Overview

"I was utterly consumed." - R.S. Grey, USA Today Bestselling Author

With her heart literally in his hands, Celia will have to try and bargain with a devil.

Edward Fasbender is my captor.

Trapped on this island he owns everything on--including, it seems, me.

He told me he would break me, but I thought he meant in the bedroom. It turns out Edward is playing a completely different game.

And he won't stop until he's ruined me.

Ruin is book two of four in the dark and edgy Slay series. Rivalry should be read first.

5 Star Review of Slay: Ruin (Slay Quartet #2) by Laurelin Paige Edward Fasbender and Celia Werner both know how to manipulate people and circumstances to suit themselves, they know the game, they play to win and take no prisoners. The question is who will win? Having read the first book, in which I found that I wasn’t initially drawn to either characters, I was intrigued to see where Ms. Paige took us in Ruin. Ruin gives us a deeper insight into Edward and his actions as the relationship between Edward and Celia develops. It is an intense, emotional and gripping story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The chemistry between Edward and Celia was intense as the Dom/sub relationship develops. I loved how Laurelin Paige drew us in with the story she wove. Questions will be answered and more will be raised, as Celia and Edward delve deeper into their relationship. This book is like an onion with layers to be peeled away one by one. A roller coaster of a read that is a fast paced story that will draw you in and keep you riveted from the first to the last chapter. Cannot wait for more.

This is one of those books that you know you will never forget because this author really gets under your skin with her twisted tale of lust, greed, power and revenge. I so wanted to hate Edward and Celia who on the face of it love to play games, love to play with people’s emotions so maybe they deserve the loveless marriage they find themselves in or maybe we need to dig deeper into their dark pasts to see the real characters behind the masks they wear so well...... Slay: Ruin does exactly that as secrets are revealed and we finally get to see why Edward has been infatuated and so passionate with his pursuit of Celia and we get to see what made Celia the person even she doesn’t like ........ This story has so many layers and I’m struggling to put words on paper as I write this review, I was blown away by a book I really didn’t want to like but I’m so glad we finally get to see the person behind the mask Celia wore so well in The Fixed Series. This couple both have layers that need to be peeled back and if I’m honest I hated some of their actions but as I join their journey I find myself falling for the characters I wanted to hate and for me that shows just how talented this author is because she had me doing a 360 degree turnaround as she drew me in and stripped the layers of Edward Fasbender and Celia Werner. I can’t wait to see where the final games take his couple.....

I want to hate this story. I honestly do. But I freakin’ can’t. Celia has been a villain in my eyes for years now but my goodness this story is addicting. It’s intense. It’s twisted. It’s all the things I love in a great read. Laurelin is completely on top of her game. I mean if you can make me start to like a character after years of being oh I can’t stand that woman...yeah. You got something here folks. Winner winner chicken dinner! Edward. That man! He is the most peculiar person I’ve ever read. I can’t figure him out and that intrigues me even more.

WOW! Sometimes i can't believe what I am reading with this author... because it is so DARN GOOD! The chemistry between these characters... the never ending emotions you get... how you hate... then you dislike... then you love! How does this author do that to me every time with these characters! I love this series... the emotional impact this will have on me will be never forgotten... and we have two more books!!!

4.25 stars--SLAY: RUIN is the second instalment in Laurelin Paige’s contemporary, adult SLAY dark, erotic romance quartet focusing on businessman/billionaire media mogul Edward Fasbender, and Celia Warner. The SLAY Quartet is a spin-off from the author’s FIXED series, and falls in the timeline before Fixed Forever and a few years after Forever with You. SLAY: Ruin should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events of book one SLAY: Rivalry. NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers. Told from dual first person perspectives (Celia and Edward) SLAY: RUIN follows the building but acrimonious relationship between businessman/billionaire media mogul Edward Fasbender, and Celia Warner. Several weeks earlier Edward Fasbender propositioned Celia Warner in an effort to regain control of his life, and that of the woman with whom he would fall in love but Celia is a game player, and she is about to enter into a game of which she has no control. Left alone for weeks to months at a time, on a Caribbean island with only Edward’s staff for companionship, Celia will discover that Edward’s power and control is beyond anything she could have imagined. Edward’s primary directive is to break the woman he married, and by breaking Celia, Edward will gain domination and command of her body and soul. What ensues is the tempestuous relationship, and sexually charged romance between Edward and Celia, and the potential fall-out as Celia reveals her past, a past that will affect Edward’s direction and intent, going forward. Celia Warner plays with people’s lives ultimately destroying those in an attempt to regain control of her life but the past cannot be fixed, and in this Celia’s desperate need to win at all costs, will cost her her own freedom when Edward Fasbender takes control of her heart and her life. SLAY: RUIN is a story of betrayal and revenge; power and control. Edward Fasbender is determined to break out story line heroine but in doing so realizes that Celia Warner is broken beyond repair. Never expecting to fall in love, Edward and Celia will come to terms in an effort to destroy someone else. The premise is intriguing and captivating; the characters are strong, resilient, broken and flawed; the romance struggles in the face of vengeance and determination but the author’s use of a certain four letter word is unnecessary and detracts from my overall reading enjoyment .

