What an utterly great book! For anyone fascinated by robots, androids, and cyborgs, this is it. The color photos are striking, and Mr. Marrs takes the reader through the history of robots and artificial life all the way to today and the future. Are robots nearing singularity, an era in which they will outsmart humans and eventually become our overlords? The book explains exactly how this can happen, and that era is only a few years away. I couldn't believe the androids of Japanese and Chinese women and of Philip K. Dick, the famous sci-fi writer on the subject of robots. This is the best book ever on robots.
If you like the topic of robots, you must get this book. It's a state of the art kind of book, explaining where we are at in robotics and androids, and importantly, where we will be in coming decades. The social aspects of robots really shook me up. The subject of a "Machine Avatar" ruling over a coming world of superior robots and a reversal of Asimov's "Three Laws of Robotics" is interesting, to say the least. I love this book, especially the color pictures but also, Texe's typical wizardry in the exciting way he presents the subjects.
Robot Alchemy is superb. Who but Texe Marrs could ask, "Will Robots takeover the world?" At first, I thought this was a science fiction novel, but as I read on I was faced with irrefutable logic and facts. Yes, we now approach the age of robot superiority. The subject of the economy and jobs lost to robots is interesting and this book really covers that. The color photos stand out and are startling. The book is valuable and unique simply for these amazing photos. The coverage of Transhumanism was mind-absorbing. The actual Russian girl who modified her looks to appear to be a "Barbie" and so forth. I especially enjoyed the section on robot books and movies. Robot Alchemy is a treasure that makes you think--Is this real? Could this happen? The answer is yes. A thoughtful and highly recommended book.
