While many might find the physical battles, adventures, and unique world captivating. I was more impressed with the internal struggles the protagonist Staszu faced and how Adela eventually helped him face them. Stevens has found himself a new fan. Great work!

The storyline surpassed my expectations. Even among the cast of characters the hero Staszu works to protect, I found people I both loved and loathed. Like a good novel should, it toyed with my emotions and left me wanting more. I will recommend Rise of the Shadow Panther to all my friends.

Arthur L. Stevens debut novel, “Rise of the Shadow Panther” introduces us to the beautiful and expansive world of “Varth. The protagonist Statzu provides a window into the struggle between the evil “Deceiver” and the “Resztaki” people. The result is a magnificent story that every fantasy reader will enjoy. The Summary “Rise of the Shadow Panther” is Arthur L. Stevens first published novel but he has been writing fantasy since the 1990’s. He started by designing realms in Dragon XXX, an online text based fantasy role playing game. Since then, he has created a collection of stories that have been published on multiple online forums. Stevens’ more than twenty years of experience developing worlds, really shines through in this novel, as the world he created jumps off the page. He also shows his mastery of guiding his readers through an action packed story. His novel flows seamlessly from inner conflicts to massive battles and everywhere in between. The only time that I felt bogged down was in the Prologue. Here the reader is plopped into Stevens’ massive world and I found myself struggling to absorb all the information packed into his short intro. However, some fans will appreciate this shotgun approach. Personally, I would have liked a little more nuance. This amounts to a style preference that doesn’t take away from the rest of the story. Once it gets moving, the pace is really enjoyable and from Chapter 1 on, the story flows seamlessly. The Verdict Arthur L. Stevens’ major strength is his imagination. With it, he has created a massive and complex world full of engaging characters. Once I read Chapter 1, I was hooked. From that point forward, I was excited to read every page and follow Statzu wherever his adventure led. Rise of the Shadow Panther does everything you would want a good fantasy to do. It sucks you into a unique world with interesting characters and leaves you wanting more. Arthur L. Stevens has delivered excellent work in his first published book and I am excited to continue this adventure in his next novel, Magus of the Gods.