Slay: Ruin is a book I have been waiting to get my hands on since Laurelin destroyed me with her ending words in Slay: Rivalry. Ruin is book two in the Slay Quartet and it’s exactly what Edward is out to do to Celia. But will he succeed? Or will she push back and be the hardcore no feeling bit** we are use too? This book was a bit slower than the first one, but what kept me reading and wanting more was Celia. My heart hurt for her throughout this story. You felt her utter despair and loneliness at times. She gets what she wants from Edward, the physical connection, but at what cost is it to her? Edward comes across as evil and uncaring, but he’s going for the checkmate in the game. He’s out to destroy Celia and her family, but yet she’s getting under his skin. Maybe there is more to his endgame than he thought. Edward uses “his sessions” to break down the walls that Celia keeps building up brick after brick. He’s bringing her closer and yet the lines are starting to blur for both of them. Is he seeing the true Celia or is it all a mask she wears? Has his game decided to take a different direction? Is Celia seeing that her life is worth more than she thought? Sex is a tool they both use on one another and there are so very steamy and yummy scenes. It was also enjoyable to see how their feelings were changing throughout the course of the book. Both crave control and Edward seems to have the upper hand most of the time or does he? Questions are answered and secrets are exposed. Things are just beginning and it’s going to be a thrill ride from here. Celia and Edward are taking those down who have destroyed them, but will it be enough? Will getting the answers be the reward or will it ruin them both? Ruin was Edwards way of taking Celia down, but maybe Celia in the end ruins Edward. She sure is becoming someone I didn’t think I would like let alone love. She’s a broken woman that needs acceptance and craves love, but has been scarred from her past. I’m excited too see where Laurelin is going with book three Revenge. I have some ideas and I can’t wait!!

Ruin by Laurelin Paige was a slow burn for me. I wanted to know all the why's and what's right away. But Laurelin will draw the story line out. Just how Edward captivates Celia, keeping the anticipation at an all time high! I flipping loved it all! I could not put this book down. You finally see the true Celia for who she is and what breaks her. Its not what you will think! When I first started to read the Slay Quartet, I saw red every time Celia appeared. Now, well she kind of broke my heart. I cannot wait for the next book in this series because I need MORE!!

I am totally speechless, in a good way though. This book was amazing. You get so many sides in this book. Oh my for Edward. He was starting to make me mad but I learned to love him. I hated Celia at first but I have grown to love her as well. I was mad with her for the way Edward was being towards her. Powerful man versus a woman who is use to of getting her way all the time. Who do you think is going to win the battle? Definitely learn a lot from these two throughout this book. A fantastic read and can't wait for the next book. Highly, highly recommend reading this book/series. I need to know what happens next. This book keeps you on your toes. You are trying to guess what happens next and I was totally mind blown. Another awesome read, Laurelin Paige.

