Overview

Before mystery shopper Josie Marcus can say “I do” she must solve a matrimonial murder to keep her in-law from becoming an inmate...

As a bride-to-be, Josie’s latest assignment is a gift—mystery shopping flower and cake vendors for a popular St. Louis wedding website. She even meets another bride, Molly Deaver, at the local florist. Turns out, Josie and Molly have a lot in common, including the groom! Molly has been stalking Dr. Ted for months, but after his high-maintenance mother, Lenore, confronts the faux fiancée, everyone believes Molly is history. Instead, she’s murdered and Ted’s pistol-packing mama is cuffed for the crime.

While it’s tempting to leave her future mother-in-law behind bars, Josie knows she and Ted can’t get married until Lenore is freed. It’s up to Josie and her amateur sleuthing skills to unwrap this case, clear Lenore’s name, and unveil the real killer…or her wedding bells could soon become death knells.

josie and ted are making the plans for their wedding. ted has a stalker that shows up at his clinic in a wedding dress claiming they are to be married in an hour! what? wait! he's engaged to josie and it's a month before their wedding date. a brouhaha ensues while ted is trying to do his tv show at the clinic, molly, the stalker, goes berserk and cuts ted with a scalpel because he won't marry her. ted's mom pulls a gun and threatens molly, all caught on tape by the tv camera! within days molly is murdered outside the clinic inher car with a gunshot to the head. lenore is arrested and josie must find the killer before she and ted can get married. so between mystery shopping, dress fittings, cake tasting, flower choosing, etc, josie sets out to killer hunt. i have read tis series since the beginning and have never been disappointed . it just gets better and better! i am so looking forward to the next installment now that ted and josie are married and in their temporary home. very enjoyable cozy!!!!

The gun packing mother-in-law was a pure delight --- the wedding was the best especially with all the pets in it but the story itself was just too long, too much (one murder would have been enough) and too much of it was revamping Josie’s life ….

The newest book in the Josie Marcus, Mystery Shopper extraordinaire, has Josie tasked by her boss, “Harry the Horrible,” to mystery shop wedding flowers and wedding cakes for a St. Louis wedding website. The timing couldn’t be better for Josie, who is in the throes of planning her own wedding. The first of her mystery-shopper sites is Denise’s Dreams, where the sales associate who assists her is a young woman named Molly, who in the ensuing exchange divulges - - well, gushes - - that she is also about to get married. Josie is a thirty-one-year-old single mom to Amelia, a ‘tween’ with the usual fast-changing sulky-to-“flawless!” mood changes. Her life is about to undergo major changes, with her upcoming wedding to local veterinarian Dr. Ted, scheduled for the day after Thanksgiving, five weeks away as the story opens. Their combined pets include Stuart Little, Josie’s shih tzu, her cat Harry, Ted’s cat Marmalade and his black Labrador, Festus. One week later, shortly after Josie arrives at Ted’s veterinary clinic one morning, a surreal scene unfolds: the self-same Molly, dressed in all her bridal finery, exits a Bentley and pushes her way into the clinic, claiming she’s there to pick up Ted en route to their wedding. Clearly delusional, the scene ends with Molly picking up a scalpel and attacking Ted when he insists that he is indeed shortly to be married, but to Josie. Ted’s mother, also present, disarms her, brandishing the pistol she always carried in her purse. To cut to the chase, “mad Molly” is arrested and charged with assault. She is soon released from jail by a sympathetic judge, but the melodrama continues when, continuing to stalk Ted, she is shot to death in her car in the clinic parking lot. Things only get worse when Ted’s “Boca diva” mother is arrested, as her gun proves to be the murder weapon. The book was a delightful change of pace for this reader, contrasted with other fare of thrillers and serial killers. Besides an intriguing murder mystery with several possible culprits, it offers a few mouthwatering culinary tidbits, and culminates in several pages of shopping tips for wedding-related purchases, from flowers for various segments of the Big Day, bling, cakes, etc. Following which is a peek at the next offering in Ms. Viets’ Dead-End Job Mystery series, “Board Stiff,” published by Obsidian in May 2013, which I have the good fortune to have in my towering TBR/R pile - - more to come on that soon!

The latest book in the Josie Marcus series is much like the other books. It is an easy read and not very challenging. I have read all the other books in this series. Josie is getting married and has to solve a murder before she can get to the alter.

Mystery Shopper Josie Marcus is thrilled to be getting married to Dr.Ted. Her boss gives her an early wedding present/assignment. Josie gets to investigate wedding cakes and flowers. She is also busy finalizing her own wedding plans as her future mother-in-law starts to drive her a little crazy with her "minor" changes. Still it is good to have "pistol packing" Lenore around when she comes to the rescue when a homicidal bridezilla named Molly threatens to kill Ted unless he agrees to marry her. Josie thinks the pre-wedding drama is behind her and there will be smooth sailing ahead. Then Molly is found dead and the pistol packing mama is the prime suspect. Lenore is behind bars and the wedding is on hold. Josie has no choice but to track down the bridezilla killer so that her and Dr. Ted can get married and start their wonderful life together. I love this series! Josie Marcus is an amateur sleuth everyone will love. In this 8th installment to the Mystery Shopper Mysteries she pulls out all the stops. Planning a wedding, dealing with a bridezilla while not becoming one herself, and catching a killer. Then there's her future mother-in-law and her helpful suggestions. While she was behind bars Josie felt obligated to accept every one, but she needs to keep her wedding from becoming an over the top extravaganza. This story will have you laughing out loud, following the clues, and wishing and hoping Josie's dream wedding comes true. This is a fast paced mystery that will keep you guessing until the final clue is uncovered. The author also includes great tips if you are planning a wedding too whether you are the bride or even the future mother-in-law. Elaine Viets always gives us mysteries that are fun and entertaining! Keep them coming Elaine.
