Grab the tissues. This story is both heart wrenching and happy at the same time. As I started reading it, I felt sorry for Megan. She had some horrible things happen to her. But then she was able to get out of that situation and found a couple who took pity on her. Then she meets the new cook, Nik. And things take a turn for the better, and worse. Devon Ashley puts us in a story that is scarily similar to what has happened to many girls when they are abducted. This book isn't for the faint of heart, and it does have strong situations that would not be fit for the young adult. It's classified as New Adult, becuase the main character is 19 at the "present" time in the book. But her story starts when she was just 17. This book is one of those that I feel people will either appreciate or hate. Maybe it's becuase I have seen too much evil to not hate this book, becuase I thought it was amazing, and the strength alone that Devon Ashley would have to have in writing it. If authors only wrote things that were easy and not controversal, then there wouldn't be many good books out there. But, like I said, if you are not of the faint of heart, then I strongly suggest you pick up this book!

This was really a difficult book to read. It has some pretty dark themes going on here, it's violent and it's quite graphic, sexually speaking. That's not anything bad, but it is something that the average reader should be aware of. But it made the book good. It made you keep reading because you just had to know what was going to happen. That being said, I did have a bit of a hard time connecting with Megan. Her character was standoffish and it really read that way. Now, this could be totally intentional by the author. Maybe she wanted the reader to feel disconnected, dejected, alone and helpless. If it was intentional, she did a great job of it ... if it wasn't intended ... then it turned into an amazing coincidence. About a quarter of the way through the book, I really started to view things like Megan and I think that a big part of that was kind of not connecting with her in the beginning. I loved seeing the back and forth between Megan an Nickolas. It was fun and sweet and completely unsuspecting. But let me just tell you, their shared sorrow will eat away at the center of your being. Their relationship is definitely something to experience. To be completely honest, I know that this is the first book in a series ... I don't know if I can read the next one. This first one just ripped me apart. I think if I step away from it for a few months, I'll be able to pick up the next installment of their relationship but at this point, I'm going to have to let myself decompress a little bit.

Megan escaped the fire with burns on her body and constantly looking over her shoulder for him. She thought fleeing to a small town would keep her safe. Head down. Stay off the radar. Then Nick shows up. He's the new cook with her on the night shift at the diner and everything starts to change. She's not Claire. They're from different states and Claire's parents are still alive. Megan's died in a car accident. The missing person flyer has a picture of Claire. And she looks a lot like Megan. But it's not her. She's not Claire. Wow. There's really no other way to describe this book other There was nothing about this book that I didn't like. The author keeps you guessing throughout the whole book. You didn't know what was going to happen until it happened. There were parts of the book written with such intense suspense, I felt like I was watching a movie. Nothing is given away throughout and this was written superbly well. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must get to book 2. And Miss Devon Ashley, when you need another reviewer for book 3, let me know, I'm happy to help and extremely anxious to see how this series ends. I'd tell you to hurry with book 3, but you can't rush a good thing **I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review**

My heart went out to Megan, Nearly Broken is such an emotional roller coaster. One minute your crying for Megan, the next your laughing because of Nick and then you're angry at the asshats who continue to ruin their lives. Nick and Megan are such a cute couple to read about and their feelings for another makes your heart swell. I loved reading Nearly Broken, I think this has become my fave from Devon Ashley, she really out did herself. She really has a way of making you fall for the characters. I can't wait to see what she has in store for the sequel. Having read most of Devon's books I can surely say that you wont be disappointed reading any of them, however, I highly recommend you read this as you will be in a trance from beginning to end.

Wow. ...W.T.F... I can not believe what I just read. Nearly Broken has haunted my dreams and has stayed with me for days. This has been a complete mind f**k. Even with a few days to think on this, I'm still having a difficult time articulating my emotions. First let me say that Nearly Broken involves subjects involving kidnapping, rape, human trafficking, physical abuse. If you do not believe you can handle this please do not read. I went into Nearly Broken believing it was going to be lighter than it was due to the cover being so innocent looking. Two years, five months, twelve days since Claire went missing. Six months before me. Had I been here replacement. Nearly Broken is told from the POV of Megan Smith. Megan is broken and scared beyond belief. Constantly looking over her shoulder. Careful not to allow anyone to get too close to her. Gradually she lets her guard down and start to have a sense of safety after a new cook name Nick comes into town. Almost immediately these two are drawn to each other forming a natural bond. Nick has a secret of his own when it comes to Megan. Looking back it explained his need to protect to protect her. Ms. Ashley has surprised me with this heart racing, dark, suspenseful read. I stayed on the edge of my seat the entire time. Just when I was becoming wrapped up in Megan's safe world... Wham! Bam! Pow! The complete mind f**k moment comes in to junk punch me. Leaving me absolutely floored. Nearly Broken is a sure read for bookies who enjoyed C.J. Roberts The Dark Duet series and tend to walk on the dark side. The End. But really, just another beginning... *Thank you, gracias, merci to the author/ publisher for providing me an arc copy via YA Bound Book Tours in exchange for my honest opinion** Follow my Reviews at shawnasurvey dot blogspot dot com

