About the Author

Rita Williams Holtz is an Archivist at the Alexandria Library, Local History–Special Collections branch. Formerly a nurse, she is a genealogist, researcher, and avid history buff. In her ten years with the Local History staff, she has worked extensively with the library's photograph collection and researched properties, buildings, and people for local historical organizations and newspapers. Rita lives in Lorton, Virginia, with her husband, Ron.

Julie Ballin Patton holds a bachelor's degree in history and a master's of science in information from the University of Michigan. She is the Photo Archivist and a Reference Librarian at the Local History–Special Collections branch of the Alexandria Library. Before moving to Alexandria, she was a Research Associate in Human-Computer Interaction at Penn State University and a Digital Librarian at a leading automotive corporation in Detroit. Julie lives in Alexandria, Virginia, with her husband, Gil.
