About the Author

Sir James Richard Thursfield (1840-1923), a British naval historian, was the first editor of the Times Literary Supplement. His journalistic writings include The Navy and the Nation (1897), Nelson and Other Naval Studies (1909), and Naval Warfare (1913). He held a fellowship at Jesus College, Oxford from 1864-1881 and was knighted in 1920.