Y'all! I am so in love with the Slay Quartet! Ruin was even better then Rivarly. Each installment seems to drag me in a little more deeper. As soon as I started this book I knew I couldn't put it down. I devoured it in a matter of days! I just had to know what was going to happen next. The roller coaster of emotions that hit you this book make for a angst feeled ride. Ruin boarders on the edge of dark romance and I love it. The danger. The thrill. The chase. All of it makes this story sinfully beautiful. The Slay Quartet is well on it's way to becoming one of Laurelin Paige's best work yet! I am obsessed with Cecila and Edward. They are not your usual couple and it's so refreshing. Everything about them is unconventional and alluring. Their constant push and pull captivates you. They are this perfect storm that your waiting to hit. I am dying to know where these two are going to take me next in Revenge. I feeling Edward and Cecila are going to be one of my favorite couples to date! Cecila truly blew me away this book. I never really hated her character like I should have. I've always secretly hoped she would get her own books and Ruin showed me exactly why. Cecila's character become the dragon this book and she was fierce. I admired her strength and growth this book. She peeled back her layers and I admired her vulnerability. My heart hurt for her many times, but each time she kept her head up and overcome. I am excited to see what side of her we will get next! Edward is will on his way to ruining me. I could not get enough of his character. There's something about the bad boys that make you fall the hardest. I loved every dangerous, possessive, and calculating part of him. He's always 3 steps ahead and one step closer to your heart. A male character has never kept me on my toes as much as Edward. He truly is a Alpha you love to hate. I either wanted to slap him, or melt into a puddle of swoons at his feet. Edward is a mountain of layers I can't wait to keep discovering. *5 STARS* Well earned for another hauntingly explosive installment to the Slay Quartet. The wait for the next book is going to kill me. I. NEED. MORE. I can not recommend Slay enough. If you haven't one clicked it, your truly missing out!

Continuation of Celia and Edward’s rocky relationship. I love how the characters continue to develop and grow. Celia’s motivation and behavior is explained. The fact that these characters who are unlikeable are portrayed in a way to make you like them and even root for them is a testament to the master storytelling. The series must be read in order. Can’t wait for the next installment!!

Whaaaaaaaaat?!?!?! It's a little scary how Ms. Paige has managed to turn my hate for Celia into so many emotions. There is still a little disgust at everything she has done in her past, but there is also pity, not only for how Edward treats her, but what she has gone through in her past. There is some admiration for how she is handling everything, and might I even say I'm growing to like the person she's becoming?! After the cliffhanger the first book of this quartet brought, I had no idea what to expect from Ruin. I'm so glad I went into it with an open mind, as there were so many revelations brought to light, I came away with an appreciation for everyone in the book. I don't want to give anything away, just know this quartet will be your new obsession!

"You'll get out of here alive. As soon as you're broken down. And when that truly happens, there's no way you'd turn me in to anyone." "Oh, really?" " You seem not to understand what you'll become when you're broken down." "What's that?" "Mine." Oh. My. God. I cannot believe where this story is headed!! I usually write longer reviews than I'm going to here. But, I'm afraid I'll give too much away if I don't keep this brief!!! Let's just say that the tables are turning, and secrets revealed might just even the playing field and create a common goal. Edward and Celia are both masters at the games they've played. But neither of them expected the rules to change. Who will forfeit first? Is the game worth playing, if even the victor loses everything? I know this is super vague, but you just have to read it!! I've hated Celia and I've hated Edward. But, now? I think I'm falling in love with both of them!! You definitely have to read this series!!

Slay: Ruin is a bewitching and mouth-watering must read! After that hellacious cliffhanger we were all forced to endure from book one, we finally find out what happens next with these two wicked characters. To say I wasn’t prepared…*pfft*, truest understatement of the year. But wait…you NEED to read book one first before reading this book. If that wasn’t obvious by now, then this is me telling you. So, you’ve been warned… Slay: Ruin starts right where Slay: Rivalry ends. Literally. (Thank God.) The author wastes no time getting right into the thick of things between Celia and Edward. As much as we were all tortured with that cliffhanger, we were put out of our misery right away. But oh, the author does find other methods in which to torture us as the book progresses. Hell bent on “breaking down” Celia, Edward leaves her stranded on his private island after their honeymoon, only returning a handful of times. If that doesn’t reek of CONTROL, then I don’t know what does. Throughout the story, we’re given full access to Celia and how she handled her “imprisonment”, with only a few, very brief insights into the mind of Edward. The progression of the plot is an erotic mix of mind games, domination, and discipline. But above all of that, truth and honesty. Multiple times throughout the story, I had a very strong dislike for Edward. I wanted to hate him, truly I did. But there was just something about him, something working in his mind that we hadn’t seen yet, that piqued my curiosity. He’s such an enigma of a man that even Celia was blindsided more than once. And Celia!....Gah, I didn’t know I would ever have a compassionate or supportive bone in my body when it came to her. The internal pain, misfortune, and insecurities she’s carried with her is truly shocking, and explains WHY she is the way she is. And as more of Celia’s truths become revealed, you ultimately see why Edward is so determined to break her. I could not put this book down. I thought I knew where this story was headed, but I had NO IDEA! Slay: Ruin doesn’t necessarily end on a cliffhanger (unlike book one), but it does leave the story open to an array of possibilities and interpretations…along with a ton of questions. But most importantly, there’s still the chilling reminder of that shocking cliffhanger from book one…was Edward serious? Or did their newly formed connection make him have a change of heart? I seriously cannot wait for Slay: Revenge. I have an idea, but just like the first two books, I am in no way going to be prepared for what’s in store with these two characters. I’m on the edge of my seat with anticipation!