WHAT DID I THINK: 3.5 out of 5 Stars; I finished this book at night right before bed. Not sure if that was a wise choice since I went to bed thinking about the characters and woke up thinking about them. I got comfortable with everything that was happening in the middle of the book and then at 83% something happened that made me feel ill, but I could not stop reading. I did put the book down at about 90% thinking that I would just finish it the next day, but I had to know what was going to happen. It was a Catch 22. I could not fall asleep because I had to know what was going to happen and then I could not fall sleep because I thought about what did happen. This book is dark and covers some very disturbing issues. This book may not be for everyone. Did I feel connected to the characters? Megan what she went through, my heart went out to her. Will things ever be okay? Still thinking about her. Nick: My heart not only went out for Megan but for Nick too. He is going through a lot. Still thinking about him too. Pace of the story: Good. I did not think the story dragged in the beginning. Nick and Megan met. You understand Megan and her relationships and fears right from the beginning. Megan becomes comfortable with Nick and tells him early in their relationship what her situation was and what she was going through. Positives: I loved the beginning of the book. A simple story of a waitress who has a past that she is trying to hide from so it never happens again. Then a new cook starts working in the diner and a romance begins to develop between the two. However, that is not the only thing that happens in the book. The story takes a turn. A turn I should have seen coming, but didn’t. Negatives: I don’t know if the middle dragged for me or that I knew something big was going to happen and I was just anxious to get there. It was probably the latter. Let me just say that I did not see what happened later coming. I knew it was going to be something big, but I thought it was going to be something entirely different. Bottom line: It was a story that I know I will be thinking about for a couple of days. This is a dark emotional read that involves sex trafficking. However, it is a book about strength and love. I think the story stopped the way it was supposed to. Now I am going to be waiting for a sequel. I am glad I read this one. Book Format Read: A copy was provided in exchange for an honest review. Thank you.

The synopsis for Nearly Broken is vague, and I love that. As long as I know what sort of book to expect, I am okay with going into it blind. This works particularly well when the books is a Romantic Suspense. Having said that, I am terrified of spoiling Nearly Broken, because the unveiling of the clues about the main character Megan's life, and that of Claire's, is what made this book so intriguing for me. To keep from dealing spoilers, this review will be vague. Nearly Broken was a well-written, mysterious and surprising story about a young woman who's life is not what it seems. From the moment I met Megan, I could tell that something was off about her life. It's clear right away that she is in hiding, but from who and why is not clear. Soon enough, new people come into Megan's life, the mystery of her past and identity begins to unfold, a new life opens up, and devastation follows. As a character, Megan wasn't an open book. She doesn't lay all of her life story out in the narrative, it's more guarded. Having the past she does, it's very easy to understand why she's a mystery. I loved how the author slowly let Megan's past come to light. Once it did, I was shocked. I expected a heartbreaking past, but nothing like what I got. I know a lot of reviewers (myself included sometimes) mention our love for strong for strong heroines, those who kick butt and just keep moving forward no matter what. But that's not exactly realistic, in my opinion, and it doesn't make the character human with the wide range of emotions we feel in terrible situations. Megan is a character who had every right to feel devastated, to scream, cry, and break down. And she did that sometimes. Then she would pull herself up and move on as best she could. But even though she went forward bravely, that doesn't mean she (and any other character) does not reserve the right to become overwhelmed at times. My point is, healing is a process, sometimes one that never ends, and in my opinion the author did a responsible job of writing this character who'd gone through such horror, and did the best she could every day. Nick, the man who comes into Megan's life, is a little bit harder to talk about without spoiling. Let me just say that this man was a beautiful example of love, understanding, devotion, and I adored his every moment in Nearly Broken. Nearly Broken is a book that I found enlightening and to be a very worthwhile story in today's society. And I will also say that it became difficult to read at times. There is a warning in the synopsis that mentions disturbing situations, and they are. I do feel that the author handled these situations very realistically and responsibly and not in an explicit manner, but just want to point out this out for those who need to avoid. Nearly Broken is a story filled with mystery and suspense, but also a beautiful love story. I recommend it to anyone looking for an intriguing story that will leave you hanging on until the end.

