She was in love with her brother's best friend.

He broke her heart.

Time heals…but is it enough for a second chance?

It's been eight years since Marissa had her heart broken by her teenage crush who just happened to be her brother's best friend. She'd been so sure he'd felt the same…but his humiliating laughter still echoes in her mind.

Nick hasn't been able to stop thinking about what could have been all those years ago if only he'd followed his heart the night Marissa confessed her love. But the timing had been right, and there was the guy code. He couldn't date his best friend's little sister—ever.

Now her brother is getting married, and with both of them in the wedding party, Marissa won't be able to avoid Nick for much longer. But she has no reason to be nervous. After all, she's no longer an uncertain teenager and those feelings are long gone—or are they?

Promised Gifts is the eighth book in Elena Aitken’s Castle Mountain Lodge series. I’ve read the majority of the books in the series and this one definitely did not disappoint. Castle Mountain reunites Nick and Marissa after eight long years. I loved watching them connect especially at a wedding. This is a short story that can definitely be read in one sitting. After reading Promised Gifts, now I have to go back and reread the books I’ve read and read those I missed. I highly recommend reading Promised Gifts. I received an advance copy that I chose to voluntarily read. This is my true and honest review.

Welcome back to the Castle Mountain Lodge series. This book is the most amazing love story that I have read for awhile. Marissa has always been in love with Nick her brothers best friend. Nick also had been in love with his best friends little sister Marissa. If I type anymore i am afraid that i will give the whole book away. If looking for a stand alone book that you don't have to read the whole series this is the one.

I loved this story from Elena Aitken's Castle Mountain Lodge series! Marissa Duncan has loved Nick Slater since she was a young girl, but Nick broke her heart the night she finally got up enough courage to tell him and all he did was laugh in her face. Little did she know that he was only trying to cover up the fact that he's had feelings for her also. Feelings that he could never act on because she was his best friend's little sister. Years later they find themselves working together as best man and maid of honor at her brother's wedding. Working this closely has brought up all of their old feelings and this time Nick isn't going to deny his feelings because Marissa is all grown up and the code between friends doesn't count now. I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

Very sweet read. A small amount of angst but ends with a HEA. An easy vacation read. The story flows and is uncomplicated so can be enjoyed without worry, there for a good relaxing read. Worth the time spent.

In todays world filled with turmoil it's great to pick a book and fill good from beginning to end. You will feel good and that is a promise after reading Elena's latest novella

Castle Mountain Lodge is a standalone however for me, it is so much more fun to read an entire series as I get to visit with folks I already “know” – but it isn’t necessary. Promised Gifts by Elena Aitken is a fun, quick read (for me at least!) about Marissa Duncan and Nick Slater. When Marissa was younger – okay, most of the time she’s known him – she had a major crush on Nick. You know the kind, world stopping as only a teenager can experience. Of course there is the ‘bro code’ between Nick and Marissa’s brother so he breaks her young heart. Cut to “today” and Marissa is a part of her brother’s wedding party…and so is Nick. Their story is touching and funny and heartbreaking but no worries! Their journey to an HEA is a wonderful story that only Ms. Aitken can tell. Fun, quick read with some sweetly romantic sexy parts.

This is a sweet, clean romance that is heartfelt, touching and finally heartwarming. Our main characters are Marissa Duncan and Nick Slater. Nick has been her brother’s best friend as long as she can remember and she has been in love with him since her teen years. On the day she graduates from HS, she decides to express her love and kisses him. But he devastates her by his rejection . Fast forward to eight years later . Her brother Jake, is getting married and Nick is his best man and she the maid of honor. When they come face to face old feelings surface. Will they get a second chance? Does he even have feelings for her ? And if he does, will he choose Jake’s friendship and his love for her family, or Marissa, or can he have all three? It’s a fast paced story, with a well developed plot . Though it’s part of a series, it is truly a stand alone. I was gited this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
