I haven't read a Time Travel Romance in a long time so it was fun and exciting to get back into it with this modern woman's historical caper. I was prepared to have a bit of fun, but I was astoundingly surprised by how much more I got out of this story than I was expecting from the historical authenticity to the depths of the characters to the lovely twisty points of the plot. Oh, the light and humorous stuff was there and a goodly amount of spicy passion was also tossed in for good measure. All around engaging and made for a wonderful reunion between me and the Time Travel Romance. The story opens with Isobelle Rochon, an American and a temp worker at the British Museum, attending a reenactment ball set for 1830s England. She wants to make a big impression on her boss because she is in the running for a permanent job at the museum that will allow her to she loves and give her the money necessary to continue restoration on the property she purchased in the country. The home called to her and she put all she had into acquiring it, but now she needs a good steady job to keep it. Her home is also the old country estate where she found the hidden journal and silver card case on which she is basing her presentation for the job. Others are competing too, but she is determined particularly after she discovered that the guy she has been crushing on only showed his interest to get her to back out of the running. Story of her life with men. None wanted the real Isobelle it seemed and she should have learned her lesson by now. She wishes that she could go back in time to when men were gentleman and women were ladies... And then it happened. Oh, she couldn't believe it at first, but the clues were stacking up. Somehow, Isobelle had traveled back in time. Her first encounters are with The Ada Byron, Lord Byron's daughter and her cousin Lord Montegu. Both are kind and help her even if they think her an oddity. Isobelle entrusts Ada with the truth, but she holds back on trusting Lord Montegu mostly because she needs to keep the attractive man at a distance. She tries to live as inconspicuously as possible as she figures out how she got there and more importantly, how she will get back. Phineas is captivated by the quirky American from the moment he encounters her and can't get her out of his mind. But he can't let even Miss Rochon distract him from his quest for revenge- a revenge that has compelled him to destroy his own reputation in society to achieve his goal. The rakish reputation needs to be set aside as he moves on in the next step. He soon comes up with a proposition involving Miss Rochon that will benefit them both. He offers to help Miss Rochon financially so she doesn't have to depend on poor Ada's generosity and she in turn can help him by lending him respectability through a false engagement that will get him into the right homes of the men he still needs to investigate. Soon though, he is as caught up in Isobelle's intrigues as he is his own. He wants her secrets and he wants their engagement to be real. The story really had a lot going on, but that didn't mean that it got loose and sloppy with the plotting. I enjoyed that both Isobelle and Phineas were taking turns doing the narration. The opening gambits were hilarious as Isobelle went through culture shock and by encountering her, Ada and Phineas did too. I liked that it was a bit of a struggle to accept as it should be. I liked that the explanation for how it could happen was left more to speculation without some long drawn out theory. Its a romance so magical means and a bit of mystery work for me. The story has a few different major threads that need resolution by the end and I enjoyed pursuing all of them. The pacing varied both with exciting moments and quiet ones. The middle slowed down, but I didn't get bored. It took the time to develop not only the friendship and romance between Isobelle and Phineas, but there were some good scenes with Ada and Isobelle too. Phineas' project was left vague until near the end so that added some mild suspense and in the end, his need for revenge was totally justified. His sacrifice in the end because of his love for Isobelle made my eyes tear up- now that was love. He's a hero in more than name only. Like with most time travel stories, Isobelle is faced with the dilemma of to stay or to go. Loving Phineas isn't the problem. Isobelle has learned not to trust love even though she wants it so badly that she even dreamed of going back in the past. She is a strong woman in some ways, but so vulnerable when it comes to trusting men and trusting the right one to see her worth. Phineas was constricted by the times he lived in and by his focus on revenge. That didn't get in the way of the two of them getting up to some sexy times and flouting convention a bit though it did complicate things outside the bedchamber. The cultural differences were enough to wreck havoc for them several times, but it was Isobelle's fears that acted as the biggest barrier of all. I wanted to shake her until her teeth rattled because she let fear drive her into giving up her chance at true happiness. Fortunately, it’s a romance so I finished with a smile instead of a clenched jaw. In the end, I thought this a fabulous read and would heartily recommend it to lovers of Time Travel Romance, but also those who enjoy historical romance for the authentic historical backdrop, engaging characters and engaging plot. My thanks to the author for providing the book in exchange for my honest review thoughts.

