Reason to Believe by Gina Gordon

“Gina Gordon never disappoints,” declares Jen McLaughlin! In this sizzling novel, two outsiders trying to turn their lives around find everything they’re looking for in each other’s arms.

Grace: I thought that reinventing myself as a corporate go-getter would be easy compared to my old life as an escort, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. After taking a full-time office job, my past has come back to haunt me, my love life is nonexistent, and I miss sex—even with the lying cheats who used to be my clients. The trouble is, the closest thing to a man in my life is Ben Lockwood. After pushing me away, that jerk has the nerve to ask a favor—so why is he so hard to resist?

Ben: Working my way up from cameraman to vice president of an adult media company has been . . . interesting. To focus on my career, I swear off all distractions—especially sex—and turn to Grace Nolan, the most poised and polished woman I know, for help cleaning up. But after my little vow of celibacy, spending time with Grace is pure torture. I can’t touch her, and yet I can’t stop thinking about her. And deep down, I know the reason why.

This is the first book I have read by this author. This is book two in a series and while I never read book one, I did not feel lost at all. I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand it was very hot with delicious scenes that will make your heart pump and blood boil. But on the other hand the negative self talk for the first 1/2 of the book became very repetitive and almost killed the pleasure of the story for me. Luckily I persevered as the second 1/2 was much better. With the story set in the porn industry, you almost expect it to be a raunchy read, but the author kept it in the business area, for the most part. Some humor and a few smiles came through but the story was mainly about the two main characters and their deep attraction to each other. With loads of anticipation and the build up of intense feelings and emotions, this book ended up being an hot read that I warmed up to by the end. Great save and a pleasurable read, mainly due to the fact that this author knows how to write about great sex!

If you want a really hot sexy book to read, then this is one to read. Ben and Grace were insanely hot together and could not keep their hands off each other. I loved how when they looked beneath the surface of each other, they discovered just what they needed in a partner. His fierce protectiveness of her was very alpha sexy. And her total acceptance of him and wanting to help him was beautiful. They both had demons from their families to overcome it order to truly love. Even though the topic of his line of business and her former career are a bit out of the norm from what I usually read, I loved the way Gina used their occupations as a pro in their relationship instead of a con. This was a great story about accepting those you care for/love as they are regardless of any baggage they may have. I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher through Netgalley.

Reason to Believe by Gina Gordon is a red hot love story, and it is like nothing I have ever read before. This book is centered around what our society deems primarily shameful and embarrassing, prostitution and porn. And that is what makes it so irresistible. It is nicely written, the characters are appealing, and the plot is unique. Three years ago Grace Gordon made a conscious decision to become an escort. She needed lots of income fast, so she could continue her college education and fix the poor financial situation her parents created. Now Grace has left the past behind as she is on the verge of success as an organizational development guru. She also wants a husband, a white picket fence and 2.5 children, which is difficult because of her previous occupation. The only person that sees Grace for Grace is Ben Lockwood, the Vice-President of a very successful adult film company. Ben was once a porn star, but worked his way up to the executive suite. Sex as a career has been prominent in both their lives for a very long time, which makes their individual pasts much easier to understand and digest. Together they are a steamy couple, both in and out of the bedroom. However, finding forever is quite complicated as they deal with trust issues, vulnerabilities, and outside influences. Over the course of the story, we understand what makes both Grace and Ben tick, as they learn about each other and evolve their one night stand into so much more. Ms. Gordon's passionate writing style results in well-developed characters that are full of intensity. Overall, Grace and Jake Ben are amazing together, and they challenge each other without even knowing it. This is a nicely-written book that kept me engaged from beginning to end. Reason to Believe, is really a heartfelt, steamy read. There is more to it then just the sex. That’s what I really got from it. Ben is the VP of White Lace, it is a company that produces porn. I actually found it interesting. He isn’t close to very many people because of his past. But with Grace things seem to change. I thought it was quite funny that both were being celibate but i could see for good reason. Grace was an escort and trying to runaway from her past. I get why she doesn’t want anyone to know what she’s done previously. But in a world like today, people can really find out anything you’ve done in your past. I didn’t read White Lace #1, so I really didn’t know what happened in the last book. But I think you could read it as a standalone. It would still be interesting to go back and read the first one. I really do like to read in order, but really didn’t have time to go back. I’ve never read anything from Gina before. But I found that her writing was done well and was able to keep me interested in what was going on. But it did take me awhile to really get into the story. But once it got going, I really couldn’t put it down. Overall, I give this book Four Boundless Stars. I really did enjoy it and I’ll have to go back and read the first!...Lissa

