CHAPTER 1

Tracie Jordon is awakening to the constant ringing of her cell phone ... her eyes are not open as she reaches towards the night table to retrieve the cell phone ... and finding nothing ... the constant annoying ringing she shouts 'please already! dam it to hell, where did I toss that thing ... still fumbling around feeling for the cell phone and suddenly feels the vibrating ringing phone next to her foot ... she still has her eyes closed as she manages to retrieve the phone ... pushes the answer button on the phone ...

A voice she does not recognize is talking to her in a very angry way ... Tracie ... sleepy replies ... please. ... tone it down it bit ... I am not deaf you, son-of-a-bitch ...

The voice on the other end of the phone ... becomes very annoyed with her ... He begins yelling at her ... as he hastily repeats what he is telling her ... he is talking to her in the angriest harshest tone he can muster.

Tracie winces as she drops her phone on to her bed ... the man's yelling can be heard all about her bedroom.

The Man on the phone ... YOU TELL ME LITTLE LADY ... WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT THAT CRAP IN MY TRAILER AND BY THE WAY, I WANT THAT SHIT CLEANED UP AND THE DAMAGE FIXED TO MY TRAILER ... I HAVE HALF OF MIND TO SUE YOU AND YOUR MOTHER FOR THE DAMAGES DONE TO MY TRAILER.

OH! AND BY THE WAY YOUR SISTER SKIPPED OUT ON ME ... YOU OWE ME BACK RENT MONEY ... I NEED THAT TRAILER CLEANED UP 'ASAP' ...

DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME!

I HAVE AN IRON CLAD CONTRACT WITH YOU AND YOUR MOTHER ... YOU ALL HAVE YOUR NAME'S ON THAT LEASE ... GO ON TRY NOT TO DO NOTHING AND I WILL OWN EVERYTHING YOU GOT ... DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME ... YOU OWE ME MONEY AND I WANT IT ... the man disconnects his call immediately before Tracie could ask him one question ...

Tracie ... oh wow ... what a bastard ... what the hell was that all about ... not wanting to return this person's call she is now wide awake looking at the cellphone and wondering who the heck was that on the phone ... she thumbs thru the numbers on her contact list ... she sees a name ... remembering ... oh I get it ... she pushes the ring button on the phone ... as she is listening to the ringing phone she remembers ... this is the jerk we rented the trailer from for Francine ... and now this jerk is telling me Francine has skipped out owing rent money to him ... I told mama it was a bad idea for us to sign a lease for her ... now I have to go to Logan and take care of business ... dam it to hell that dammed Francine ... I would love to get my hands on her ... I would literally choke the life right out of her ...

Knowing Francine and how she is ... I told mama she would not pay that dammed rent ... once the free rent ran out we were going to get stuck with the bill ... She reaches across the night stand turns on the lamp ... she remembers her mother giving her a copy of the letter she wrote to Francine. She opens the drawer on night stand by her bed takes out the sealed envelope ... tearing open the sealed envelope removes the letter from the envelope unfold the pages of the letter and begins to read the letter ...

The harsh words her mother used in that letter brought back many bitter memories of how they did not get along from the git-go ... they only got to know each other, because her mother married Francine's' dad ... wishing her dad was still alive she would have never crossed paths with Francine ...

In the letter, her mother told her stepsister ...

I am very sorry to hear from you, sorry you got yourself knocked up. You think your baby has a chance in life, you are nothing but a drug head and a drunk ... we knew you did not move to Logan by yourself ... you had that no account boyfriend of the week hiding in the wings ... You two are just exactly what that baby does not need for parents ... DO NOT CALL US OR WRITE TO US ...

I am sorry for you ... this letter has no money in it ... tell your boyfriend of the week to get a job and stop doing dope the both of you ... another thing we don't want to know when your child is born ... let this be the last time you ask us for money.

The best thing that can happen to you is if the good lord takes your baby away from you ... you are a worthless piece of trash ... by the way forget Tracie is your sister ... she will not help you either ... that trailer ... We meaning your father and I as well as Tracie rented it for you alone ... this is the last thing we will ever do for you ... we paid a year's rent in advance, hoping you would get on your feet ... sorry ... you are on your own ... it is anyone's guess why you are running away from Moodus ... better yet, we don't want to know to what you are hiding from ... we can read the News Paper ... the police are actively looking for person or persons of interest in some unsolved hideous murders ... knowing you and your boyfriend of the week ... I will make a bet ... you two are the persons of interest however that is on you guys ... forget we exist ... we are washing our hands of you ...

