The debate as to who actually recorded the first hardcore song may well never be settled. The name most often checked off however is Santa Ana, California's Middle Class. Though long relegated to footnote status in hardcore's story, the Middle Class actually had plenty to offer. The music on OUT OF VOGUE is surprisingly challenging, influenced as much by post-punk bands like Gang of Four and Joy Division as by the Ramones. The title track is a nonstop blitz of rapid-fire vocals and churning buzzsaw guitars.
