About the Author

Jordie Bellaire is a multiple Eisner Award winning colorist for acclaimed projects such as VISION, THEY’RE NOT LIKE US, PRETTY DEADLY, INJECTION, AUTUMNLANDS etc, as well as mainstream hits like BATMAN, DEADPOOL, MOON KNIGHT and HAWKEYE. She is writer and co-creator with artist Vanesa R. Del Rey on the ongoing Image Comics series REDLANDS and is the writer on Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic book series.

She lives in Ireland with her famous cat, Buffy.

Tom King is the New York Times best selling author and multiple Eisner Award winning writer of Batman, Superman, Mister Miracle, Vision, The Sheriff of Babylon, Omega Men, Strange Adventures, and many others.

Prior to becoming a writer, King served in the CIA as an operation officer in the Counterterrorism Center. He lives in Washington DC with his wife and three children.

Cuban artist Vanesa R. Del Rey began her career doing concept art for animation. Her work in comics has been described as dark, gritty and mysterious with great dominance of figurative work. She has illustrated Scarlet Witch, Spider-Women Alpha, and Daredevil Annual (2016) for Marvel Comics. REDLANDS, co-created with Jordie Bellaire is her first creator-owned series with Image Comics. She currently lives and works by the beach in Miami, FL.

Eisner Award–winning colorist Bellaire’s debut writing effort is a stellar feminist occult horror comic. The first volume takes place in rural Florida, where a coven took over the town of Redlands in 1977 “to make new, through sacrifice.” In present day, the coven is Redlands’ police force, attempting to maintain control in the wake of a serial killer’s rampage. Laurent, a friend and ally of the coven since the ’70s, finds the killer, decapitates him, and feeds him to alligators. During this battle, a witch named Bridget almost drowns and becomes possessed by Nancy, a dead sex worker forced into servitude by the monstrous pimp Zuzu. Bridget grants Nancy permission to use her body and track down her former captor. The spine-tingling adventure is filled with examples of sexual harassment, such as a principal propositioning one of his female students for sex, adding emotional terror to the spooky mix. Monsters abound, but even the supernatural characters evoke humanity and empathy. Del Rey’s fine-lined watercolor-style art makes even gore look gorgeous and sets an ominous mood which elevates the suspense. This dark campfire tale is both politically relevant and terrifying.
