This was an entertaining, well-written book. Nero, who aspires to be an astrologer in the royal court of Incendium, travels to the capital city with an urgent reading. He is not allowed to present his tidings in time and is assigned to pursue the dragon princess, who is set on taking vengeance on her errant groom-to-be. Then he meets the princess Peri... This is a short story that is part of the Dragons of Incendium series. I can't wait to read the next book! Copy gifted by the Publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This is a novella but was written so well it feels like a full book. I really enjoyed the ride along side Nero. I received a copy of the book in exchange for a HONEST review!

A very short, about 34 pages, in which we see how things began with the Royal House of Incendium. Drakina, who we met in book one (Wyvern's Mate), is left at the alter in front of all invited guests and dignitaries. Nero has arrived in order to give his prophecy in hopes of stopping this event, but because he is not an officially trained astrologer, he is turned away. As he leaves the palace, his prophecy comes to pass and he is sent to bare witness to Princess Drakina's vengeance against her missing groom. In so doing he is welcomed into the inner circle of the royal family. Book received in exchange for an honest review.

Through the eyes of a wannabe astrologer, Nero, an event that happened before "Wyvern's Mate" is clarified and explained. It is perfectly logical to read after "Mate" as the event was mentioned as a defining moment for Princess Drakina in that book. We get the back story of exactly why Princess Drakina reacted as she did when she was left at the altar by her cowardly betrothed. It also sets up the story of one of Drakina's 11 sisters as well as the astrologer Nero. This novella is, as is always the case with Ms. Cooke, beautifully written, and immediately draws the reader into the story. Copy gifted by the Publisher in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 stars--NERO’S DREAM is the second installment (and novella) in Deborah Cooke’s adult DRAGONS OF INCENDIUM paranormal/fantasy series focusing on the twelve dragon shifter princesses of Incendium. This is astrologer Nero’s story line. SOME BACKGROUND: For fans of Cooke’s previous series about dragons, THE DRAGONS OF INCENDIUM is NOT connected to, or a spinoff from, her best selling Dragonfire series. The current series focuses on female dragon shifters searching for their ‘HeartKeeper’-their mate- and the ‘Carrier of the Seed’ but the princes of Regalia are not necessarily the male that calls to the princesses hearts. The world building reveals the potential doom and fallout if no royal heir is to be conceived, and the possible destruction of two planets pulled into the heat of their sun. Told from third person perspective (Nero) NERO’S DREAM follows ‘independent’ astrologer Nero as he is tasked with revealing the truth about the message he has read in the stars. Nero is not a member of the Royal court astrologers, and has never been formally trained but our hero finds himself on a journey to forewarn the Royal family about the impending disaster forecasted by the stars. When Nero’s prophecies come to reality our hero is offered a position within the Royal court but not before Nero finds himself attracted to the youngest Princess Pericula or Peri. Perhaps there is romance building for Nero and Peri. NERO’S DREAM is a short story that runs parallel to the events of book one-Wyvern’s Mate-revealing some of the background information not previously explored in the story. I recommend reading the series in order as each subsequent novella and short story builds upon the events of the previous book or runs parallel to the current time line. Deborah Cooke’s world building is colorful as the author pulls the reader into the fantastic; the imaginative journey between planets borders on the sci-fi; the romance is sweet and fated. We learn a little bit more about the politics of Incendium, the power of a dragon when spurned by a potential mate.

Nero's Dream is part one of I don't know how many parts. It is a short story that falls between book one and book two and cleverly gives you the back story of book one, Wyvern's Mate. If you have an ounce of curiosity in your being you will want to read the next part and find out what happens to the intrepid astrologer Nero, our hero. The story does not expressly identify a heroine but suggests one of the royal daughters might be the one. Called book 1.5 it is telling two stories at once. The Dragons of Incendium is a series telling the stories of the royal family of Incendium. A very cleverly created world of dragon shifters and a family of twelve daughters needing mates or as the story teller calls them - their Heart Keeper. I look forward to the rest of the series and can't wait to see what new and exciting wonders will be added to this fantasy world. Copy gifted by publisher in exchange for an honest review.
