About the Author

Garson Kanin (1912-1999) was an esteemed theater and film director as will as a prolific writer. Trained at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Kanin made his theater debut as an actor. With the help of his mentor George Abbott, he became a stage director and soon became a film director for RKO. While serving in the military during World War II, he co-directed with Carol Reed the documentary THE TRUE GLORY which won an Academy Award in 1945. He followed this success by writing and directing BORN YESTERDAY. Over the next four decades he wrote plays, short stories, essays, novels, memoirs and screenplays; and he continued to direct for the stage. He was married to actress and writer Ruth Gordon in 1942 until her death in 1985. Kanin married Marian Seldes in 1990. He died at home in New York in 1999. www.garsonkanin.com
