Another wonderful installment in the One To Hold series. Each book can be read as a standalone. I enjoyed Kenny & Slayde’s love story immensely. Author Tia Louise has a delightful writing style, effortlessly balancing lighthearted, serious and sexy moments in equal measure. It’s been 2 years since we last saw Kenny in One To Keep. She’s given baby Lane to Patrick and Elaine to raise full time with her visiting him regularly on weekends. She has a new job as a personal fitness trainer back in her hometown of Bayville. Her life is good even if it’s not exactly exciting since she’s been playing it safe in the romance department. We meet several new and wonderful characters in this 4th standalone novel in the One To Hold series like Kenny's bestie, Mariska and Slayde’s friend, Doc. And Kenny’s lusty bosses Rook & Tammy add some great flavor overall. I loved that right off the bat, we got an incredibly steamy shower scene with Rook & Tammy, the husband and wife owners of the gym where Kenny works as a trainer. But I was also laughing out loud and exclaiming, “oh my God!” in embarrassment for Kenny. The eventual payback scene and what Kenny tells Rook to do later on when he was being grouchy seriously cracked me up. Kenny & Slayde meet one night because of a very serious incident. Shortly thereafter they discover that they now work at the same gym. Rook has great instincts about character and sees Slayde’s need for a fresh start and his hidden potential. He decides to give Slayde a chance without references as a maintenance man at his gym. Slayde, a former hot-headed boxer, is a man who has made a grave error, paid for it and lost everything in the process. Watching him rebuild his life and give in to his growing attraction to Kenny was definitely thrilling. Of course, something very significant from their past gets brought out into the light and puts a serious halt to their relationship. How they eventually moved past it was very satisfying. One of things I enjoyed the most was Slayde’s sexy comments to Kenny because they were such great indicators of hot and steamy their love scenes got - “You smell so good. I can’t wait to have my mouth all over your body, Kendra Woods.” And, “I love how your breathing changes when I touch you.” Squee! I also loved the new tattoo Kenny gets on her palm, its symbolism, and what Slayde later does and immediately thinks in response to that action. ‘What she couldn’t know was the heart in her hand was mine. She’d hold it forever. I never wanted it back.” Awww! The chapter titles are also very cool and were apparently chosen from tattoo expressions that Author Tia Louise’s readers shared with her. If you are a fan of the movie Labyrinth and/or David Bowie, you will totally recognize Ch. 35: “It’s only forever…Not long at all.” And don’t forget to read the Epilogue which is in Derek’s POV. It hints at what’s to come for Patrick’s brother, Stuart. Stuart gets his own novel, One To Leave which is planned for late 2014 or early 2015.
Just when I thought Tia Louise couldn’t top the other books in the series, SHE DID! My heart was fully invested in this story from the very first word of the first page to the end. You are pulled in to the life of these characters. You want nothing more than to understand their past and see where their story leads them. One To Love added a lot of depth to the series. It is much more emotional, it goes deep. Putting this down was not an option. “True love destroys fear. It covers sins. It’s stronger than any human emotion.” Love. Love hurts. Love destroys. Love also heals. Kenny and Slayde have lived through this. Kendra (Kenny) Woods lost the only love of her life at such a young age. Life was not kind to her. Even with her son, she feels in a bit of a stand still. Her life is in a rut and she has no idea how to get out of it. Until Slayde Bennett. He becomes her light. Slayde, an ex-fighter has a dark past. He coasts through life as he truly doesn’t believe he is worth of anything good in life. Definitely not love. Until Kenny. While things between Slayde and Kenny begin to heat up, their relationship is rocked to the core as past and present collide. In a way no one ever thought possible. “In a period of just a few weeks, she’d become the light in my otherwise bleak existence.” Slayde and Kenny end up meeting through an unfortunate circumstance. But through that, they became forever connected just through that moment. One thing about life, you always end up where you belong. The chemistry between Slayde and Kenny is off the charts. Their build up of falling for each other was perfect. The emotions are raw. As mentioned before both have dark pasts. Pasts that dictate the individuals they are today. But this is no insta love story. Slayde and Kenny fall in love. Slowly. Deeply. Their love shatters anything you thought you knew about getting a second chance at love and life. “You’re free from the pain you try to hold on to.” One To Love is flawlessly written. The storyline is detailed and I could not put this one down! I was immediately drawn to Slayde Bennett. His real and genuine demeanor made me feel every emotion he was feeling. I felt his strong desire to love, but understood his guarded demeanor. His past was heartbreaking. And Kenny? She was such a fun character. Even with her past, you do not expect her to want to love again, but then you realize she loves harder than anyone else. Her love saves. It saves Slayde. Their love put their broken pieces back together. “What she couldn’t know was the heart in her hand was mine. She’d hold it forever. I never wanted it back.” Sometimes you find love when it’s least expected and in the darkest of places. Kenny and Slayde found that when their love was tested beyond what either would could have ever imagined. Their love didn’t know boundaries, it destroyed them. And even when it seemed impossible that their love could even surpass the huge blow to them, it did. The author is truly talented in allowing you to see the story through her character’s eyes. You simply do not read her stories, you crawl inside of them and live there. One To Love is no exception and I found it to be an amazing addition to this series.
