Overview

First impressions can be most deceiving!

Under the tutelage of her strict father, then that of an equally strict husband twice her age, Nessa, Lady Haughton, has been trained all her life to be a model of English propriety and virtue. But beneath the inexperienced young widow's oh-so-prim exterior, she craves a taste of the wickedness she has always been denied. Now that she is finally free, she intends to satisfy that craving!

Notorious rakehell and war hero Jack Ashecroft finds himself unexpectedly elevated to Marquis of Foxhaven. But to claim the fortune that goes with the title, Jack must renounce his wild ways and establish himself as a respectable member of Society. The surest, quickest path, he is certain, will be to find and wed a woman beyond reproach--if one will have him.

When Jack and Nessa meet, each thinks the other is exactly the ticket to the changes they are seeking. Sparks will fly when they discover each other's true goals--especially if it's already too late to turn back!

A sparkling prequel to The Saint of Seven Dials series.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Womanizer Jack Ashecroft is stunned to learn he has become then new Marquis of Foxhaven... Unwelcome in most homes,[his] surest course to redemption lies in marrying a woman with an impeccable reputation... What Jack doesn't know is that Nessa is actually sick of her prim and proper lifestyle and is itching to let loose. Soon hero and heroine lock horns in an embrace that blossoms into heated passion. In her newest Regency, Hiatt handles the ensuing story beautifully: it is fast, witty and fun.
Romantic Times - Kathe Robin
Regency afficionadoes will find this a real gem, as witty and clever as any traditional Regency in which two intriguing characters square off in a mutual marriage of convenience...Brenda Hiatt beautifully captures the era as we watche Jack and Nessa play by the rules of society while making a few of their own. She fills the pages with historical details, from the ambiance of the ton, to masquerades, to missions in France. SENSUAL.

I liked the characters well enough. They had great development. I just thought the story was a little boring. There was potential for nail biting drama, but it never happened. The conflicts that arose were always easily resolved and anticlimactic. I thought the first Saints book was better than this prequel. OK for a free read.

Great Read! I enjoyed this book. The author drew me into the story. It had romance, intrigue, and adventure. I would have loved to feel what the characters were feeling instead of just reading it about it.
