So he does what any laird would do-he lies to the king. The last thing Ruairi expects is a beautiful English governess to appear on his doorstep.

Lady Ravenna Walsingham is a seasoned spy who is sent to the savage Highlands to uncover a nefarious plot against the Crown. Playing the part of an English governess-a job easier said than done-she infiltrates the home of Laird Sutherland, a suspected conspirator.

Ravenna soon discovers that the only real threat Sutherland poses is to her heart. But will the proud Highland laird ever forgive her when he discovers the woman he loves in an English spy?

"He lowered his head and brushed a soft kiss to her forehead. "A rose...for the bonniest lass who ever graced the Highlands.'"

Absolutely a wonderful book. Highly recommend to all readers of Scottish romance and  historical romance. Hooked me right away. Victoria Roberts tells a story that you just can't let go of.  So I didn't, and read through the night until the book was finished.  I loved that Ravenna was a strong female character and felt that she and Ruari were perfect together. I don't want to give you any spoilers, You just have to read their story - it will keep you wanting more. Thank you Victoria for taking me for a little ride into the Highlands. The Gaelic was so great.

MY HIGHLAND SPY by Victoria Roberts is an awesome Scottish Medieval Historical Romance. #1 in the new and exciting “Highland Spies” series. What a beginning! Once again, Ms. Roberts has shown readers her expertise in anything and everything Scottish. Fast paced with plenty of adventure, action, emotion and romance. I did not want to stop reading once I got started. With betrayal, intrigue, romance, and sensuality, you do not want to miss this exciting Scottish read. I absolutely loved it from beginning to the very last page and beyond. The characters leave you in awe. The storyline is beautifully written with Highland intrigue and Scottish romance. A must for anyone who enjoys Scottish Highlanders, Warriors, and romance. I can hardly wait for the next installment. *Received for an honest review from the author, and publisher* Rating: 4.5 Heat rating: Hot Reviewed by: AprilR, courtesy of My Book Addiction and More

I was tricked into buying this book because Hannah Howell gave it a good review and I know her work is excellent quality. The plot line is good, it's a fun story, but it is written -- I kid you not -- like a 17 year old girl. Leaping from emotion to emotion like a cat on a hot sidewalk. Reading it is like getting whiplash. Do NOT recommend this book. I'm guessing Hannah Howell is a personal friend or relative to have given such a glowing review to such a poorly written book.

Ruairi hates the English; Ravenna is English – not the sounds of a perfect match. But this funny, sweet, and maddening tale is well worth the read. For me, it was the introduction to a new and fabulous author. It is difficult to read this story and not absolutely love the secondary characters, too – the story would not have been the same without Fagan, Ian, Torquil, and, of course, Angus. This is a great story of forgiveness and healing, and a sweet, sweet love story. And Grace is a hoot.

Absolutely fell in love with Ravenna and Ruari. Two different backgrounds, but perfect for each other. I love that Ravenna is a spy who know's how to snoop around and get her job done. But going to Scotland made her strong walls collapse after falling in love with a Highland who was rugged and strong. I love the whole plot of Victoria's book. Love that Ravenna was a strong, independent women who didn't let anyone get in her way. She was trained like a man and was not ashamed of it. She was ladylike when she needed to be and she was rugged and tough when work needed to be done. I loved that Gaelic was used throughout the book even though I couldn't pronounce it. It gave me a taste of what I would be looking forward too when I go to Scotland and find myself a Highland. Ruari was tough but also deep down was loving and caring father. He stood up for what he felt even after learning of who Ravenna really was. I couldn't let my guard down every time Angus came along in the book. I would be freaking out too. A wolf as a pet, that is crazy. Torquil is such a lovely boy who loves the outdoors. My heart was broken when Torquil had that accident. Was so happy he made it through and Agnus. You find love in unexpected places and with the person that you would have never considered. I do have to say I love this book cover, its delightful. You don't want to miss this book. Highly recommended.