Loved this series.. Read all 8 books and they are best read in order... Loved the characters and the series contains just enough of everything... Love, sex, mystery, violence and happy endings... The settings are in different places from big cities and penthouses to a ranch in Montana and a beach house on the East Coast ...In every instance I could not wait till the next book in this series...
This is one Tia Louise book to fLove! The emotions going through this book will take you through the ringer but you will enjoy the ride. Slayde Bennett is a man trying to claw his way out of the black hole that has been his life to date. He’s gone from riding the high of being a successful fighter, having the world as his personal playground, to losing it all. The author gives us a lot of insight into his character, how his fragile state of mind plays into his fight to make a new man of himself. He recognizes his selfishness of the past and has no desire to go back, in fact his career of a fighter is definitely over, but he still struggles to see himself as redeemable. Kenny (Kendra) Woods’ life, however, is on the up-swing. She’s got a job she enjoys, good friends, and is on great terms with her baby daddy and his girlfriend who are currently raising her son. [ If you are new to this series, the backstory on Kenny and Patrick and their son will not leave you feeling left out. You can easily read One To Love as a standalone.] Kenny’s had a hard start to her life, too, but you can tell her confidence is building and to her surprise, her broken heart is healing. She does not hide from her past and that shows a personal strength, too, because owning up to the fact that her son has a better life with his Dad and acknowledging that her grief over a murdered husband is fading cannot be easy. So how do these two come together?? Like a freight train!! Kenny’s warmth and giving character reaches out and surrounds Slayde and he never has a chance! He’s very cautious, but it’s sweet the way he’s totally undone by the feelings he gets from Kenny. She, too, is overwhelmed from the beginning by her feelings for Slayde. This love is not perfect, hence the Karma reference. This plot twist was a good one and helped to ground the romance and keep it from falling into the insta-love category. Without giving any spoilers, I can’t say much about the conflict other than it takes a strength not many could admit to, to overcome this difference and continue on with a relationship. I really liked both of these characters and the way the chapters are split into their own voices gives you a deeper insight than if the H and h were relegated to trading out a paragraph or two. Fans of this series will love seeing glimpses of Patrick and Elaine and even the prelude to Mariska and Stuart. I received a free copy of One To Love in the anthology, 9 Ways to Fall in exchange for an honest review.
This my very first Tia Louise novel and oh holy cow! This novel is amazing. Melissa is a woman who needs time away to heal her soul. Her life is a train wreck of epic proportions and she needs major space to think. A chance trip to a desert spa oasis gives me more than just a relaxed mind and body. A chance meeting in the hotel bar leads to a different type of healing and quite frankly the best kind, sexual healing. A one week chance at happiness lands in her lap with business man Derek and she can’t take the chance fast enough. One to Hold is what you would classify as a quick read. However, it doesn’t lack in sexual kindle melting chemistry or suspenseful romance. Both Derek and Melissa are holding on to dangerous, relationship breaking secrets. The sheer intensity of their relationships is charting topping hot. The ending alone is enough to keep you reading into Book #2. I can’t wait to dive into it!
Best one yet inthe series.
4 star The story has laughs, twists and turns, betrayal, ton of pleasure, and heartbreak. I would recommend reading the below before reading this story One to Hold (One to Hold, #1) One to Keep (One to Hold, #2) One to Protect (One to Hold, #3) This is more of Kenny and Slayde’s story. Kenny is still grieving for her husband she lost years ago. After the whole Patrick thing she knows she needs to move on. She goes out one night and things go horrible wrong. Slayde saves her but she never gets to thank him. They meet again at work. Slayde used to be a fighter. The chemistry between these two is hot. They for a relationship but when they find out who they are to each other there whole work comes tumbling down. Slayde runs and Kenny shuts down. Can they ever go back to how they were and the love they felt if the past is in the way? Will they ever get the chance to see if they could be good together or is Slayde gone for good? I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I recommend this book, the series, and can’t wait for the next story from this author.
Another great read here. This was my favorite of the series so far!
