The New York Times bestselling author of The Iron Duke and Heart of Steel returns to the Iron Seas with a riveting new adventure of steampunk and passionate romance…
A century after a devastating volcanic eruption forced Iceland’s inhabitants to abandon its shores, the island became shrouded in secrecy. Five years ago, Annika unwittingly endangered that secret, but her sister Källa took the blame and was exiled. Now Annika serves on the airship Phatéon, flying from port to port in search of her sister and longing to return home. But that home is threatened when expedition leader David Kentewess comes aboard.
Determined to solve the mystery of his own origin, David will stop at nothing to expose Annika’s secrets. But when disaster strikes, leaving David and Annika stranded on a glacier and pursued by a madman, their very survival depends on keeping the heat rising between them—and generating lots of steam…

I was totally absorbed in the book and had a very difficult time putting it down. There were times when it felt like the author had too much to say about social issues - but personally I didn't mind too much lol. It was fun, adventurous, and I loved the main characters. I definitely recommend it!

Slow build and not as compelling as Iron Duke.

I started this series with the Iron Duke. That was a great book. I read everything else Meljean has written in this series, and loved all of it. So this book was on my auto-buy list. I was not disappointed. This book is the best in the series. The action is rollicking, the characters are engaging, I hated for it to end. The test to me of a book is how much I want to know what happens in the character's lives after the book closes. I'd read a whole series about the characters in this book. Read it, you'll love it.

This was a totally satisfying read. The charactes & emotiins were wonderfully drawn and authentic. They were interesting andrealistic- I get weary of novels in which the people are all nuts & dont act like anyone real or sensible ever would. The steampunk elements were fun and really added to the tale. What a great adventure & romance. Meljean Brook is such a great writer.

Riveted is the third installment in Meljean Brook's steampunk/adult romance series titled Iron Seas. I am LOVING this series! Although Riveted may not be my favorite in the series, it's still so, so good. I love this magnificent steampunk world Ms. Brook has crafted and the character building she has so delicately structured is amazing. The heroine Annika advocates for women to love who they love without judgment and empowers others to move forward despite their origins. She has struggled with being judged based on where she comes from and she's much too tired to let this continue to negatively affect her. The hero David is a half machine man that despite his incredible physical strength, is incredibly self-conscious and struggles with his self-esteem particularly around women. How fun it was to watch these two slowly find their way towards each other...and yes, it's sexy as hell. Although the romance aspect is very present, it's not as focal as the earlier installments (at least from my memory), but the main storyline featured is entertaining enough without the frequent hook-ups. If anything, the slow build up was the perfect tease for this innocent-feeling romance. Riveted is a great addition to a remarkable series that I am having too much fun with. If you enjoy both steampunk and adult romance, check out this series. NOW! My favorite quote: “People are the only things that don't always improve upon knowing what makes them up. Well, people and sausage from a manufactory.”

First, my one complaint. The cover, while attractive, does not portray the characters correctly. Hair lengths are wrong (and made much of in the story), the gun is probably on the wrong side, his scars are missing, and I don't think that is a likely outfit for her. All that aside, I very much enjoyed the book. The author has control over that, but not over the cover, sadly. I had enjoyed The Iron Duke and found this one equally engaging. The steampunk world from book one continues and holds true to its reality. We have an interesting look at gender challenges here. Quite fun.

~Reviewed by SUZANNE & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog If I had to chose a book that I loved the most this year Riveted would be a front runner. Brook never fails to give me exactly what I want; adventure, romance and excitement and all in such an interesting and original way that I can’t help but get 100% caught up in the book and have great sense of disappointed that it had to end. Annika and David are new characters in the Iron Seas series, which gives us a fresh new perspective and allows us to explore a different part of the world than the previous books. All of which set up a fantastic background for the slow building, yet completely beautiful and breathtaking romance that was growing between Annika and David. Annika hoped that David would be the last sight she ever saw, his gaze burning with love. She hoped that the very last thing she ever felt was this wonderful, riveted twist in her gut, and the touch of his warm lips. But, as well as the lovely and passionate romance that Brook so effortlessly seems to build, the story and the world she has created also captured my attention. The more I read this series the richer it becomes and allows for some action packed and exciting stories as well as romance, this all culminates together to create a book that I just couldn’t put down. Love. This. Book. My favourite in the series so far, I loved the main characters, they were quirky and so well drawn that by the end of the book I felt like I knew them, and the romance between them was deliciously slow building yet intense and passionate. Once again Meljean Brook has written a book that I can’t fault.

I loved this book after the first 50 pages. Who knew telling "Old Wives' Tales" could be a means of self-preservation, obfuscation, and counter-intelligence. Annika Fridasdottor is a fresh character, but has the feel of Pippy Longstocking growing up into a teller of tales, into a lover, into a heroine. In all it was charming and memorable.