3.5 stars This is book 2 in the White Lace series. I loved book 1 and this one was just okay, for me. Not that it was bad, it just wasn't as good. But still good, if that makes sense. Grace was a paid escort and is now trying to establish herself in the corporate world. Even though she escorted scum sometimes, she still hasn't given up on that fairy tale of finding love. What she didn't have in mind is working with a former affair with a bad boy. Ben is working his way up from camera man to VP of an adult media company. He's trying to find himself and earn respect. He meets Grace and....fireworks!! He can't keep her off his mind. Is that a good thing or bad? Is Ben Grace's Prince Charming? Thanks to Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept via NetGalley for the copy of this book!

You know when you read that first book in a series and it is so freaking great, then the next comes out and you expect it to be THAT good as well… And then it’s only good not the freaking great as the first… Yeah I’m there with Reason to Believe. Let me clarify, this book did not suck. Far from it, Reason to Believe was actually a good book. Grace and Ben were great characters, practically two peas in a pod with their backgrounds. He’s the new VP at White Lace after Max left. Not only has he filmed porn he’s been in a few of them as well. Grace was a paid escort and is now trying to establish herself in the corporate world. Both are trying to put their pasts behind them but insecurities and fear are crippling their confidences. When they are with each other, they can be themselves. Unfortunately, he has serious trust issues when it comes to women and is afraid to commit to one woman. She wants a man who can see her for herself not as Jade, and will be committed to just her. Neither thing they are good enough for each other. Really, with their inner turmoil’s, history in the sex industry, and who their best friends are, you know they were perfect together. And the way Ben FINALLY tell Grace he loves her, OMG…it does not get any more romantic than that! So, with how much I enjoyed the book why was it such a disappointment to me? Because the first book, Rush, had me laughing up a storm and Reason to Believe… didn’t. Oh, there was passion, great characters – some new and old familiars, and creative little twists along the way. But where they was humor previously, it was substituted with doubts and angsts this time around. In addition, since the story is told in dueling 1st person POVs we get to experience all their roller coaster emotions. The sex still sizzled and as much as I liked Ben and Grace, their story just lacked the fun I got the first time around. I was so looking forward to that fun. Sigh… Reason to Believe really is worth the read. Fans of author Gina Gordon, which I do now count myself as one, are going to want to read it. However, if you are expecting a repeat of the first book in the series with all its humor, then you may be sadly disappointed. I received this book from NetGalley for the express purposes of an honest review to be posted on the JeepDiva blog. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine. Stars – 3.5, Flames – 3.5

This is a beautiful story of two broken people who are trying to turn their lives around. This was a well written story with a interesting and very different storyline. The characters are well developed and like able. The chemistry between them is crazy Hot! The push and pull between them leads to some entertaining sarcastic banter that I enjoyed as well. This storyline kept me captivated from beginning to the end. Grace is so much more than a sexy ex-escort, and as she tries to put her old life behind her, we find out her dreams, as well as her vulnerability. Ben has just been promoted and although he has been in the porn industry for a while being the VP is overwhelming. Both of them decide to take sex out of the equation as they get settled in their new roles. But when they are thrown together by friends their past...i.e. a sexy tryst when she was a escort, that was crazy, hot, and the last time they had sex, is in the back of both their minds. Drawn to each other, even though neither one of them thinks, the other is right for them. They jump right in to a relationship which is so hot! But finding forever, is quite incredibly difficult as they learn to deal with trust issues, vulnerability, and outside influences. Will they get their HEA? Can they overcome their pasts? You will have to read to find out. Received a complimentary copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ben Lockwood is the VP of White Lace, a director/cameraman and former actor of porn. Grace Nolan is a former paid escort and now doing her best to put her education to work as an organizational executive in the corporate world. These are two tortured and damaged souls who seem to be running from their past but do not know how to live in their present. This is well written and the characters are good but there was something lacking I just cannot put my finger on. Overall, I enjoyed the book and the premise and the whole porn/escort didn't turn me off but something was lacking somewhere. I do recommend this one though. **Received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