This is the second book, so please read book one first. It starts right where the first one left, Slay had an ending that had me on edge until I got Ruin, and it just kept getting better and better, I love the angst and I love how this characters Celia and Edward interact, I am ruined now I need the next one like yesterday, this is so good. A must read top list for sure.

Donovan has always been my favorite, but man... I knew Edward wasn’t going to just ruin Celia but me as well. I also had no idea how wonderful it would be. This book was everything! Everything I knew I wanted and so much more. I found myself surprised so much and had no idea where she was taking me. Which was frustrating and delightfully refreshing all mixed into one. Laurelin’s words and worlds aren’t like any others out there. These characters will bury themselves into your soul and will stick with you well after the story ends. I’m already desperate for book 3!

WOW They say not to judge a book by its cover. Truer words have never been spoken when thinking of Celia. When we first met her she was a witch. Her games she played with peoples lives were just plain cruel. How could a person do that to someone else. Ruin allows us to know why she is the way she is. Without giving any spoilers away but to say it is no wonder she is the way she is. I went from hating her to understanding her. I'm not saying what she did with her games was the right thing to do but I can understand why. She has always felt like nothing now that she is married to Edward he is breaking her. At first I thought that was a bad thing now I am not so sure. I didn't know how much better their story could become from reading the first and its awesome ending with Edward telling Celia that he was going to kill her but OMG did it get better. Every word written with have you hanging on until the end. Bring on Book 3.

This book ruined me in the best way possible! 5 stars The beginning/introduction of this book is a revelation! Edward is so cagey, & it is both fascinating as it is frustrating to both Celia and me! By the end of the book, Edward made me swoon which I didn’t think would be possible! The unraveling and ruination of Celia by Edward is mesmerizing to read, and I felt for her so much her. Her past and how she saw herself made me cry several times. Celia’s journey in this book was exciting to read, and I can’t wait to read more about her in the next book. The revealing of both Edward and Celia’s past/secrets was intense and enthralling to read. Their chemistry and love story was just as enthralling to read. This book ruined me in the best way, because I was captured by Celia and Edward’s story and felt every emotion along with them. I highly recommend this brilliant book and series! I received a copy of this ebook from Candi Kane PR for my honest review.

There is so much to say about this book and I'm not sure if I know how to say it. The author completely threw me off with Edwards declaration at the end of book one. I was sure it was just a bluff. Something to say to throw Celia off at the time. Then we get some of Edwards POV in this book and I'm completely shocked at what was revealed. I really struggled with Edwards revelation. I think I had in my head a different scenario and I was suddenly afraid for what I was about to read. It was threatening my fairytale I had imaged in this couple. I get that it's funny to say that considering Celia is the heroine. We finally got an answer to explain why Edward was so passionate about his pursuit of Celia. And his sister's anger. I really didn't understand that. I had so many scenarios running in my head. After hearing their story...I got it. We also got to see why Celia became a person that not even she liked. I liked learning that. She was such a hated character in The Fixed series that I can say that I understand her now. Edward mentions that Celia is like an onion with so many layers to peel back and he was right. It can also be used for Edward as well. There are so many layers to him as well. This couple is very complex. While I wanted to jump to the happily every after of this couple, there is so many layers between this couple that have to be peeled back first. It's quite honestly fascinating. I may not like some of it and even hate some of the actions, but I've learned that makes me fall so much harder for a story and enjoy the sweet ending I know will eventually come. I do feel like I can breathe easy now. I guess we'll find out how true that is in the next installment.

