"I'm not the hero in this story, girl. You'd do best to remember that."

Once upon a time, I was an eighteen year old psychology student.
Now, I'm a man's property.
Stolen and sold, I've been decorated in bruises since the day my world changed two years ago.
I suffer in silence, I crave freedom, but I never break.
I can't.
Until he arrives.
Elder Prest, the only man to look at me and see me. The only man more ruthless than my owner.
He wants me for reasons I don't understand.
He claims me for one night then leaves and never looks back.
Until he returns.
And life becomes much more complicated.

Read this story in one day - difficult to put down. It is a dark story, but the heroine is so strong you have to root for her. I will be purchasing the entire series, 212 pages on my nook.

I thoroughly loved the exciting, addicting, and heartbreaking dark romance that I honestly could not take my eyes off the spellbinding story. I received an ARC for an honest review. At the age of 18, Tasmin is kidnapped, sold as sex slave to a cruel and abusive man, Alrik Asbjorn, and Tasmin's name becomes Pimlico. No matter what Alrik does to Pim, who he shares her with, torture, beatings, and broken bones, Pim refuses to talk. When a business man, Elder Priest, comes to Alrik's house, Priest wants her and Alrik does not want to share with Priest. Alrik takes out his temper on Pim. Read the highly recommended, first book in the series by the phenomenally talented best selling author of Dark Romance, Pepper Winters. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series, Dollars!

Pimlico has been stolen from one of her mothers functions and has been sold as a slave to Master A. Master A is a cruel, vicious man and allows his friends to abuse Pim freely too. Elder enters the picture through a business deal with Master A. He may not be a good man but shows the most kindness Pim has known in years. The author does a great job of pulling you into the story. I don't usually read anything this dark. It says a lot that the author could keep me reading all the way to the end. Book was well written and abuse was not given in complete detail.

I could not put down. There is alot of verbiage throughout to a point of annoyance. Seriously, I doubt many people think that much. This story was also somewhat erotic; but beware very violent. Now, my main complaint,, and this is a HUGE one........why five books to tell one story? I refuse to buy any more. To all authors: wait and just publish a WHOLE book....this is just trickery and insults the readers!!!!!!!

A few things come to mind when reviewing this story. First, it isn’t a romance, not at all, not even a little bit.  It’s the first book in a series where a romance may start, but this book is about a young girl who gets kidnapped and sold into slavery.  It is horrific and brutal.  Luckily not as graphic as it could have been.  A lot of the sexual abuse was implied, which I am incredibly grateful of.  But there is a lot of physical abuse that is very brutal.  So be forewarned This story is mainly in both characters headspace, which I usually am not a big fan of, but with this, it worked.  I have already grabbed book 2 to continue this story.  Not sure if I will go further than that, we will see.  Dark romances aren’t usually my favorite, but every once in awhile, one will peak my interest.   Eric Rolon and Kylie C Stewart did a phenomenal job on the narration, and it was also in my favorite format of a duet.  I loved that.  I am giving Pennies: Dollar, Volume 1, 4 Boundless Stars, even though it was brutal and dark, I still want to know what comes next.

Wow. This is definitely a must read, but boy is it dark. I found myself cringing and wanting to rescue her at moments. But I was also cheering for her in her silence!

I'm a big fan of Pepper Winters. So just about anything she writes I'll love or at least read. Just because I loved it doesn't mean you will.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review. **First let me say, this is a DARK Romance and is not for the faint at heart. If you do not like those kinds of stories, then please do not read this one. After all it is written by Pepper Winters and she is not called the Queen of the Dark for nothing** This story starts with Tasmin being kidnapped when she was 18 and she knew that no one was looking for her and if they were then they would not find her. She started writing on toilet paper to “No One” just to help herself, someone to talk to. After a few weeks in an old hotel, she was finally taken downstairs for an auction. There were other girls there and Tasmin was girl number 13, she knew the number was unlucky for her. She even tried to bid on herself but she was outbid and taken away by her bidder and she knew her life would never be the same. Master A took her on a plane and when Tasmin refused to talk, he didn’t seem to mind as long as she obeyed him. He renamed her Pimlico. He got a kick out of torturing her in any way he could. She would count the days until she finally gave up counting. She continued writing and hiding the paper from master A, it was her only outlet. Master A would share her with his friends and they were just as cruel as he was. Pim just wanted for Master A to kill her so it would all end, she thought about killing herself but she knew he was always watching her. When Mr. Prest shows up one night, he is a business associate of Master A, he takes an interest in Pimlico and she knows it will only anger Master A and she will pay later. She is still silent but Mr. Prest seems to read her mind and thoughts, he knows what she is thinking almost before she does. Will this stranger be her savior or will he be just as bad as Master A? Can Pimlico trust Mr. Prest with her thoughts? Will Mr. Prest be able to leave her after he learns the truth about how she is really treated? If you have read any of Pepper Winters other DARK stories, then you know this one is going to be dark, painful and heartbreaking but worth every tear you shed. Once I got started reading, I could not put it down and I cannot wait for more. **Wicked Reads Review Team**

I like the stories but sometimes they get a little wordy. I find myself skimming pages. It is not a feel good book with a fairy tale ending so don't expect that. The characters are good the storyline is good. It captivates your attention from the get go.

