Overview

She keeps house for Inspector Witherspoon...and keeps him on his toes. Everyone’s awed by his Scotland Yard successes—but they don’t know about his secret weapon. No matter how messy the murder or how dirty the deed, Mrs. Jeffries’ polished detection skills are up to the task...proving that behind every great man there’s a woman—and that a crimesolver’s work is never done.

When the general office manager of Sutcliffe Manufacturing is murdered, no one is really surprised. Ronald Dearman was anything but a dear man. The tyrannical bully had more than enough enemies to go around. But who hated him enough to walk into his office and put a bullet between his eyes?

For once, Inspector Gerald Witherspoon doesn't get the case; it's given to another inspector.  Then someone from Mrs. Jeffries' past—someone she'd hoped to never see again—shows up and begs for her help. Now Mrs. Jeffries must step into the fray and stop a terrible miscarriage of justice…

I have loved everyone of the Mrs. Jeffries books. I am always on the look out for them. I am glad that I found them for the Nook. They are good clean mysteries that will keep you on the lookout for who did it.

A nice entry into the series. Characters lives are developing, find out a little about Mrs Jeffries past. What are they going to do when Inspector Witherspoon catches on?

I love the Mrs. Jeffries series. I realize that some of the dialogue may not be as true to the era as it could be, but that doesn't take away from the enjoyment of this wonderful cozy series. This is one of the best books in this series because we have Mrs. Jeffries actually trying to protect a family member. Her sister-in-law, who she has lost contact with for many years, comes to her to ask for her help because the sister-in-law thinks she will be charged with the murder of her brother-in-law. Mrs. Jeffries and her wonderful team of household staff and neighbours sets out to find who the real culprit is. The mystery is more complex than usual in this book, and of course we get to see the wonderful characters from Upper Edmonton Gardens, minus Smythe and Betsy as they are on vacation when the murder occurs. These books are a lot of fun and I look forward to each new one in the series.I love the Mrs. Jeffries series. Emily Brightwell has done it again. This book was like real life. You make do with what you have. This gives her more flexibility in her stories.

As in previous books I found myself as if I were right there involved in finding out who did the murder under the leadership of Mrs Jeffries. It moves fast without tipping the hand till the end.

In this day of psychological and paranormal thrillers, this series is really refreshing for me. It's the Mrs. Marple of today. Good old English "who done it".

Although this particular book is not due for release until May 1st, I am sure that it will be as well written as all of Emily Brightwell's books in the "Mrs. Jeffries" series. The main characters are all familiar and that greatly adds to the story. The mystery-solving part is where they all pitch in and put all the clues together to help solve the crime. All the "Mrs. Jeffries" books have been absorbing because they are so well written. I'm sure that this next version will be as enjoyable as all the previous stories.
