Bait and switch pure and simple. This was to have been the edition with additional content by Jane Smiley. It was supposed to have maps and be a complete edition. NONE OF THIS IS TRUE. I wish I had saved my money for the real book the promised.

The stories in this collection are great, but if you can, find them in another edition. This particular translation is a bit old, so the language may not be particularly comfortable for many young readers. Also, while the translation does contain explanatory notes, there is no convinient link from text to not page. Even the table of contents lacked links.

Gives one a taste of what the Vikings were really like. There was a lot of what you would expect from Vikings like battles and killing. Was a bit hard to read but really interesting.

I like the way the book is written in the way the words were spoken. I don't know how accurate the information is as it is a translation from ancient text but I beleive it does give you a clue into the every day lives of the ancient Vikings. If that is of interest then you would enjoy this book.

When I bought this book I was looking for Norse sagas. It was great to find so many in one volume. A bit thick but when you have that much between 2 covers, it will be thick. I would recommend this to anyone with the same interests.

The Sagas of Icelanders is a great book of narrative stories and heroic poems. Lots of Viking heroes. For an exmple, the Erik The Red saga narrates the Viking hero who discovered Iceland. This book blends into triumphs and tragedies. Awesome book!
