In the latest "Cooking Class Mystery," Annie and Jim are getting married. With the wedding quickly approaching, Annie's best friend, Eve, is helping with the wedding plans. Only, in true Annie fashion, there's a mystery to be solved and even her upcoming nuptials won't stop her. When Jim's cousin Alex is accused of murder, Annie is determined to clear him of the crime. A woman Alex has been meeting at a local bar is found dead in an alley with Alex passed out on top of her, knife in hand. Things look grim for Alex. Annie knows Alex isn't one to kill, so she dives in hoping to find the real killer. When she learns the victim is married with children, Annie sets off to make friends and unravel when a married woman was trolling for men at a local bar. Her sleuthing brings her to the picture perfect model of suburbia and wonders if being happily married is all she'd dreamed of. I've been reading Miranda Bliss's series from the start. Newbies will find it easy enough to follow along, though they may want to go back and see how Jim and Annie met. Through each book, Annie grows a little more. This book is no exception with Annie deciding to create a Scottish delicacy for Jim. Annie is a failure in the kitchen, so it's funny to read of her efforts. Usually, I solve mysteries, especially cozy mysteries, early on. This time a curve threw me and I was mildly surprised by the outcome. I won't say shocked because it all made sense and one part I did have pegged correctly, but I liked how other aspects played out. That unexpected twist proved to be a neat change of pace. As usual, the book ends with a collection of recipes including Reuben Dip, Flan and Deep Fried Mars Bars. (For those unfamiliar with Mars Bars, they are an English candy bar that is no longer offered in the U.S., but the Milky Way is similar.)
