“Ella, you’re wanted in the principal’s office,” Ms. Weir says before I can step inside the Precalculus classroom.

I check my watch. “I’m not even late.”

It’s one minute before nine and this watch is never wrong. It’s probably the most expensive item I own. My mom said that it was my dad’s. Besides his sperm, it’s the only thing he left behind.

“No, it’s not about tardiness…this time.” Her normally flinty gaze is soft around the edges, and my gut relays a warning to my sluggish morning brain. Ms. Weir is a hard ass, which is why I like her. She treats her students like we’re here to learn about actual math instead of some life lesson on loving your neighbor and crap like that. So for her to be giving me sympathetic looks means something bad is cooking down at the principal’s office.

She should save her sympathy for Justin Slade, the captain of the football team, who is unironically sticking his tongue between his fingers and waggling the wormlike thing at me. He bragged about his tongue the day we’d met, when he cornered me in the hallway, informed me I was hot, and graciously offered to give me the best sex of my life. I’d said thanks, but no thanks.

Since then he’s been hounding me to reconsider, but it doesn’t matter, because I won’t have to deal with him for much longer. He’s going to college next year and will be in for a sore surprise when he realizes the best days of his life were in high school. His pathetic attempt at mocking me doesn’t deserve acknowledgement.

“Fine.” It’s not like I can give any other response. I offer a nod and redirect myself to the school office.

“I’ll email you the course assignment,” Ms. Weir calls after me.

Again with the sympathy. I should be worried. The implication behind her statement is that I won’t be returning to class, but there’s nothing Principal Thompson has to say that could faze me.

Before enrolling in George Washington High School for my junior year, I had already lost everything of importance. There isn’t anything else anyone can take from me.

Even if Mr. Thompson has somehow found out I’m not technically living in the GW school district I can think of some lie to stall for time, and if I have to transfer, which is the worst thing that could happen to me today, then I’ll do it.

If he brings up the fact that my mother is a stripper? Well, I’ll call him a liar and remind him that having a stripper for a mother isn’t grounds for suspension or dismissal.

“How’s it going, Darlene?”

The mom-haired school secretary barely looks up from her People magazine. “Take a seat, Ella. Mr. Thompson will be right with you.”

Yep, we’re on a first-name basis, me and Darlene. One month at GW High and I’ve already spent way too much time in this office, thanks to my ever-growing stack of late slips. But that’s what happens when you work nights and don’t see the smooth side of the sheets until three a.m. every night.

I loved this book so much. It depicts some real life situations in which some people may connect too. It's also a VERY descriptive/vivid book so if you're looking for a movie type of book, here it is!

This was quite the emotional roller coaster! It’s slow to start, but it does pick up pretty quickly and goes full speed from there. Ella is a likeable heroine, she doesn’t complain even though she’s been dealt a crappy hand in life. The Royals are such a dysfunctional family, I just loved them. You’ll want to have book 2 ready to go, because what is with that ending???? I still can’t even.

I was completely wrong about Paper Princess. I honestly thought it was going to be a royal’s story, not a Royal’s story… as in their last name. So, there are no prince’s or princess’s. Just a rich dude who takes in a dirt poor teen and tries to incorporate her into his lifestyle with his five snobby rich-boy sons. Which is not exactly the story I was expecting, but it was still an entertaining read. I actually got this book from my library and it was classified as Young Adult. Me personally, would not give this book to a young teen. There’s stripping at a strip club, drinking, drugs, attempted rape, and some pretty steamy and quite detailed sexual scenes that I would associate more with a New Adult novel than a YA. So, while the story follows a teen, the things that take place inside the pages are not really appropriate for a younger crowd, in my personal opinion. Now onto the story. I will admit that I rolled my eyes at Ella… a lot. I mean, she’s this girl who’s at the bare bottom, trying to make ends meet. She’s working three jobs, one of which is stripping, and attending school… and her name is Ella. I was not at all surprised that her stipper name is Cinderella. After all, this story is a “Cinderella story.” I just wish her name wasn’t so cliche. Anyways, not only does Ella go from rags to riches but of course she has to fall for the meanest of the Royal boys. The one who runs the show, the one who says she doesn’t belong and gets pleasure from treating her like scum, the one who belittles her and accuses her of doing everything under the sun, the one who propositions her like a total creeper. Yup, that is the guy that Ella falls for. Ugh! I’m a little sick of the heroine falling for the a-holes who probably grow up to become psychopaths. This isn’t healthy, people. Not sure why authors keep writing about it like it is. To say I was disappointed in a lot of the decisions that Ella makes would be an understatement. For having to grow up and be her own adult at a very young age, you would think that she would be smarter… but she isn’t. She got struck dumb by the pretty boy stick, and it was just a little sad to watch. However, it pains me to say that I really enjoyed this story. Say, what! I know that’s not where you thought I was going with this. I mean, the characters are cliche, the romance was cringe-worthy, and there really wasn’t anything original to the story… but I still didn’t want to put it down. It was like a 300 page train wreck and I just couldn’t look away. It was like getting a glimpse into the rich people’s world where power is everything, and these kids have been playing the game from a really young age. I was fascinated by the dynamics of it all and while there were some really creepy scenes that were way too inappropriate to be considered normal… even for some rich snob. Yet still, I was glued to their story. So, yeah, I have already put the next two books on hold at the library and I’m itching to start reading them.

Thank goodness I didn't start reading this until the third book was published because it would have killed me to wait. This series reminded me of Tijan's "Fallen Crest High" series...which I loved! It is well written and you can't help but fall for those Royal boys! I loved every minute of the entire series!

Okay this book is amazing. There is so much going on. The Royal family is so messed up. I have to say I really like Ella, the heroine. That's rare and it helps me enjoy the book that much more. I'm not sure there is anything I disliked about this book. So very entertaining. Their life is like a soap opera. I wanted to go around and lecture every student at the school. What a bunch entitled jerks. The ending was awful. Reed is such a jerk to her for this entire book. But at the end, I wanted to punch him. I'm not sure he can redeem himself to me after what he did. That wasnt just bad judgement. We'll just have to see. Highly reccommend this entertaining, well written book.
