About the Author

Phillip Humphries holds black belts in three systems of karate and kempo. He has had exposure to multiple fighting styles, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Krav Maga, Taekwondo, Hapkido, Aikido, Shaolin Kungfu and police defensive tactics. A former police officer & detective with three tours in SWAT, Mr. Humphries has 20+ years of street experience. In addition to his martial arts and law enforcement backgrounds, Phil has nearly 20 years service as a CIA officer and is a listed as a self defense subject matter expert on Phil continues to practice martial arts and resides in suburban Northern Virginia with his wife and four Cockatiel parrots.
