About the Author

Athina Giovanis, D.O. is Board Certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.
Dr. Giovanis graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in Microbiology.  She then went on to work as a research scientist before entering the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine where she earned her Doctor of Osteopathy degree. 
Dr. Giovanis completed her internship at Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine.  She then completed the Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine/ Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in Bronx, New York.
Since completing her residency in 2010, Dr. Giovanis has been in private practice in New York and Rhode Island. She taught students and residents as a clinical assistant professor at the Department of Family Medicine at Brown University. Presently, she is an assistant professor at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in Middletown, New York.


Julie B. Katz, D.O. knew she wanted to specialize in Osteopathic Medicine at a very early age.
She finished a predoctoral fellowship in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine prior to becoming Board Certified in Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.
Dr. Katz started her Family Medicine/ Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine practice in 1998.
She is passionate about the field of Osteopathic Medicine and shares this passion by teaching medical students.
