Several weeks ago, I had never heard of Old Crow Medicine Show (henceforth O.C.M.S). Then I saw their video of "Wagon Wheel" and I was hooked. This led to a live performance in Baltimore that I attended. Not since the Kingston Trio ran onto the stage at the old Carter Baron Theatre in D.C. have I felt such electricty. The standing room only crowd was elbow to elbow, but not caring. O.C.M.S. did three encores. Frontman, Ketch Secor, is a combination of Dylan, Springsteen, Mark O'Connor, and most importantly, Ketch himself. This group is brilliant, and I see them playing to stadiums in the future. This album is a winner, and everyone in the house knew all of the words to "Wagon Wheel".

I saw the Old Crow Medicine Show in concert last night. They were one of five acts on the bill and were anything but the headliners-- played only four songs. However,it was their CD I bought and since getting home last night and right now as I type, I've listened to it non-stop. They are part roots music, part jug band, and part alt-country. If you like music and don't need to claim a genre, this is a real treat. The only reason this got four stars instead of five, is that this is their first CD and I am expecting big things...

I was fortunate to have seen this band live at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN February 14, 2004. A must-have CD for music collections!

I heard this band some time ago on The Prairie Home Companion and liked them. I bought the disc and listen to it frequently. The ballads on it -- sad sad songs -- are especially good. They use some devices and phrases from Woody Guthrie, Huddy Ledbetter, Bob Dillon et alii, and it makes the songs timeless. I recommend this music to anyone who likes American folk music, accoustic blues, country rock, or classic country music. It's that good.
