Fr. Lawrence Boadt, CSP, (d. 2010) was a great Scripture scholar, and a great many people are indebted to him for making understandble the field of Old Testament studies. Though written over 25 years ago, this introduction to the Old Testament remains a very good book, especially for those with little or no training in Scripture studies. Those who lead Adult Faith formation and RCIA courses would find in this book a helpful resource for presenting themes on the Old Testament. This reviewer does wonder, however, why a revision or update was not afforded to make an otherwise very good book even better. An example is that the author utilizes and spells out the Divine name (YHWH) as opposed to the more common 'Lord'. To be fair, this may have been common and acceptable when the book was first written and published in 1984. But this is less common today, which is why a slight revision by the publisher might be appropriate.
