About the Author

Michelle M. Pillow, New York Times & USA TODAY Bestselling Author

Michelle loves to travel and try new things, whether it's a paranormal investigation of an old Vaudeville Theatre or climbing Mayan temples in Belize. She's addicted to movies and used to drive her mother crazy while quoting random scenes with her brother. Though it has yet to happen, her dream is to be a zombie in a horror movie. For the most part she can be found wearing pajama pants and drinking coffee. There may or may not be dancing. It’s all part of the creative process.

I really liked this book. I was sucked in and carried away to a different world for a awhile. I did a lot of snickering as well as - Oh no you didn't - as the characters were brought to life in this wonderful book. If you like adventure with twists as well as a little humor, you will love this book. I place this in the must read category.

I started this book and then put it down. Don't know why but I wasn't into it. Nevertheless, I picked it back up and I'm sure glad I did. The story was very good. You would think with the title "Savage King", the king in the story would be just that-savage. But King Kirill is not. His father ("King Attor"), who dies early in the story, was savage & ruthless but Kirill is nothing like his father. However, Kirill has to live in the footsteps of his father, fighting to prove he is nothing like his father and his own internal battle of proving he is a better man than his father. Agent Ulyssa Payne is the main character in the story but she really is overshadowed by King Kirill. She is bitchy, and feisty but it is King Kirill that shows her she is truly more than her agent status. I never expected to do a review of erotica but I really like the story and the characters. It's not just steamy sex!

i loved Ulyssa's character once she was being herself and how she handled things with the Var. Was a great read with a intriguing storyline and seeing things from the Var point of view.

This was my second read of The Savage King by Michelle Pillow and I found myself enjoying it at a whole new level. This is the first of the Lords of The Var series which is an great spinoff of the amazing  Dragon Lords Series.   The Var Series introduces many new characters to enjoy as well and of course there are charismatic, all too sexy, gorgeous alpha princes to welcome us. The Var are cat shifters, sharing the planet with The Draig (Dragon Shifters), with whom they are trying to find peace after years of conflicts. Most of the escalations in conflicts were instigated by the Var King Attor. Besides warring with the Draig, Attor , whose story is revealed in another book, has sworn off traditional manogomy. He has built a huge harem and has instilled his strong beliefs in his four sons. Ulyssa is an HIA agent and has been undercover since book one, posing as Gena on the Galaxy Brides ship. Her mission being accomplished she has discarded her disguise and awaits pick up by her agency. While waiting she's discovered by Attor and thrown into his harem. Fortunately for her Attor meets his end before he returns to the palace.  Upon attempting escape Ulyssa runs into a man who is so handsome, strong, full of sexy hotness that she allows herself to be seduced. (Lots of delicious steamy love making throughout the book). So the adventure, romance, excitement, intrigue, and fun begins and elevates throughout the book. Ulyssa is a great heroine, I loved her ability to play the obnoxious over the top Gena in the other books and turns out to be a very formidable kickass secret agent. She has a confident strong personality and is very comfortable with her sexuality. Kirill is very impressed and intrigued  with Ulyssa and finds he cannot fight his strong need to make her his. He's in a tough position, he has to take the throne and lead his people. He desperately wants to be a strong king  but differs from his father in many ways, most importantly he craves a long overdue peace with the Draig. Kirill tugged at my heartstrings. He is headstrong and , yet he has a more sensitive side and a great sense of fairness. Kirill and Ulyssa make a wonderful couple, I became entranced in their story and loved how it grew despite all the miscommunications and misconceptions that accompany any good scifi adventure romantica story.  The plot moves at a good even pace, you won't want to put the book down for long. With each new book added to the series I am continually amazed how the people, places, and story lines are all connected and cleverly woven together. This story in particular was very moving at times, really pulling at my heart strings, a HEA very well earned. Five stars of Awesome, so glad there are lots of Var Princes who have stories just waiting to be read as soon as I am finished with this review.   Reading this amazing series in order is highly suggested for optimal enjoyment.  I Love Michelle Pillow, her talent as an author is off the chart. This series is among her best, so get comfortable, have a cold drink ready to cool you down, and enjoy this amazing journey.a