I loved the story but at the end of the book the time line doesn't make sense.... Isabelle says she will be born in1944 and go back to Phineas in 1973.... But cell phones didn't exist in 1973 so how does she one in the story??? Still a great story but I would have preferred the author just leave the dates out at the end...

Take a fantastical ride back in time and experience Must Love Breeches. What would you do if you met the perfect guy but he’s from a totally different century?  When Isabelle Rochon is transported back in time, she finds herself in the pre-Victorian England. When she realizes that she has been sent back in time she finds an unlikely ally. Lord Montagu, also known as the Vicious Vicount, and his cousin come to her rescue. Trying to traverse the precarious circumstances, Isabelle finds herself completely drawn to Lord Montagu. When Isabelle situation seems bleak, Lord Montagu offers to name her his fiancée…just for appearances.  Must Love Breeches is a deliciously fun historical romance with time traveling high jinks to boot. I loved it. I found it utterly charming and entertaining. Isabelle gets to meet many prominent figures she has cine ti adore throughout working at the museum.  I can’t leave without mentioning the smoking hot attraction that bursts into flames between long Montagu and Isabelle.  Must Love Breeches perfectly fit my reading tastes...The recipe - 1 dash historical romance plus 1 dash science fiction = perfect read.

Must Love Breeches by Angela Quarles (Audiobook) Narrated by: Mary Jane Wells Series: Must Love #1 3.5 stars - I am always up for a well written time travel romance. I love the awkward and unique moments that happen when one is not in their normal time period. I also love seeing how the author will create a happily ever after for these time crossed lovers. This book had both those things, plus some amusing parts and some really nice, -butterflies in the tummy- attraction. The only downfall for me, was that the story seemed to take a bit to get going, but once it had, I didn’t want to put it down. I look forward to reading the rest of the series! I have never read any books by Ms. Quarles and honestly just chose this one due to the fact that Mary Jane Wells was narrating. She is a favourite of mine and with this story, she didn’t disappoint. She has a variety of voices and puts so much emotion and charisma in her narrations, that it just brings the stories to life. Well done! ~Paragraphs and Petticoats~

A delightful historical time travel romance and a deliciously fun start to the series!!!! If only she had lived back then... experienced a real ball... not this play-acting. "Wouldn't that be amazing to truly be at this ball in 1834?" she whispered. The silver under her thumb flared with heat. The room spun. The air, colors and sounds muted as if she was inside an abstract color painting. MUST LOVE BREECHES by Angela Quarles is a delightful historical time travel romance and a deliciously fun start to the author's Must Love Time Travel series. It is the story of twenty-nine-year-old Isabelle Rochon and the ‘Vicious Viscount’ Lord Phineas Montagu. Isabelle is in modern-day London vying for an internship at the British museum and trying to get her life back on track after a failed relationship and losing her family. While attending a historical reenactment ball, she is swept back in time to 1834 and discovered by Lord Byron’s daughter who then introduces her to the Lord Montagu, a renowned rake. At first, Isabelle is in denial believing everyone is taking the reenactment too seriously. But, she soon starts to realize that there are too many differences from the coat-check to the fact that all of her co-workers are nowhere to be found. As Isabelle finally comes to the conclusion that a pre-Victorian silver card case is the instrument responsible for her time travel. Unfortunately, it is soon stolen from her. Hence, her attention turns to retrieving her case so she can return to her time where she feels that she needs to go. Along the way, she gets to meet some of the famous historical characters she is so intrigued with at the museum, including Ada Byron, soon to be Ada Byron Lovelace, the legitimate daughter of the infamous Lord Byron, and Charles Babbage, the inventor of the Difference Engine. Lord Montagu has created his persona of a rake of the worst kind as a tool to seek revenge against those responsible for his sister’s untimely death. To continue with his deception, he needs to make plans to marry and he decides that Isabelle would make the perfect fake fiancée. She agrees in exchange for his protection and his assistance in finding her missing card case. Each finds themselves in a pickle. Isabelle can’t give in to her growing attraction to Lord Montagu because she needs to return to her own time. Lord Montagu can’t get involved with her because she’s only his pretend fiancée. Their romance is yummy steamy and the dialogue is greatly entertaining. Even though I knew this wasn’t real, it was written so well that it seemed realistic and I loved it! Add in additional stunning twists and turns and I just couldn’t stop listening! I love a good time-travel romance and this one hit all the right notes for me. It was well-written and well-paced with convincing characters. I can’t wait to listen to more of Ms. Quarles’ books in her Must Love Time Travel series. If you enjoy time travel romances, I would highly recommend that you take a ride back in time with Must Love Breeches! It’s utterly charming! I received a free copy of this ebook from InstaFreebie in exchange for my honest review. While attending an early 1800s-themed ball, Isabelle Rochon is accidentally transported back to 1830s London. As a history buff, she is thrilled and fascinated to observe life as it really was, but because she is competing for a promotion at work, she is anxious to return to her own time. Unfortunately, the card case she believes made her time travel possible has been stolen. Lord Phineas Montagu, a handsome and mysterious man meets the night of the ball, agrees to help her track down the thief in exchange for her posing as his fiancée in a bid to stave off the marriage-minded mamas and restore a degree of respectability to his somewhat tarnished reputation. But what happens when their fake courtship sparks a real flame? Will the notorious rake be ready to take a wife in truth? Will Isabelle give up the successful career she has worked so hard to build and her family in her own time to remain with Lord Momtagu? Thus delightful story is full of witty dialogue and hilarious and fresh takes on the fish-out-of-water theme so integral to good time travel novels. The incorporation of Montagu's revenge story and the reactions of other people who suspect Isabelle is a time traveler adds a lot of action to keep the plot exciting and unpredictable. Isabelle's persistent use of modern speech patterns highlights her difficulty fitting in to a time not her own, and the attention to detail in noting differences a time traveler would struggle to adjust to makes Isabelle's story more compelling. This is a fun read, and I am looking forward to Must Love Chainmail!

