I've made no secret for my love of the Wild Aces series so far, but On Broken Wings is the one that has stolen it for me. I’ve loved Alex “Easy” Rogers from the moment we met him in Fly With Me, and his harboured feelings for Dani Peterson plus all she has gone through, has seriously pulled on my heartstrings; all the build-up to their story was worth it. "...life’s too short for anything other than making the most of every single moment." My heart actually hurt reading this, for both Easy and Dani: for the fact that he is fighting his feelings towards the widow of one of his best friends whilst she has no idea that his love goes way deeper than that of friendship, for her loss and her determination at trying to carry on and find some kind of normality without her husband, and for her feeling torn between letting go of the past and looking to the future. But it's the support they give one another, the little things they do and the quieter moments with unspoken words which are really something else. "I’d crossed a line I’d sworn I would never breach, in doing so betraying a man who I respected and missed." This is simply a beautiful love story between two amazing people who deserve find happiness probably more than most. I absolutely adored them both for too many reasons to list. And, with an exquisite chemistry, they bring every emotion to the table: whilst my heart and tear ducts had a real workout, it held many moments that made me smile and sigh happily. "I’m happiest with my feet planted firmly on the ground. But my heart—It flies." Chanel Cleeton has created the perfect dynamic in this group of people, bringing her readers strong, smart heroines and men who have a real-presence, turn heads yet have huge hearts underneath those very sexy flight-suits and wear their hearts on their sleeves. And what has struck me is how relatable they all are. This series has been a complete joy from start to finish, is certainly one I'll re-read in the future and if Chanel Cleeton writes it, I'll read it. I can't recommend highly enough.

I knew this was going to be a doozy before I started. Dani has been grieving the death of her husband and Easy has been fighting his feelings for her since the day they first met, well before her husband died. He took such good care of Dani, even as he tried to see her only as a friend. The depiction of Dani's grief was spot on. It takes a lot of time for Dani to realize she might have more than friendly feelings for Easy, which stirs up feelings of guilt. My heart really went out to her as she mourned her loss and tried to figure out what her new normal might be. Cleeton managed to take one of my least favorite tropes and spun into something amazing. The way this brought Dani and Easy together was just everything. I loved both of these characters and I loved the good they saw in each other. Watching them fall in love, especially watching Dani have a second chance, was so lovely and inspiring. I wish Cleeton would keep this series going. The way she brought readers into the reality of Airforce life and what it can mean for relationships was educational and insightful and it makes me even more grateful for their service.

This review was written by Marie for a guest review post on Ever After Book Reviews blog: 5 Stars This. This is perfect. On Broken Wings is leaps and bounds by far the best book of this series. Simply amazing. It’s emotional, beautifully written and has brilliantly flawed characters with an intense and obvious chemistry. Ms. Cleeton, you truly outdid yourself here. The love story that was years in the making for our hero, Easy, is both heart-warming and heart-wrenching. The vulnerability of our heroine, Dani, creates a wonderful anticipation as we watch her evolve from the grieving widow into a confident and even stronger woman as she opens her broken heart yet again for a man that truly does love her. I could not put this book down. I started it and within a few hours, it was over. It was just that damn good. ***I read and reviewed a paperback copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***