Just finishing Nearly Broken and I'm hoping that this review will be coherent because right now my thoughts are everywhere. This book is seriously intense and heartbreaking. Knowing that so much of this book really happens to children and women all over the world just infuriates me and makes my heart literally ache.  Nearly Broken while highly disturbing is wonderfully written. Devon Ashley does an amazing job of making you feel. I was instantly drawn into the story because at first you don't know what has happened to Megan. You just know that whatever it was it wasn't good.  Once Nick enters the story Megan starts to open up a little and he really brings out a more playful side of her. When you finally find out who Nick really is and what has happened to Megan, well that is when your heart starts to break for her.  I highly recommend Nearly Broken not just because it is a great book but I also think it could be an amazing tool for raising awareness. (being kind of vague, I know but I hate spoilers)

Nearly Broken. You have ripped my heart out. This is not your usual butterflies and rainbows read. I know, I’ve said that in the past, right? But seriously. This. Is. Dark. It’s definitely a romantic suspense that kept me until the very last page. And I wanted more.Megan Smith is waitressing in a small town and trying to stay under the radar. She has survived something tragic. She is numb to life and does not want to get close to anyone. That is, until Nikolas Ellis shows up as the new cook at the restaurant. The walls she has built around herself seem to crumble around Nick. As her secret is revealed, she learns so much more. There were things in this book that unfolded that I didn’t see coming.  So many twists and turns and just when you think everything is normal, there’s another twist. I seriously could not put this book down. Nick Ellis. You are dreamy. Let me count the ways. Sigh. He has definitely worked his way up on my book boyfriend list. I loved his character in the story. Megan. Seriously one of the strongest females I’ve ever read about in my life. Like I said, this is a dark story. Some things are offensive and are not for the light hearted, however the author wrote an amazing story, and if you are a fan of romance and suspense, this is a MUST read! This book was nothing like I expected, and I love when that happens! It was gut-wrenching and I felt every emotion while reading it. I connected to every character throughout this story.  I think the author brought to light a subject that is not talked about enough, even though it happens every single day.I’ll be honest that I was worried about writing my review. I was not sure how to put in to words how much I enjoyed this book.  I want everyone that reads this review that although dark, this book is worth it. Stop second guessing and read it!

I loved this touching & heartbreaking story. First time reading this author and would read more. This book didn't end on a cliffhanger, seems more could be told. I hope there is a 2nd book. Could be a hard subject matter for some, but is a harsh reality in the world. A must read!!!

This is the first review I am writing that I do not know what to say in fear of giving away too much in this amazing book. I want to keep it short and simple, but do know this is a MUST READ book. I spent my entire Sunday reading the book without putting it down because I just had to know the ending for Megan. I needed her to have a happy ending, somehow… Be warned, Nearly Broken is a deeply emotional, disturbing book that will take your mind to places you never want to go. It is a tough read due to the circumstances and disturbing scenes of kidnapping, rape, and sex trafficking. With that said, it is also a phenomenal story about a brave girl and a sweet romance that really should be the main focus of the book in my opinion because love concurs all. I found myself completely falling head over heels in love with the character of Nick. He is one of the sweetest men I have ever read in a book. He is simply a good, caring man who took his love for his girlfriend to a whole new level. I loved the character of Megan but Nick was the breakout star in the book to me. “Megan, all you need to know is that the day I met you, I knew right then and there that you were the girl for me, and that I was going to do everything possible to spend the rest of my life with you.”-Nick Devon Ashley is a terrific author who took Nearly Broken in so many different directions I did not know what to expect next. She is a brilliant writer who has earned a new fan. I loved every single thing about this book from beginning to end. Nearly Broken is told entirely in Megan’s point of view. You read of her past before everything happened, to the pain she endured, the love she has with Nick to what she goes through later on in the book. I cried for Megan, I really had tears. Sex trafficking is a real issue that happens EVERYWHERE, even in the United States, like it did in this book and it makes it even harder to read about knowing it is a real issue. Bravo to Ms. Ashley for being able to write a story with such a controversial topic and not being afraid. I know this book might scare off readers with such a disturbing topic but I really hope readers will give it a chance because underneath it all is a story of strength and love. With as many “rough” scenes there are in the book there are just as many that will warm your heart and you might just fall in love with Nick too. “I want to be with you forever, but we can’t move forward with that until you begin to heal yourself.”-Nick I cannot wait for the next book in the series. Megan’s story is far from being over. I give Nearly Broken 5 GIANT stars. Thank you so much to the author Devon Ashley for providing me an ARC of Nearly Broken.