If not for the audiobook, I would not have picked this book up. It was a fun romantic tale that reads more like a historical romance than a time travel. It reminds me of the movie Kate & Leopold, the tone and romance is there. However, a bit more spice. Which is what the cover represents. Which is one of the reasons I haven't picked up the book. However, being a local author whom I know has talent, I've always been curious to how good the book is. It is good. The narrator for the audio was well done, and the story well crafted. I will most likely listen to further audio books from this author.

It was very enjoyable, except for the reference to 1944 and 1973 in the epilogue. Her cellphone and her slang would have been indicative of someone from the 21st century.

One of the better books i have read recently. I took a chance on this author because i love reading time travel stories. The only thing that sometimes slightly bothered me (and keep in mind that i am picky) was the intro or segwe (is that how you spell that?---most likely not, oh well) into some of the dialogue between Isabelle and Ada. It was a bit cheesy at times or maybe just a bit unbelievable. However, that being said, it was a good story and i liked the relationship between Isabelle and Phineas. Took a while for the first kiss, but who am I to complain.

I love the era that it is set in. A time when the simple things were what mattered. I live the modern twist on the story with the heroine being from the future. I was sucked in from the very beginning. I am now starting the second book...super excited!

LibraryThing Book Review Isabelle Rochon loves working at British Museum. She especially loves reenactment ball. Isabelle discovers that the current hottie she's lusting after is a complete and utter dawg. Isabelle loves silver card case she found and journal. Isabelle is using the silver card case when she suddenly ends up in 1834. Isabelle makes the acquaintance of Ada Bryon Lovelace and Lord  Phineas Montagu. Isabelle can't believe she's back in time yet she must face facts as there are. The silver card case has been stolen and showing no signs of being found at this point. Lord Montagu is strangely attracted to Miss Rochon but he can't really afford distractions while seeking revenge. Lord Montagu is finding that his cleverly crafted ruse causing problems that he hadn't foreseen. Isabelle is also attracted to Lord Montagu but unsure if you can trust this feeling entirely. Will Lord Montagu get his revenge? Will Isabelle get back to her own time? Can Isabelle trust her feelings? Your answers await you in Must Love Breeches:A Time Travel Romance. I'm always intrigued by time travel romances. Ms. Quarles has certainly created a wonderful universe. I loved the characters and story! I thought her characters were real, honest, flawed, and compelling. I thought the story was intriguing, compelling, and did not want to put it down kind of book. I look forward to more reading adventures in the future with this author.
