Overview

From New York Times, USA Today, and WSJ bestselling author Catherine Bybee comes the first novel in the delicious Not Quite series.

Waitress and single mom Jessica “Jessie” Mann is practical to a fault. Even if she had time to date, which she doesn’t, she’d be determined to provide her son with a more secure upbringing than the one she had—and that would mean a husband with big bucks. When Jack Morrison—a sexy-as-sin, seemingly broke customer with a cowboy hat and a seductive grin—tries to flirt with her, she shoots him down. She doubts a carefree dreamer like Jack can provide the financial stability she needs. Yet with Christmas just weeks away, and Jessie not wanting to spend it alone, the charming Texan is proving hard to resist.

As the heir to the Morrison luxury hotel empire, Jack is used to being fawned over. But Jack needs someone who will fall in love with him—not his wealth. He’s set his sights on Jessie, though her hardened heart just might get in the way…To be sure, he conceals his true identity and offers to help Jessie find the rich husband she seeks. But Jack’s daring charade may rob him of the holiday wish he wants most of all.…

My Review:*happy sigh* Another great book by Catherine Bybee. This is only the second I've read by her, but she is quickly establishing herself as a favorite contemporary romance author. I become completely immersed within the stories of her books and I love that. Seriously, I never even think about the fact that I am reading a book when I am reading one of her's. I simply become part of the story and don't want it to end.  That's some great writing there! The story line in this one isn't new... rich guy who hides his wealth to find a girl who likes him for who he really is... but Catherine Bybee did it so well. I loved these characters! Jessie is on the edge. She lives in a 2 bedroom apartment with her 5 yo son and her 21 yo sister. Her sister is in Nursing school and Jessie works nights at the local Denny's so that she or her sister is always around to care for her son. She grew up with a mother who was constantly falling in love with losers and Jessie, herself, hasn't had the best of luck choosing guys. This next time, she's determined she's going to choose a guy who isn't going to mooch off her for the rest of his life. Jack has had it with shallow arm-candy. He wants a girl to like him for who he is.... not for the size of his very hefty bank account. When he meets Jessie, he thinks he has to hide who he is, so he acts like he has a temporary holiday job at the local upscale motel (that he actually owns). Jessie sees him as someone a bit flakey... so she agrees to be friends with him... friends only, although Jack never hides the fact that he wants more.  I liked the way that this was all set up...*Jack's family who owns the upscale chain of motels and a ranch in Texas...I can't wait for his sister, Katie's story.*When Jack comes into the book, he's with his 3 best friends for a bachelor weekend in Vegas. I liked the friendship between these guys....and again look forward to seeing more of them.... especially Drew, after his heartbreak in this book.*I loved Jessie's son and sister and what they added to this story. * I loved that the book took place during Christmas. I truly wasn't expecting it to be a holiday read, but it made a GREAT one! This is book #1 in the Not Quite series...I am excited to read the rest of them because this was a great start!I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This is a great book with a real feel. Catherine has created well developed characters. I fell in love with Jessie (no, not because we share a name) and her fierce love for her son, Danny. Jack is the kind of guy we all want to magically take interest in us and rescue us from our boring lives. I loved the character arcs. This wasn't just another typical romance novel. Not that it isn't a romance novel. I just feel like Catherine spent more time focusing on building the story, developing the characters, and creating a great book than just thinking about the next steamy scene. I'd recommend this book for the romance lovers out there, but then also to those that enjoy a good read with a realer take on romance- not that I've ever heard of a millionaire randomly taking it on himself to woo over the Denny's waitress, but hey, it could happen.

Jessie Mann is a single mom. She's worked hard for everything she has.  She and her sister work to see her son Danny has all he needs.  Jessie keeps hoping someday her prince will arrive with enough money so she doesn't have to worry every day.  Until he does, she works at a waitress on the graveyard shift.      Jack Morrison is an heir to a luxury hotel empire.  He and his buddies are just back from a bachelor party to end all parties.  Jack has been wondering if he'll ever find a woman who loves him and not his back account. Then Jessie walks into his life.              This book is fantastic!  It's the first in the "Not Quite" series.  I can't wait to read the others.  The characters are well developed and fun to follow. The story one you'll enjoy again and again.  Tender, fun and the fairy tale ending is all you could ever want in a book.  You'll get hooked on this one from page one.      I found no issues.      I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because it's such a fantastic read.  ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~
