Maybe I'm comparing it too much to "Coinlocker Babies" but I couldn't get into this story as much as I could with other Murakami books (Piercing, In the Miso Soup, ect). The story is good though and the characters are believable. I'll never think of karaoke the same way again!

This is the absolute first time Ive ever wanted to give a novel no stars. Actually, this deserves -100 stars for how bad it is. The novel started out slow. I stuck out hoping it would get better and then it started picking up the pace. Unfortunately, it picked up the pace with a couple of strange and particularly DUMB occurances. A worthless student takes some sleeping pills, wakes up the next morning with a hard on, torments some middle aged woman and then kills her for no good reason. Later, he runs to tell his friends what he did and the bunch of mindless idiots "Ooooohhh" and "Aaaahhhh" like he did something extra amazing. The woman's friends find out who killed her and one of the friends end up killing him. So, a cycle is born. The story ended there for me. I couldnt read any further. It was stupid, boring, the characters were shallow, annoying and just plain dumb. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone at all.