This is the first book in the companion series to the Dragon Lords. This time we are getting the side of the story from the Var.  Ulyssa Payne is an agent on a mission. She must make sure the Medical Mafia leader doesn't leave the planet of Quirlixen. When his daughter kills him (see Perfect Prince), Lyssa finds out she is stuck on the planet for three months until someone from the Agency is able to get there to pick her up. She isn't happy that it's going to take so long but sets up camp in the forest. Little does she know she won't be there very long. King Attor finds her and takes her back to the Var palace to his harem. The king dies in battle and she is forgotten about.  Kirill is the eldest son of King Attor. He takes the throne once his father dies and decides to give all the women in the harem a choice of becoming life-mates with one of the soldiers or returning to where they came from. He runs into Ulyssa as she is trying to escape and becomes obsessed with her. He just can't let her go. They become lovers since she is only on the planet temporarily and he is trying to learn how to be a king.  Lyssa doesn't want to belong to any man. She knows she is stuck on the planet until her ride arrives. Kirill makes a deal with her...stay with him as his mistress in the palace instead of camping in the forest.  Kirill enjoys keeping Ulyssa around. He ends up life-mating with her without knowing he had. He now has to figure out how to keep her in his life.  I really enjoyed the first book in this series. It is so great to be able to read the other side of the story. I loved to read about Lyssa and Kirill. She is such and independent woman. Kirill is still trying to figure out his life now that he is king. It's great to see them fall in love. Another great read. I am looking forward to the continuation of this series.

Ulyssa is a government agent sent to the planet Qurilixen to stop the use of biological weapons. However readers of the previous Dragon Lord books will recognise her more as the vapid Gena from the brides ship - WHO KNEW!!! The threat is over before she really got a chance to complete her mission and now she is stranded waiting for her transport home and on  to her next mission. Found near her campsite by King Attor, she is kidnapped and dumped in the Var kings harem.  When he is killed, his son Kirill becomes king. Kirill comes upon Ulyssa when she tries to flee the palace and gets lost. There is an instant heat between them but she makes it clear that she plans to leave him when her spacecraft arrives. Will she change this princes mind about being attached to a single female? Can Kirril get the thorny female to admit she cares for him? I was not a fan of Kirill and Ulyssa to begin with, it took me a while to warm up to them. That may because having read all the Dragon Lord books I was a bit biased against the Var. But they are also quite emotionally stunted individuals and prickly characters are always so hard to engage with. However, I managed to get them in the end and you can see where their isolationist tendencies root from. Ulyssa is rash, outspoken and easily takes offence and ends up punishing not only Kirill but herself. Not exactly the actions of a  totally hard hearted unemotional woman!  Hoping to get more involved with the Var princes are the series unfolds.

Same planet, very different shifter people. This series continues the saga of two races on the edge of war. Neither race trusts the other and history has made that changing unlikely. Different from the dragon shifters, the cat shifters are taught that love is not a part of their culture. The royal family does not commit to their women, they have multiple partners with no commitment. When agent Ulyssa is stranded on the planet, her original assignment completed by the death of the focus individual she can't be picked up for three months. She is kidnapped by the father king who also dies in a battle he created, leaving her in the royal harem under the control of the new king and son of her kidnapper. Neither Kirill or Lyssa have any example of how to feel or love another and label their feelings as only lust and sex. Watch them battle their feelings against fears of failing the expectation of their positions, and rejection. It takes a catastrophic situation to force them to reevaluate. Will they remain stubborn and ignore what could be wonderful? The end is very emotional showing feelings they have tried to hide. I found the conflict very credible and enjoy seeing another side of the "enemy" Var with the changing new regime. I look forward to the continued series and watching the other princes "fall". I was provided an ARC for an honest review.
