About the Author

Scottish author Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle (1859 -1930) was a physician known for creating the character Sherlock Holmes. His detective stories are generally considered milestones in crime fiction. He also created a second character, Professor Challenger, and popularised the mystery of the Mary Celeste. He was a prolific writer and he worked on the front line during the Boer War, recording his observations and interviews with soldiers to put into book form.
