This is actually one of the best novels i've read in many years. It's reminiscent of Paulo Coelho's writing style complete with suspense, romance and serendipitous mysticism. Very few reads generate the multitude of emotions that this one does, right until the end. Just when you believe you might know, you don't. Opening up for our eyes the centuries old struggle of the Balkans, Ms. Nogulich reveals to us all aspects of the strife that continues in the region . I can say more but I won't. You'll have to read the book.
This story is not only beautifully written, but will hit a nerve in every single reader. It is evident that the author has a deep and profound love of the written word. The story is a lesson in life that will resound in your mind well after you've finished the book. It is informative, engaging and inspirational. Be aware that it is, also, a page turner and very hard to put down once you start. The main character, Yelena, is a strong, strikingly handsome woman with an equally beautiful soul. She endures much and suffers unimaginable pain. Her life's journey will be unforgettable and you will most likely see a little bit of yourself in her and her family, too. This book has it all: familia love, friendships, romance, mystery, the ravages of war, murder, vengenance, redemption, grace, and abiding love. I can't recommend this book enough!
