The 1930’s saw the country steeped in ‘The Great Depression’. Thousands walked the streets trying to sell apples for five cents. Losses on stocks created a landslide of suicides. Shantytowns of cardboard and sheets called “Hoovervilles” sprung up around the country by the hundreds. Farmers lost their farms to pay meager debts.