4.25 stars--ON BROKEN WINGS is the third installment in Chanel Cleeton’s contemporary, adult WILD ACES erotic, military romance series focusing a group of U.S. Air Force fighter pilots known as the Wild Aces. This is fighter pilot Alex ‘Easy’ Rogers, and Wild Aces widow Dani Peterson’s story line. ON BROKEN WINGS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty although I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and history. Told from dual first person points of view (Dani and Easy) ON BROKEN WINGS is a friends to lovers romance focusing on widow Dani Peterson, and Wild Aces fighter pilot Alex ‘Easy’ Rogers. One year earlier Dani lost her husband, fighter pilot Michael ‘Joker’ Peterson to a jet crash in Alaska, while Easy lost his best friend and mentor. For years Easy has been in love with his best friend’s wife but he wasn’t the type of man to carry on an affair with a married woman. Following the death of Joker, Easy had a difficult time with his need to protect the woman he has always loved. As Dani prepares to sell her house, Easy offers to help with the repairs, and their struggling friendship begins to take on an air of sexual attraction. What ensues is the building relationship and love between Dani and Easy, and the battle between guilt and a happily ever after. The relationship between Easy and Dani is fraught with guilt and remorse. Easy doesn’t want to stain his friendship with his former mentor, and Dani is afraid that to fall in love again means forgetting about the man she lost. Easy is the epitome of the perfect hero-a passionate, heartwarming and emotional hero who struggles with his attraction to his late friend’s wife. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense. All of the previous story line couples and characters play secondary and supporting roles. We are witness to the birth of the next generation, and an epilogue that fast forwards the story line approximately one year. The world building continues to focus on the fighter pilots and their missions, and the men and women left behind. The ‘forbidden’ aspect of Dani and Easy’s relationship is compounded by outside interference, and a series of confusing messages from well meaning friends. ON BROKEN WINGS is an emotional and heartbreaking story but also frustrating as it pertained the heroine’s inability to move forward without the constant guilt of pushing aside the memories of what was and what could have been. The premise is moving and intense; the romance and attraction are palpable and inspiring; the characters are broken but healing; animated and passionate. ON BROKEN WINGS is a wonderful and poignant story from the pen of Chanel Cleeton.

If Chanel Cleeton hasn’t already established herself as an amazing author, she’s done so with On Broken Wings. On Broken Wings is the story of two people struggling with the tragic death of someone very close to them. Dani Peterson has lived the life of a military wife for years. She’s endured separations because of her husband’s deployments, she’s dealt with missed birthdays and anniversaries. She’s been strong because she’s had to be. The last two years of Dani’s life has been filled with tragedies. She’s lost the baby she desperately wanted to have and her husband died on a training mission. Throughout all of her tragedies, she’s always has been able to count on Easy, her and her husband Michael’s friend. Alex “Easy” Rogers fell in love at first sight, when he laid eyes on Dani Peterson. He had no idea she was married to his Squadron Commander and friend, Michael “Joker” Peterson. When he realized Dani was married, he tried desperately to keep his feelings in check. Something that was very hard to do when he saw her constantly. During the last few years, it was Easy who was Dani’s shoulder to cry on or pillar of strength when the world came crashing down on her. Easy’s love for Dani is so strong that if he could, he would have traded places with Joker, to save her from the pain she endured after he died. Easy’s admiration for Dani hasn’t gone unnoticed. His best friends, Burn and Thor, and their significant others know Easy has feelings for Dani. They either feel sorry for him or tell him he needs to get control of his feelings, “Don’t you get it by now? There is no one else. There never will be anyone else. There’s just her.” Easy definitely has it bad. On Broken Wings is a standalone read. However, I fell in love with Easy in the first book, Fly with Me. In that story, you got to see the depth of Easy’s feelings and how he was there for Dani no matter what. I couldn’t wait for his story to be told. I knew it was going to be special. I just had no idea how special. Easy is one of my favorite heroes. He's beyond special. He says the right things. He does the right things. Dani is his perfect heroine, because she sees the special side of him that he tries to hide from the rest of the world. She’s special and amazing in her own right. From beginning to end, On Broken Wings had my attention and never let it go. It wasn't predictable. It was heartfelt, bittersweet, touching, and loving. Chanel has written a story that will break your heart, but at the same time put it back together. **Received a copy of the book from Berkley and voluntarily reviewed.**

