IF PUBLIC SPEAKERS WERE SUPERHEROES, WHAT WOULD THEIR SUPERPOWERS BE?
AND, COULD YOU DEVELOP THOSE SUPERPOWERS YOURSELF?
Author Carma Spence asked these questions of dozens and dozens of speakers and discovered the answer was, "Yes!"
Three out of every four people suffer from speech anxiety, and research suggests that people who don’t confront and overcome that fear are less successful in their careers and lives. However, people often look at successful speakers as superheroes with superpowers they, as mere mortals, could never possess.
Drawing from extensive research and interviews with business and professional speakers, Public Speaking Super Powers will show you how to:
- How to overcome the fear of speaking
- Develop the skills needed to be a success on the stage, such as storytelling and humor
- Master techniques like a superhero speaker, such as audience engagement, and using your voice, body language and eye contact effectively
and much more... There is even a bonus chapter on the business of speaking.
Unleash your inner Public Speaking Superhero and communicate your message with confidence starting today!

If you are someone in a career where you need to have good public speaking skills this book is for you. Maybe you are a sales person for the first time, or your trying to get into a management position at work. Either way you will want to grab a copy of this book. The tips are great and easy to implement. It's also said simply so it's a great read for someone in high school to someone in their 50's.
This is a really gutsy and encouraging book and a real call to arms for those of us who would rather hide in the stationery cupboard to get out and share our message via public speaking. Everyone, she says, has a message and, who knows, yours could have the potential to change someone's life. On that basis, not sharing it would be rather selfish. Her various superheroes illustrate that there are many different types of public speakers and that there is not one right way to do it. In fact, different presentations often require different styles. What is important is the authenticity of the message and being able to connect with the audience to convince them that you are speaking from the heart. Public speaking skills are broken down into components such as authenticity and engagement in separate chapters, each of which is chock-full of helpful and motivating words for expert speakers in their field and contains lots of exercises to get you thinking. Lots of Spence's advice reaches further than public speaking and her exercises could equally be used for personal or career-related goal setting because they are designed to help you learn about yourself - so that you can get clear on the message you want to share. If you have to give a speech, whether at a wedding, the local council or in work, I recommend you pick up Carma's book and take heed of her 'feel the fear because it could make you a better speaker" ethos. I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Ever wondered what makes you listen and pay attention to someone when they talk? Is it there body language, their words or looks? This book will take you on a journey to explain these factors to you. Once you understand these, it will make you think about your own actions and improve your all round demeanor to portray your messages in a more positive manner in order for them to be heard. So what makes for a good speech, can you name a few things, using this as a starting point and taking on board the advice as well as using the exercises in the book will improve your technique. The book goes on to explain important key factors in speech delivery including organisation, preparation, research, engagement with the audience, to improve your delivery and a make it a more enjoyable experience. Think about all the great speech makers and how to they get their points across, even if you do not agree with what they are saying. For example, at the moment Brexit is a major discussion point in British Politics and is going in front of Parliament to be voted on and over the past few days, viewpoints have been changed by the power of the speeches made. But why have people changed their minds? This book will explain it all and how you can influence people to believe in you even if their do not agree with your viewpoint. An excellent book which will improve your power of speech which will increase your confidence and hopefully boost your chances of moving on in the workplace or even change vocation to fulfill your potential.
By trade, I'm not a "public speaker" per se....however, writing is very similar because I'm using words to convey my message -- just in print form! This book is a terrific tool for anyone since we all have share a message at some point in our lives. Often, I find myself speechless, nervous, and anxiety-ridden when having to deal with crowds of any size. This book gives actionable skills that can give you an edge in any situation. This was exactly the boost I needed to push me to the edges of my self-made limits and break through them. Thanks to Carma's approach, I'm looking forward to taking my superhero persona onto the next level. Her advice is simple and easy-to-follow; but also unique in the approach that she takes. I'm ready to be more confident in my delivery and take my personal AND business life to higher playing field. My son suffers from anxiety when having to speak for projects/speeches at school but I'm grateful that he has a new approach to check out! I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.
