sophie is tough, determined and resourceful. She is a witch that consults with the LAPD, and after suffering a traumatic injury on the job, is trying to get back to herself while dealing with PTSD. She receives the offer of a lifetime; more information about her past and the possibility of a place of her own--the catch is she has to go to the UK. Nik is tough, determined and resourceful. Sound familiar? He is a Dark Fae and Knight of the Dark Court, who has spent most of his very long life fighting for his people against the enemy Queen of the Light Fae. His people mean everything to him, and are his purpose in life. He will use anything and anyone to help his people. When the two meet, heads collide. Did I mention they are both stubborn? What follows is an awesome adventure that is often humorous and sometimes frustrating--at least for Sophie and Nik. Plenty of heat between the two spices things up, and plenty of side characters add extra depth to their story. Definitely read this book! It is too good to pass up. And grab it while you can at the cheaper price of $2.99! :) As a disclaimer, I did receive an ARC of Moonshadow in exchange for an honest review.

Great start to a new series! This is the best book I have read this year!! I read it from start to finish in one day, then started it again. Moonshadow is a spinoff of the Elder Races series that offers readers the opportunity to fully experience the Elder Races world. Sophie, a consultant for the LAPD, is recovering from a shooting when she is offered an opportunity to inherit some property in England. Needing time to recover and plan for the future, she takes on the challenge. Nikolas, a dark fae knight that is looking for a way to protect his men and get home, sees the perfect solution in Sophie. If only he can get control of his fascination for the resourceful Sophie. Together they light the electronic book pages on fire. When you take two headstrong, independent personalities and throw them into life or death situations you get the page-turner Moonshadow. I throughly enjoyed the book and can hardly wait for the the next one in the series. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Sophie, a survivor with no knowledge of her birth family, has physical injuries and a future that's dependent on her magical abilities. Nikolas, the Commander of the Dark Fae forces, has survived countless battles but lost his decency and humanity in the process. They collide in a vision, then meet in person weeks later under less than ideal circumstances. Throw in a lost puck, malevalent werewolves, and a crazy house that's not entirely in this dimension and you have the basis for "Moonshadow". Despite sometimes dire happenings, the humor throughout kept me tearing up in laughter. Sophie's inner monologue is hysterical. Her insights about Nik and his lost knights are beautiful and heartbreaking. It's easy to delight in Sophie and Nik, but I think I fell in love with all the lost knights. The blurb tells us this is a planned trilogy and I can only hope we'll see more of Gawain and the other knights in future stories. While this is a spin-off of the Elder Races series, no prior knowledge of that series is needed.

Spellbinder is the second book in the Moonshadow series by Thea Harrison. This new exciting trilogy is a continuation of Elder Races series. It brings to light new faces from across the pond in the UK along with a deeper insight into the Dark and Light courts which were teased about in the Elder races series till now (For e.g. the mention of the conflict between the Light Court or the Seelie Fae, ruled by Queen Isabeau and the Dark Court or the Unseelie Fae ruled by Lord Oberon in the UK in Shadow's End). While some of the favorite characters from the U.S. demesnes do make cameos in the Moonshadow books, the focus is on illuminating a new mythos with brand new characters and relationships. We were introduced to this new world and the dark court with Moonshadow, the first book in the series. Now we delve deeper into the Light Court with Spellbinder. This book introduces Sidonie Martel, a musician par excellence. She plays such divine music that even the first generation jinn who are notorious for their bargaining willingly give away favours to hear her music. All this talent is taken away when she is kidnapped and taken to the mystical isle of Avalon. There, she ends up displeasing the evil Queen Isabeau, who takes away her ability to play music. Morgan le Fae is a highly powerful sorcerer/lycanthrope who is despised and feared throughout the realms. He was enslaved by Queen Isabeau hundreds of years ago, through a weapon of unimaginable power and has been forced to commit countless atrocities at her command while acting as her head enforcer and the commander of her Hounds. He despises what he has become, yet has no choice but to follow the Queen's orders. Together, Morgan and Sidonie work together to save themselves from Queen Isabeau and try to find a way to break the her hold. This book does justice to its name and is truly spellbinding. Thea Harrison creates characters with such depth that you just can't help rooting for them.

Love a story with a strong women who knows what she wants, and that is the Moonshadow book.

Wow I loved this book! The heroine is a modern woman who knows her own mind, can defend herself physically and magically and has a few new tricks to teach a Dark Fae warrior cut off from his home. I also liked all the tie ins to the other elder races books. If you like strong feisty women and alpha men you'll love this book as much as I did. If you haven't read the other books I urge to start with the first, DRAGON BOUND and read them all, you'll be glad you did.