Edward Fasbender was a master manipulator and Celia Werner was the sacrificial lamb who succumbed to his charm and deviousness. It was hard to know where to start when describing the intricacies of the next stage of their relationship. Edward forced Celia to become a prisoner on his island and set out to delve deep into her mind to find out all of her secrets. He was controlling and demanding, and put his wants and desires first. Celia may have been the Queen of “The Game” with Hudson, but Edward played “The Game” better than they did, and Celia never saw it coming. Edward isolated her and became more powerful than ever. He already knew all of Celia’s weaknesses and used them to his advantage. Celia, with all of her polish and education, became a naive and fragile person under Edward’s control. Her confidence disappeared and he left her lonely and fearful. She depended on him for everything and existed in a world where she could not escape. She was afraid if she didn’t do as he asked, Edward would take away what little love and affection he showed her. Celia could not enjoy the beautiful, tropical setting as she would have liked, because she was always afraid of what might happen next. She was haunted by demons from her past, and didn’t like being tormented by Edward in the present. What would the next sunrise bring for Celia? A brighter day or a menacing storm? The future remains to be seen.

It was supposed to be simple. An arrangement. Feelings were not supposed to get in the way. He hadn’t known that he would like her. He defiantly hadn’t planned to sleep with her. But she was persistent in her pursuit of him. And now there are feeling involved and that complicates things further, They weren’t part of the plan. How can this pair work through the new version of married life that they have found themselves in? EXPERT It had been too easy. Every obstacle on the way had been met and breached without incident. When she'd shifted, I'd shifted with her. Without effort. It had been a cakewalk. Logistically, anyway. I'd known shed be sharp and wily and fierce. I'd prepared for that. What I hadn't known was that I'd like it. Like her. Did I like her? it was hard to accept if I did, but I couldn't deny there was something there.

Oooooo this is the continuing story of Celia and Edward. After the cliffhanger of Slay 1, I was on tenterhooks to see what would happen next! Celia was a character that I loved to loathe, but know Ms. Paige has done something truly amazing, she is changing the way I think about a character. This story delves more into Celia's past, her psyche, her soul.  Edward truly knows how to break her down.   I started to empathize with Celia, I could understand why she became the woman she was when she met Edward. Edward is slowly coming around.  As his feelings for Celia change, so does his plans and the repercussions of that will be felt throughout the story. You still get the push and pull of the tumultuous relationship between Edward and Celia, but now you get to see how their relationship is evolving and growing.  With the alternate POV's it really brings more understanding into Edward and Celia. I loved how this part of the story ended.  But now I cannot wait for the next installment!

Wow, what an intoxicating continuation to Edward and Celia's emotional and provocative story! I was desperate for more after the jaw dropping ending in the first book Rivalry, and Ruin did not disappoint! The power games continue between Edward and Celia. Edward seems to have the upper hand as he holds her on his terms. Celia has a love/hate relationship with what is happening between her and Edward and so do I. It is hard to understand Edwards motives, and actions at times and Celia can't forget the threat to her life! But Celia seems to be getting past his carefully constructed walls and plans. While Edward is also making Celia see a different side to herself, one that is worthy of forgiveness, respect, and love. Their strategic games continue to captivate and seduce me. The heart-pounding revelations, from both their pasts, break my heart, but also helps me to understand them just a little bit more. The attraction and chemistry between Edward and Celia is palpable and leaps right off the page! I love the direction Paige takes them, and us. It is dark, and twisty, and completely riveting! Paige has an amazing ability to make us feel and empathize with the many facets to Edward and Celia. I am so invested in what happens to them next and I can't wait to find out in the third book, Revenge!

Elena Wolfe and Shane East's performance is so deep and intense, that left my emotions raw and my mind reeling. Besides, the panty-melting British accent is to swoon over it. In addition, their pleasant sounding voices, makes of this audiobook a delightful listening experience. It was just utterly brilliant how they brought this story to life. I just wish, Shane East dialogue had been a bit longer. However, lets pray that he gets a much longer dialogue and chapters in future installments. If you haven't start this mind-blowing series, take my humble advice and don't waste more time. Grab your copy today!! What would you be getting out of this: A passionate story Hot sex Suspense Mystery Lies, Secrets, but above all, a British alpha-male who is to die for. (Poor Celia, because this may become real) I got the chance to read this extraordinary installment, and let me tell you that Edward and Celia's story is full of anguish, passion, secrets, lies, deception, lust, and much more. Is no denying the electric attraction between Edward and Celia. There'll be a revelation about Celia's tortured past that you won't see coming and is going to leave you reeling and speechless. All in all, this has been such an amazing, skillful, gripping, intense, intriguing, and captivating listen/read!