3.5 stars----REASON TO BELIEVE is the second installment in Gina Gordon’s contemporary, adult WHITE LACE erotic, romance series. This is former porn actor/cameraman and the new vice president of White Lace productions Ben Lockwood, and former escort and HR executive Grace Nolan’s story line. REASON TO BELIEVE can be read as a stand alone although I recommend reading the series in order for backstory and history between the characters including Max and Everly from book one-Rush. Told from dual first person points of view (Grace and Ben) REASON TO BELIEVE follows the re-building relationship, the second chance romance between Grace Nolan, and Ben Lockwood. Ben is the new vice president of White Lace productions- a film company that produces porn videos. When his best friend and ‘brother’ Max Hirsh walked away from his father’s porn company to open his own luxury hotel, Ben stood next in line to ‘inherit’ the mantle of vice president in charge of everything. But Ben is in need of a fashion make-over to look the part of the new VP for speaking engagements, and Grace Nolan has offered herself up for the job. Grace and Ben’s personal pasts have allowed for the kindred spirit in each to find one another although Ben refuses to acknowledge the love he feels for the woman who stole his heart. The world building continues to focus on the ‘behind the scenes’ executives of the porn industry, the actors, the videos, the ridicule, the stereotyping, and the shame for those who work in every aspect of the business. The sex industry is front and center as Grace comes face to face with several men from her past, and Ben’s attempts to prove himself worthy are met with taunts and derision from the closed minds of the people who are not involved. There are a number of secondary and supporting characters including Grace’s roommate Sadie who suffers at the hands of someone we know little about. Max and Everly from RUSH take the next step forward in their relationship; and Max’s father Hirsch Levin who has come to a decision about the future of White Lace Productions. We are introduced to White Lace’s new ‘intern’ Cory- a student at the local film school and a young man who has a few things to teach our leading hero. REASON TO BELIEVE is slow to build. The story line focuses on two broken souls whose lives went off track when the future seemed destitute and bleak. There is plenty of push and pull, back and forth between Ben and Grace-neither one believes they are capable of love or being loved. The premise is interesting and revealing; the characters are broken and real; the romance struggles with issues of guilt and memories but in the end our couple get their happily ever after. Some readers may take issue with the story line subject; I recommend going into the story with an open mind.-sometimes people have to make the best of the situation-any way they can.

*3.5 stars rounded* This is the second book in the White Lace series and while I loved Rush, the first book, this one didn't have the emotional connection with me the first did. Both Grace and Ben have somewhat colorful pasts. She's an ex escort and he's a videographer of porn with some personal appearances as well. With the history of these two I was expecting a story with a bit more angst than the story contained. The story overall is a good one, perhaps my expectations were just too high. The characters are well developed and there is definitely chemistry between them. It's definitely well written and there is a nice easy flow to the story so it's one I would recommend.

2 - "The games not over." Stars. Gina Gordon novels of late for me have either hit outstanding highs or underwhelming levels of low, being that Reason to Believe is the follow-up to Rush which fell into the outstanding category for me, I had pretty high expectations for this one. Sadly Ben and Grace’s book ended up planted firmly on the underwhelming shelf for me. I am not sure what happened between this book and the last, I really liked them both as secondary characters in Rush, Ben was cocky but likeable, and Grace was prickly but relatable, but we get to their story and the ex-porn-star and the ex-escort just came across as pretty undesirable for the bulk of the book. The secondary characters sort of kept me reading this one and I loved Cory, it was also good to see more of Max and Everly, but the emotion, connection and character development that was offered up so well in their book just seemed to be missing from Ben and Grace’s, which seemed to be more about sex, lack of it, having it, not having it, when they were going to have it, why they weren’t going to have it, why they shouldn’t have it again… You can see where I am going with this I am sure. "What’s one more time." Not a winner for me on this occasion, maybe my expectations were unreasonably high, I just feel this couple were a little short-changed in the telling of their story.