Tracie ... remarks ... WOW MOM! How come I did not read or hear about murders in or around Moodus ... when sis left town ... and you thought Francine and company had a hand in what happened to these people ... Way to go ... you really got her told off in this letter ... Am I ever surprised with you and dad. I know how she broke you and dads heart when she ran away this last time ... you just got her out or rehab ... I knew this was the final straw that broke the camel's back ... I remember hearing you tell dad ... it was a waste of your money paying for her rehab ... when she picked up where she left off before she was finished with rehab ... reuniting with the gang she was hanging out with before ... The court ordered rehab and the state made you all pay for ... folding up the letter, stuffing it in back in the envelope returning it to the opened drawer on the night stand closing the drawer thinking ... this letter she wrote to Francine; I wonder if mom remembers what she told her in the letter ... oh well I will not remind her ... the phone stops ringing again.

She looks at the time on her cellphone ...

Now I know why Mom and Dad was glad to move ... when I suggested it was time to get out of the old neighborhood where no one knew of them or about them ... I never realized they had people gunning after them ... all because of Francine and company ...

As she pushes the button on the phone next to her mother's number again and again ... she voices out loud come on pick up the dammed phone mama ... finally after trying several times her mother answers the phone ...

Mrs. Jordon ... answers the ringing phone in a very sleepy sounding voice ... hello ...

Tracie ... hi mother ... it's about time ... I thought you were dead ... do know how many times I tried to call you ...

Mrs. Jordon ... perks up ... oh my Tracie I had to take a sleeping pill ... what is wrong ... something is up ... that dammed Francine ... I already know it ...

Tracie ... wow mom ... you were really out of it ... now mother ... I just got a call ... I think Sis ran out on the rent ... her land lord called, yelling at me he wanted his money and the trailer needs to be cleaned up and repaired ... this man told me he was going to sue us if we did not come and take care of business ... Mom as I am talking to you I am packing my bag ... when I hang up this phone I will be on my way to Logan ... I will call you once I find out more what is going on, who knows, maybe she joined that same bunch of devil worshipers that has gotten after you and dad in the past ... you stay put for safety sake ... let me take care of this ... to tell you the truth I don't know what is going on ... I will call you when I find out the truth ... let me go and take care of business ...

Mrs. Jordon ... go on girl ... I will be waiting on you to call us ...

Tracie ... keep safe ... Please ... love you and dad and hug that big ugly dog for me I miss him ... I have to go now ...

It took Tracie more than three hours on the road before she reached her destination ...

As she pulls into the drive way in front of Francine's trailer ... recalling what the landlord told her ... thinking the outside is just as crappy as ever, the hand railing on the porch is still falling down ... talking out loud ... the railing on the trailer looks more rotten since the last time I saw it ... Whatever possessed sis to come to Logan in the first place ...

She voices out loud ... OH WELL ... get a grip ... as she steps on the front steps of the trailer ... she cautiously turns the knob on the front door ... she is shocked at what she finds ... a massive pool of blood in the middle of the living room ... she wants to vomit smelling the foul odor of stale blood, stale cigarette smoke, stale beer and whiskey, ashes from the cigarettes, rotting food and open sewer ... talking out loud how much worse can this get ... this is worse than smelling the foul stench of any city dump ... if that is possible ... she immediately blocks open the door and quickly sets about opening all the windows and the back door ... as she looks around the room ... cigarette butts all over the place, with a few crack pipes, empty beer bottles and whiskey bottles along with half eaten food left in food containers scattered all over the floor of the trailer as she shuffles through the trailer ... she opens the bathroom door ... there is dirty underpants lying about on the floor ... the toilet not flushed full of used condoms and human waste stinking to high hell ... she is trying to catch her breath ... she runs to the opened front door of the trailer ... and begins gagging ... the foul smelling trailer is making her sick to her stomach ... talking out loud ... this place is nothing short of my worst nightmare and a dammed drug head hangout ...

She is standing outside the trailer and begins yelling ... Sis ... how the hell could you live like this. ... trash all over the floor ... empty beer cans, whiskey and wine bottles all over the place dirty clothes scattered on the floor used condoms on the floor ... the toilet full of shit and piss and that huge pool of blood ... what the hell did you do ... did you murder someone ... with that amount of blood ... that person surly cannot be alive ... the paneling sliced though ... did you take a machete to someone ... no self-respecting rat would live in that dump with you ... as she is looking at the open door way a huge rat runs out the door ... oh well I am speaking out of turn what do I know ... you did have rats living with you ... knowing you ... you got them hooked on crystal meth ...

She forces herself to walk back into the trailer ... as she is looking around the living room she looks at long slashes in the paneling again ... oh no ... this is reminding me of something ... thinking ... no, no way I will not think this is The Peanut King ... the damage would be more if it was the Peanut King ...