I haven't read a Victoria Roberts novel in a while and now I remember why!! Once I start reading them I don't want to stop! Her characters are so great you just want to deep reading and see just how they get to their happily ever after. That's exactly the case with Ruairi and Rowenna. Once Rowenna arrives at Ruairi's castle and the sparks started to fly I knew I wouldn't be going to bed early. Victoria Robert's characters are so like able and real, even the secondary characters. Even Angus the dog had me crying at one point!. The plot has just enough drama to keep the story page turningly (is that even a word?) interesting. Drama which is balanced perfectly with humor that has you laughing right along with the characters. That's what I like, to get lost in a story and feel like you are there. Ms. Roberts creates that feeling in her books. The only downside was that there wasn't an epilogue. I would have liked to see a couple of the characters reunited and did Rowenna and Angus ever become friends? Hoping there is a sequel to the story...maybe for Fagan? All in all a great book I would recommend to anyone who loves a great love story. * I received a complementary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Review Courtesy of April Hollingworth The story of Ravenna and Ruairi is quite beautiful. Plagued with danger and intrigue, the thought of loving someone is not what either of them wants. Ruairi is determined to protect his son and people, and has no time to become involved with a woman let alone an English woman. Ravenna comes to care for Ruairi and his son, something she never expected. She sees how honorable and brave Ruairi is, braver than most Englishmen she has met. I must admit, I did love this story and can’t wait to read more of Victoria Roberts wonderful books. The Review: Laird Ruairi Sutherland won’t bow down to the English Crown. After all he’s a Scotsman through and through. He refuses to send away his only son to be educated by the English, and appear in Edinburgh to pay homage to a liege who has no respect for Scotland. So he does what’s best for his son and people, he lies to his King. What he doesn’t expect though is a beautiful English governess to land on his doorstep. Lady Ravenna Walsingham is not a governess. She is in fact a seasoned spy for the English Crown. Sent to the savage Highlands, to uncover a nefarious plot against the Crown. Playing the part of an English governess is easier said than done, especially when infiltrating the home of Laird Sutherland, an expected conspirator. But nothing is as it appears and the handsome Scot proves more dangerous to Ravenna’s heart than country. 4.5 Stars Victoria Roberts has written another great story! My Highland Spy is the first book in her next series called Highland Spy and it features Lady Ravenna Walsingham and Laird Ruairie Sutherland.  What made the story unique for me is that Ravenna is the spy. When reading historicals, I love to read where the women are strong-willed, smart and witty. Ravenna meets all of that and more! How daring for her to be an English spy and go undercover in the Highlands as a governess.  Up until now she’s been carrying on her father’s legacy by spying for England while raising her younger sisters.  This new assignment takes her into Scottish territory to help teach Torquil, Ruairie’s son.   As much as I admired Ravenna’s character, Rauirie was tops in my book. It is obvious he loves his son and he has a great capacity to love. He’s just leery of trusting another woman especially after his first wife who died in a tragic accident.   Throughout the story Ravenna struggles between her duty to England and her growing attraction to Rauirie.  It was a bit more liberating of a story since Ravenna was slightly older and not some young virgin.  It was definitely hot read when they act on their attraction! The story is filled with great humor which I loved!  Rauirie opts to pretend he doesn’t understand English which leads to several funny moments. The secondary characters, especially Torquil and Fagan add a great deal to the book.  The story isn’t all laughs however as the issue with her being a spy has to be dealt with as well as some other tragedies take place.  It isn’t a dark, heavy book like other Highlander stories but very much a romance.   The ending was especially romantic which made me very happy! This is a must read for all Highlander romance fans and another great story by Victoria!

This is book 1 in the Highland Spies series. Lady Ravenna Walsingham is a spy for the crown. Her newest assignment is to go to the Highlands and act as a governess for Laird Sutherland. While there she is to see if Sutherland is planning anything against the crown. Ruairi Sutherland is not about to send his only son to learn English. So when the the king sends a governess to do the job, he feigns ignorance of knowing the language himself to see what she is up to. He soons find himself intrigued with the English woman and can't keep himself from letting her know that he understands her. As Ravenna spends more time with Ruairi and his son, she can't help but fall in love with both of them. But what happens when he finds out that she was spent to spy on him? This was a great story. I loved that there was a female spy that we followed to Scotland. It definitely put her at a disadvantage not knowing the language. I fell in love with Ruairi and his son just as Ravenna did. Roberts did a great job of combining a love story, a mystery and history of Scotland into this story. The only reason I rated this a 4 instead of a 5 was that I thought some of the writing was lacking. It was definitely not a strong as a lot of the other writers I read. There were lots of secondary characters that I hope get their story told and I can't wait for the next book in the series. Thanks go to Sourcebooks via NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.

