About the Author

USA Today bestselling author Nina Bangs lives near Galveston, Texas, with her cat, Abby, and a sexy vampire who never made it into her books. She's joking about the vampire, but she'd be open to the concept. The paranormal world fascinates her. Woo woo - we are back to the Woo Woo Inn!! And about time. Nina Bangs has two series running, but I simply love when we head back to Ganymede's and Sparkle's stomping ground. Bangs has to be one of the best at utterly sexy, wacky vamps, and other were-creatures that tramp through the lobby of the Inn. She has a sly humour that catches you from the start, and has you laughing out loud. The rare person occasionally doesn't get her. Well, that is your right. Your loss. For those of us who adore her, no one can touch her style. She is likely the best at this, the most underrated author out there. No matter how down I am when I pick up a Bangs' book, it's like a dose of happy juice! Few writers can do that every time. This time she gives us a heroine who is a Harpy. (I still loved the werekitty though!). Put aside the blue and purple creatures you saw in 'Jason and the Argonauts' in the 1960s. This Harpy, Daria, doesn't fit that mode, atall! Seems her mommy dearest was playing footsie with Apollo, so instead of a Harpy Daddy, she got a sun god for a Pop. It really messed up her genes! She tries very hard to be a big bad Harpy, but just doesn't quite make it, instead she flits into the radar of one Declain Mackenzie, vampire. She is up to no good at the Woo Woo Inn, and her plans could see Declan soaking his feet in the hot water of Hades, but Declan cannot resist the intrigue delectable Daria poses. They are facing an Armageddon that could see the Woo Woo Inn short of guests if they cannot stop it. Of course, never fear, Sparkle and Ganymede are not about to let things progress smoothly when there is mischief to stir. I sincerely hope this is not the last stay at the Woo Woo Inn, because Ganymede, Sparkle and I would be very displeased! Just the thing to chase away the mid-winter blues.

I found it very hard to connect with the characters in this book. I had to force myself to finish it. I have loved previous books by Nina Bangs and would recommend any of her books before this one, but this book was a big disappointment.

Always the first in line for a Nina Bangs novel! LOVED the suspenseful plot in 'One Bite Stand.' The kind of tense feeling you have in your stomach watching a horror movie and thinking 'don't go in the house!' Nina lets the reader see enough ahead that we're emotionally engaged in all the best intentions but wrong decisions Declan and Daria make to get what they want without getting involved. The result is a rollercoater of plot twists, sexual tension and zany secondary characters- all wrapped up in Nina's unique, bestselling humor. LOVED IT!

i really enjoyed the story of the fledgling harpy trying to get a good grade on her test and that Mede hired her to give a challenge for Sparkle. Love the interaction with all the characters and the flopping of what some people see as beautiful and ugly. Really good book and can't wait to see what other vampire characters she will write about. glad i pre-ordered it.

Daria is undergoing a certification test to determine if she is capable of performing as a harpy. To pass she must bring a soul to Hades of Tartarus if she fails the punishment is the worst that one could imagine for instance one year of humiliating public wearing of a zombie¿s castoffs. To find a worthy victim to take to her superior Tartarus, she obtains the night manager position at the Woo Woo Inn.--------- Declan realizes that something deadly has stalked and killed two of his peers. He fears for the lives of the surviving vampiric council members as he thinks they are the intended victims of the culprit. He thinks a Harpy working the Woo Woo Inn desk is hilarious, but also finds he is attracted to Daria, a taboo for a vampire. Daria realizes Declan is her ticket to the top of Hades, but cannot bring herself to take his soul as she is attracted to the vampire, a taboo for a Hades employee IAW the Harpy Handbook. As their attraction turns to love, they realize a confrontation with a serial killer of the supernatural species awaits them.--------- ONE BITE STAND is an amusing lighthearted paranormal romantic suspense as the harpy and the vampire prove strange NIGHT BITES attractions make for a fine romantic fantasy. The suspense grips the readers, but is not needed and distracts from the fun relationship between the delightful Ds make this an entertainingly ¿Wicked¿ zany tale with quite a bang of a main plot.-------------- Harriet Klausner

Declan Mackenzie is on the council and sent to the Woo Woo Inn to find out who is offing Council Members. What he finds there is a Harpy. Yes, a Harpy. A woman who is in the service of Hades by delivering bad people to death with her vulture wings. She turns half into a vulture. Oh yea, and harpies are supposed to be REALLY Really ugly. Only thing? Daria and her twin brother Kal's dad is Apollo. Yup, a God. So both of them use magic to make themselves as ugly as they can in order to make rank in the harpy world, where prettiness is bad and ugliness is top notch, this book is fun.Sparkle and Mead are back and will tug on your heart strings. Yes, even Sparkle and Mead have hearts.

Just like with my previous review on A Taste of Darkness, I cannot help but stress the fact that this book is filled with great sex, great romance, and tons of laughs! It's the perfect combination of all the things you could possibly ask for in a book, and it will leave you wanting more. If you have not read one of Nina Bang's books yet, I dare you to try one, any of them. If after reading that book, you are not hooked, then... Wait, what am I talking about? Anyone who reads her books becomes hooked. Heck, just picking them up to find out what troubles Sparkles and Graymede will get into next is enough to make you 'hooked'. In fact, I bet that it will not even take the full book to get you hooked!Okay, back to this book. One Bite Stand *interesting name, by the way* has everything in it: vampires, shapeshifters, werewolves, demons, harpies, gods... You name it. Add to that fun mix the hot and delicious love scenes between Daria and Declan, along with the romance, the laughs, the tears *even though there weren't many teary moments, they were still good!*and the thrill of watching them work together to destroy evil and save the world *literally!*, and you've got an amazing receipe! The heroine was a harpie, the hero a sexy vampire. Though it may sound like a weird couple at first, once you read their story and get to know them better, you realize that they fit together. They are both strong in character, (No wimpy soulmate for these two!) and they bring out the best in each other, just like a true couple is suppose to do. Through the book we learn more about both of their pasts and their personalities, and there is a whole lot more than mets the eye! For example, both of them have some.. unusual parent combinations. His mother was a vampire, his dad is the evil, and the oldest, werewolf in the world, Fenrir, who is trying to escape his 'prison' and join his father and siblings so that they can destroy the entire world *See, I told you that they have to literally save the world!*. Her mother is a harpy but her and her twin brother take after their father as far as looks-- Apollo, the god. Very interesting story when you add all of that together! The tear jerker moment of this book was towards the end. I don't want to give too much away, so I'll just say that Daria manages to contact Declan's long lost children *Which he had before he 'turned' vampire at 29, which was probably 800 or so years ago. Mackenzie vampires can only have kids while they are still human, which was why back then they used to marry early and have kids.*, whom he believed to be dead. It was such a sweet moment, that I swear I felt tears in my eyes, which doesn't usually happen in a book. A movie, sure, but a book? It's very rare for me to cry during a book. The only thing I wish the author would have done different was give us a little bit more of the reunion between father and children. The book ending almost as soon as they showed up, and I would have liked to have read more about it! It wouldn't have been that much harder to continue the story for a, what, maybe a page or two more? Instead, it just hints at the tender moment that is happening, what with Declan tearing up a bit and then telling Daria how much he loves her. But despite this little 'problem', the ending was still a good one, so don't get discouraged by my complaint!4.5/5 STARS! I find myself repeating the same words again and again, but I can't help it-- it's the truth! This book was wonderful, a charming read filled with passion, gut-wrenching love, tender moments and butt-kicking action scenes, giggles, laughs...Everything that a romance book should have!