Then her attention is drawn to a very old mirror that has some kind of painting in it ... she cannot keep her eyes off it ... what the hell is in that painting in the mirror ... she looks away ... again looking around at the mess ... oh man I am sorry I will not do nothing more today I have to buy something to kill this odor and cleansers ... lots of cleansers ... this place needs to air out ... I don't know if I want to walk back in here to try to clean up this mess ... she walks back out to her truck ... opens the passenger door of her truck ... stirs though the glove compartment ... not finding what she is looking for ... I am done for the day ...

She cannot help herself ... talks out loud ... sis you really have fallen in to the depths of human degradation ... after seeing this place ... I would not have believed you could live like this ... she climbs back in her truck to find a store to buy supplies to clean the filthy mess up ... thinking I really don't want to touch any of that crap in that trailer ... it is just too much I have half a mind to go an buy a can of gas and some matches and set that mess on fire to tell you the truth if I could have found my fire place lighter in the truck ... I would have set that place on fire and drove back home ... that is what that place really needs is a good fire to purify it ... as she is driving around the town of Logan realizing this town does not have much to offer in the way shopping ... then she spies a sign ... Logan feed and seed store ... thinking ... maybe I can find what I am looking for in there ...

She pulls her truck up and parks in the front of the building ... gets out and enters the feed and seed store ... once inside she discovers ... this place is old fashioned it is shopping hub of this town ...

Tracie walks about the store selecting the many items she needs to clean the trailer ...

The man behind the counter ask her what in the world do you need with all the cleaning stuff for ...

Tracie does not answer the man as she continues to walk around the store picking up things needed to get the job done ...

She finally places the last of the items on the counter ... she asks the man how much do I owe you ...

The man slowly begins to ring up each item ... once he finishes he asks is this all you need ...

Tracie ... you know something ... I could really use a hand or two to help me with this project ... is there a carpenter that you know of that needs work and a couple of handy men perhaps ...

The man tells her ... you owe me two hundred eighty-nine dollars and fifty-four cents ... Miss may I asks that is a lot of cleaning stuff you just purchased ... what are you going to do with all those supplies ...

Tracie reaches into her wallet pulls out three crisp one hundred dollar bills paying the man for the cleaning supplies ... replies to the man ... the trailer my sister was renting needs to be burnt to the ground however the man that owns the trailer wants me to clean it up and repair it ... this is not my property ... so I must do what I really don't want to do ...

The man tells her let me get one of the helpers to carry this out to your truck ... He reaches for a scratch pad ... jots down some names and phone numbers on the paper and gives it to Tracie ...

Tracie asks what is this ...

The man ... a couple of carpenter's names you can choose from ... these men have a crew that works for them ... call this man Joe first ... he is reasonable and fast at what he does ... to tell you truth I heard about the bad condition of that trailer and if you pay Joe and his crew well ... they will do a good job for you ... as you said before the trailer has seen its better days ... I agree with you Miss ... that trailer needs a good fire to put it out of its misery ...

Tracie ... how do you know my dilemma ... tell me ... how well do I need to pay these men ...

The man maybe twenty-five an hour ... although you just purchased those cleaning supplies ... that will be a plus ... you supply the money and the supplies ... Miss you must remember this is a very small town and we all know about the condition of Francine's trailer ... heck it was nothing but dope heads hang out ... let's face it she was far from being a shy school girl ... when she was sober she tended bar until she got drunk and once she was drunk she met gentlemen out back ... everyone in town knows how she was ... and what happened at that trailer of hers ... I will not talk about that ... let me guess you have the misfortune to be related. You must go to the sheriff's office ...

Tracie ... Oh my ... was Francine that bad! ... to tell you the truth I stopped by her trailer before I came here ... the odor and the stale stinking blood was too much I opened all the windows and doors hopefully the trailer will air out a bit ... oh what about mask ... I almost forgot ... no one can go in there without something over there nose and mouth ... that place is pure toxic ...

The man at the feed and seed ... let me go find you some ... in fact I will give this to you ... all I know is that trailer should be brought to the dump instead of you trying to clean up that mess ... but you gotta do what you gotta do since you don't own it ...

Tracie ... takes the mask from the man ... ask where is the sheriff's office from here ...

The man ... replies ... the Sheriff's office is two miles out the hospital is holding on to Francine dead baby's body ... you know she lost that baby over two weeks ago ...

Tracie ... wow this just keep getting better and better ...

The man ... you know I think a pile of bones found by the creek a few miles out of town ... I keep saying those bones belonged to Francine's old man
