I’ve been totally schooled! “Fahrenheit 451” (60th Anniversary Edition) by Ray Bradbury is nothing short of amazing. The imagery and message woven within each page, each sentence, each word, reached out to my mind and held onto it until the last period and beyond. Montag’s journey as a fireman, one who starts fires to burn houses containing books, to becoming a lover of the written word is profoundly disturbing, yet exhilarating. Clarisse McClellan, a young girl who appreciates nature and enjoys deep conversation, is paramount in the turn Montag takes along his personal winding road. Reading descriptions of big screen TVs and earbuds, I could hardly believe this novel was written in the early 1950s about a possible future. I also found it shocking that a book about a type of censorship (book burning) underwent strikeouts during the 70s before being placed in schools. Seriously? I found satisfaction in reading that Bradbury confronted those who would dare do such a disservice and reprinted the book with all the original scenes and strong language. As a writer, I appreciate Bradbury’s tenacity to write such a novel and wish I could have met him. I recommend this book to anyone who appreciates the written word, and even to those who don’t.

Something everyone should read! I was a big fan of the book, and seeing it become a graphic novel was a treat. There are some things missing that you could only tell by reading the original, but it still gives the message loud and clear. If you are a fan of Bradbury, you need to pick this up!

This book opened up my eyes about how easy it is for the government to brainwash the society they are controlling. We have a brain that has the ability to develop, think, invent and dream!!! If we lose the ability of reading books, we will soon lose the power of thinking for ourselves. A must read to further understand the importance of books!
