About the Author

Publicista, periodista e inventor de la teoría de relaciones públicas, Edward Bernays (1892-1995), nació en Austria y era sobrino de Sigmund Freud. Siendo aún niño, sus padres se establecen en Estados Unidos. Se licenció en Agricultura en la universidad de Cornell, pero su verdadera pasión era la comunicación, donde desarrolló su carrera en publicidad, periodismo y, finalmente, en las relaciones públicas.

Bernays está considerado el "padre" de la profesión, ya que dio el primer gran paso definiéndola, resaltando la necesidad imperiosa de ejercerla e indicar sus funciones y su campo de acción, en atención a la alta demanda existente en el área comunicacional de las organizaciones y la creciente necesidad social de éstas por ser escuchadas.