DEFINATE MUST READ HIGHLANDER TREAT First I must say Victoria Roberts is one of my favorite, keeper shelf authors. As well as any of her prior books, this new release did not let me down or disappoint in any way whatsoever! A fantastic first for a new series, and I am very glad the series will continue. After reading this first I wanted to immediately pick up the next one. The heroine is actually an independent, feisty English spy for the crown and must pose as a governess by orders of the king to determine if the laird of a particular clan is involved in activities against the crown. The hero is a highland laird who wants to hang onto and pass Scottish traditions down through generations. After all, they are Scottish Highlanders, why do they need to know English cultures. The heroine also has three younger sisters, of which one is as feisty as the heroine. The laird is a widower with a young son and cares deeply for his clan and the people he is responsible for. Mystery, sexy passionate romance, laughter, tears, drama, and action make this book a one sit read. Not actually knowing what exactly to expect but being very surprised when actually meeting the laird, imagine what the heroine might say in response to being very attracted to him, if she thinks the laird can’t speak and doesn’t understand the English language. And the Laird is so surprised by her actual appearance he is speechless when he sets eyes on her, which is why she believes he doesn’t understand anything she says. Oh my goodness! You find yourself talking to them both trying to guide them on the right track. There are also other twists and turns and unexpected actions throughout the book. The relationship that grows between the heroine and her student, the laird’s son, is heartwarming and filled with humor and will pull at your heart. Other secondary characters, such as the heroine’s sister and the laird’s close friends he has known all his life and considers as brothers, also keep the story rolling and the reader can’t help but hope they get to read their story as well. Once you begin reading you are captured and do not want to put the book down as there is a pull to keep reading through to the last page. I can’t say enough about the book. This is one I will pick up to reread again and again. I highly recommend anything Victoria Roberts has written. She will be put on my auto-buy list of authors.

This is the first book in Victoria Roberts’ Highland Spies series, and I cannot wait to see what she has planned for the next book. Many Highland Lairds that do not want to follow the King of England, so what better way to find out if one specific laird is set to rival against him than to send his best spy to discover if this man is plotting against the king? Oh yeah, did I mention that the spy is a woman masquerading as a governess for his son? This is a must read for anyone who loves an historical romance that is set it Scotland. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

What a bewitching novel! Court intrigue melds with romance in an unforgettable manner. Roberts’ descriptions make this story come to life in a vivid way. You can’t help but picture the amazing scenery surrounding the characters. She transports you back in time, where you fall in love with her story, her characters, and the land. The novel itself was well thought out & edited. The storyline was fascinating. Roberts had me on edge throughout.  I quite enjoyed the cast of characters in this novel. The preconceptions held by the main characters added to the drama of the tale, while also adding some comedy to their interactions. The intensely personal conversations between the main characters really allows you to get to know them. The supporting cast was just as approachable. I found myself quite enamoured with many of these individuals. The way that Roberts’ developed their backgrounds as well as their thoughts and feelings on certain events made them all the more real This well written story full of court intrigue, adventure, and romance was next to impossible to put down. I would recommend it to those looking for a healthy dose of highland romance.  Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

Great New Series!! Victoria has done it again with another fantastic book! I was hooked from the first page until the last page in this book.  Lady Ravenna Walsingham is a spy for the Crown, she is being sent by the Crown to pose as an English governess to Scotland to teach Laird Ruairi Sutherland’s son how to read and speak English. Ravenna must found out the truth if Laird Ruairi is plotting against the Crown. However, Ravenna was not prepared for the attraction she felt for Laird Ruairi, which is making it difficult to do the job she was sent to do. I could not put this book down and stayed up all night reading it and I was not disappointed. This book has it all, humor, mystery, suspense, and sexy Scottish men in kilts, oh my! I LOVED all of the characters in this book, and cannot wait for the next book in this series!! A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
