"Zaspiv", "Ukraine in old times" and "Our ancestors are Slavs" are poems in which Oleksandr Oles depicted the history of ancient Ukraine during the times of the principality. It was a period of coexistence of people and gods, when Dazhbog illuminated the earth, and Stribog flew freely through the steppes. Mythical creatures inhabited dense forests and did not hide, and people gathered in clans and tribes. Even then, Ukraine courageously fought against enemies, defending its freedom.