Chanel Cleeton has a way with engrossing me in a story. She takes characters with flaws and creates a tale that is emotional and endearing. On Broken Wings was a book I could not wait to read. Easy and Dani are two constant secondary characters in the Wild Aces series, two people dealing with heartbreak of different kinds. What I love is that this story is different. It is a love story that is a bit unconventional. Easy has been in love with Dani for years, secretly pinning over a woman he will never have, loving her from afar and being the supporter and friend she needs. Dani has dealt with every woman’s nightmare. She miscarried her son and lost her husband in a short span of time. This woman is resilient and her pain is vivid in this story. I found myself wanting to hold her and comfort her, to support her and tell her everything would be okay in time. These two both have a major role in each other’s lives. They are best friends and have grown even closer together due to the tragedy of losing Joker. Cleeton does a brilliant job of sharing their grief, guilt, and emotions. I am not one for much angst but this angst is so emotionally evocative that you cannot help but feel it. Every hesitation and struggle is born from real emotions, not something inferred or misunderstood. Your heart breaks but you cannot stop drinking in the heartache and pain. The beauty of Cleeton’s work is that there is beauty from the pain. Second chances abound. This book has so many heartfelt and sweet moments; moments of friendship and comradery. Love grows in the wreckage and hope blooms again. My one hesitation on this story going in was that it would be flippant in the emotional baggage these two are carrying into any relationship they start. But my hesitation was unfounded because Chanel Cleeton delivered a story that was deep, passionate, gut wrenching, and healing. She takes the reality of Easy and Dani’s future and gives the reader a book that is raw and stunning!

Without even realizing it Dani Peterson has been falling for Alex "Easy" Rogers for most of their friendship, little by little he found a way to sneak under her radar undetected and slowly find a place in her heart. Their relationship started out strictly as a friendship, but as things in her life became unbearable she found herself depending on him to pick-up the pieces more and more. The problem was that he was her deceased husband's fellow squadron member and that is a line no one should ever cross, but no matter how hard they both tried to fight their feelings for one another, life continued to put them in each other's paths and helped them to realize that they needed one another... The instant Dani Peterson waltzed into Easy's life he fell head over heels in love with her, but her heart belonged to someone else, one of his best friends, and so he did his best to bury his feelings for her out of respect to his friend and their relationship. But when things in Dani's life became overwhelming she turned to Alex for support, and he had to admit it felt good to be a man in her life that she could depend on. When her husband lost his life in a tragic accident he made it his personal mission to take care of her and see to it she had everything she could want or need, and he soon found himself growing closer to her than ever before... and it scared the hell out of him. He knows she is off limits, but for some reason his head isn't communicating that to his heart, and before long things between them go places he only dreamed of... places that have him never let them leave! I have been dying to read Easy's story for some time now, he quickly became a favorite of mine after reading the first book in the series, and after the second I knew I HAD to learn more about this sexy pilot!! I am not sure what it was about him that first drew me in, but he had my attention the minute he walked onto the page, and after reading his story I think it is safe to say he will stay with me for a long while. He exudes this undeniable sexy charm, that lures you in, and has you wanting to follow him to the ends of the earth, or to the last page of the book, and oh my what a story it is, Ms. Cleeton how outdone herself with this one!! This series has been one of my hands down favorite literary discoveries this year, the minute the first book fell into my hands I was completely taken with these characters and left with an insatiable urge to learn more about them!! Everyone one of Ms. Cleeton's pilots are sure to score a special place in your heart and leave with a newfound appreciation for the men who do their best work in the air!! I highly recommend you pick up this book, it will have you completely addicted the instant you start it, and is certain to leave you with a happy heart!!

One of my most anticipated reads EVER!! Easy became my favorite character of this series very fast, his heartbreak was like a pull for me, I just couldn’t help to feel for him and hope that everything would work out in the end. I loved this book, so very much. It made me sad, swoon, cry and angst all in one day, I couldn’t stop reading I just had to know that everything was going to be alright that they were going to finally be together and happy and enjoy life. On Broken Wings deals with the loss of someone you love and how impossible it seems to open up your heart once again without any type of guaranty that you aren’t going to suffer and know loss once more. I love the way Chanel writes these characters in nothing short of perfect and beautiful, she is in no way trying to erase the past but having her characters embrace it and also embrace a new future, this book brought out so many feelings in me because I kept putting myself in Dani’s place, I felt her anger and her fears and having that connection with her made me fall even more in love with this book. I think you can read this book as a standalone but if you do you will be missing on a lot, to really understand these characters you have to go to the beginning of the Wild Aces series, I promise you will not regret it.
