About the Author

Pat Zietlow Miller is the New York Times bestselling author of Be Kind. Her first book, Sophie’s Squash, received a Golden Kite Award, a Crystal Kite Award, a Charlotte Zolotow Honor, and an Ezra Jack Keats Honor. Paola Escobar is a graphic designer and illustrator from Colombia. As a child, she loved drawing the stories told by her grandmother, and it was her dream to become an illustrator for children’s books. Today, she is the illustrator of the award-winning Planting Stories: The Life of Librarian and Storyteller Pura Belpré as well as many other critically acclaimed picture books. She is proud to have illustrated stories that celebrate cultural diversity and champion unsung heroes. Paola lives in Bogotá, Colombia, with her husband and their dog, Flora.

Miller (What Can You Do with a Rock?) reminds readers that no one is ever too small to speak up in this invitation to community involvement. The world may seem like one in which “Big things get noticed. Tall buildings. Loud voices. Wide walls,” but the text urges kids to pay attention, instead, to nature, where “One snowflake starts a storm. And dandelion fuzz can cause a BIG SNEEZE.” Escobar’s (Digging for Words) digital vignettes bubble with optimistic energy, showing hopeful-faced kids of various abilities and skin tones building up organizing steam for an array of causes. The movement builds step by step, involving speaking with a friend “Or four. Or four hundred,” writing “Postcards. Letters.