Theme song: "Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence Tasmin Blythe was supposed to attend a university, earn a doctorate, and follow her mother's carefully constructed plans into an allied health profession until an unforgivable twist of fate stole away all those dreams. Thrust into a human trafficking/sex slave ring, Tas realizes that she's about to study criminal psychology, firsthand, under the cruel teachings of Master Alrik. During her captivity, the naïve eighteen-year-old evolves into Pimlico, a savant of sensing with her ears, listening with her eyes, and watching her tongue. And for two years she hasn't said a word. Forged by a tough upbringing, Elder Prest trusts no one, loves no one, and hates anyone who compromises his cold exterior. On a chance meeting, he knows the woman detained inside the white house could be his undoing. Resisting Pim proves a challenge like he's never faced before. Elder wants the enigmatic woman in every way. Her mind. Her body. And most of all, her voice. But definitely not her heart. This book had my body weeping for Tasmin, questioning Elder, and loathing every last son of a batch of burned cookies that harmed her. Pim is the definition of fortitude and resilience, which is a reason I was drawn to her before buying. I respect her strength and her sharp wit. Even though she's taken an oath of silence, her determination to survive and equal implore to die cry in decibels. As the second book that I came across when discovering Pepper Winters, Pennies blew me away! It's gritty, harrowing, and above all bone chilling. The angst is tangible, the brutality is heart stopping, the intensity is building, and it's only volume one in the five-novel series. Last but not least it cannot be read as a stand-alone. There's a slight cliff-hanger at the end!!! (But it is survivable...just depends on how desperate/attached you are to the characters. Lol) Hero rating: 5 stars Heroine rating: 5 stars Writing mechanics (literary elements/devices usage included): 5 stars Plot rating: 5 stars Dialogue rating: 5 stars Storytelling rating: 5 stars Story ending rating: 5 Sexual tension rating: 5 stars Sex scenes rating: N/A Sex scenes frequency: N/A (not good nor bad, just occurrence rating) ********************************************** Overall rating: 5 stars Would I recommend this series: Yes. Pennies is book one in the Dollar series. I wound up grabbing this book as a freebie, though it looks like it's no longer on sale. It's well worth the $0.99 though! This is a very dark story of a girl sold into sex slavery. It's not my typical type of read but with all of the good reviews floating around I knew I had to read it. I wound up reading this in one sitting, it's an attention grabber for sure. Our story starts with Tasmin Blythe attending a fundraiser for her mother. She's the pretty rich girl, you know the type. For that reason alone we find out she's strangled, then revived at the fundraiser and winds up being kidnapped to be sold to the highest bidder. The men change her name to Pimlico (the city where the fundraiser was held) and sell her to the highest bidder. He turns out to be a man named Alrik Asbjorn who immediately whisks her off to his house in Crete and locks her in to do whatever he wants. The story is told in a mixture of diary type entries as well as normal story line. It was an interesting touch and one I appreciated since the diary type entries held the more sinister type actions (rape, etc) so we didn't get a ton of details on that thankfully. Alrik basically keeps her there for two years at this point and while she might be subservient to him, she refuses to speak at all so she still has some control in that aspect. That pisses him off beyond belief so we do see some scenes of him abusing her due to that. This is where our story gets interesting. Alrik invites someone over for dinner which he never does and gives Pimlico some clothing and expects her to act the part of doting girlfriend. Elder Prest is the guest of honor yet he somehow sees right through Pimlico's disguise and actually treats her like a human being. Though Pimlico still holds her silence, Mr. Prest is able to understand her body language and decode it somehow. It was an interesting turn and I hoped she'd somehow be able to get out from Alrik's clutches. Pennies is such a dark story but utterly captivating. As I said earlier, I finished this book in one sitting which is something I very rarely do. I had to know what would happen to Pimlico and boy do I want the next book in the series right now. I never expected to wind up enjoying a book about a sex slave but it's so well-written that it's hard not to. If you're a fan of dark books, I think you'd enjoy this novel.
